Always an unstoppable force for uniqueness amid a sea of generic swill, OPETH has been setting the rulebook ablaze, and ploughing a uniquely progressive and exploratory furrow for over 25 years now. Neither conforming nor exhibiting any desire to be restricted to a single genre, OPETH, quite simply, has a time honored tradition of blowing our minds with both class and forward thinking. All these years later, nothing and everything has changed once again with their most recent album, Sorceress.
Sorceress was released in September 2016. For the band's first effort for Nuclear Blast via OPETH's imprint label Moderbolaget Records, the group returned to Rockfield Studios in Wales, also home to pivotal releases from QUEEN, RUSH and JUDAS PRIEST, where the Swedes had tracked Pale Communion in 2014 with Tom Dalgety.
This performance sponsored by: Leather jackets Inc.
True rockstars for sure :>
Freezing...
😭😭😭
That day was cold as fuck! I was at the concert
I guess Christmas sweaters and fluffy scarves just weren't metal enough...
We should be thankful of being alive on a time where Opeth is an active band. 😀
Svet Kant so true
I am.
I am thankful I was able to see them every tour from 2000 through 2010. Not a the biggest fan of the newer style that has 0 death elements to it. Though the sorceress song is good. Akkerfedlt has the best growl in death to me.
5retsam agreed on the growls comment. And is great they take the courage and time to explore new stuff. That's how music evolves, by people taking risks.
Svet Kant glad they explore new stuff. More power to them. Much respect, it is not for me though. Guess I am old. I was a teenager in Florida in the late 80s and early 90s. Death metal was a big deal for me when I was younger. I really liked what the Swedish brought the music From entombed's left hand path to later, what Akkerfedlt and Swano brought to death metal, and it felt like a logical progression to the music. Pun intended, I guess. Just me though. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
Whatever you had given the sound engineer, keep feeding him that. Holy crap what an amazing sound.
Very good mix, but apparently I hear the live sound for the audience was horrifyingly bad.

and while wearing a leather jacket :)
born too late to explore earth
born too early to explore space
but born just in time to experience OPETH
too late to explore earth? there has literally never been a better time to do that in history

@@j.f.bastian7118 i think he was using the poetic freedom
kada bro, been opeth fan for last 7 years, always great. we will meet in nepal and have a beer and discuss these genius minds.
@@aghadmtl too late to understand the point
Sounds better than the album.
sounds like metal,, I like it
my same thought
They've gotten better since they recorded this. They get better with each passing day, for they're Opeth.
Because the album is a pile of shit. Metal Archives' reviews and overall score of just 65% do it fair justice.
@@soullessSiIence no it isn't, i know opeth have left death metal, but i like the direction that they took. And one thing, once the vocalist cant growl, you just gotta have to replace it right?, while mikael is the main writter of the band.
Holy shit, Fred's backing vocals are awesome.
Per Wiberg was a monster in backing vocals too
Same thought.
you ain't kidding. sonofabitch!
Akesson is so underrated. I absolutely love his vocals and solos.
Joakim is a quite good singer too.
And it sound better then any other live recording so far. very good mix..
Thats because it was edited in post, this is not a live mix.
happy they did in that case. thanks for info :)
Lamentations was incredible too.
cant wait until Gojira unveil their live footage from the same show!
Opeth are still one of the most relevant prog-metal bands in existence.
Couldn't agree more
I think you can drop "prog metal" from your sentence as they are one of the most relevant bands in existence in terms of music as a whole as far as I'm concerned.
@@dialectik: Very hard to argue with your point.
BLACKMYRE but for the sake of arguing
Let's Argue
Jibraeel Danish : So which bands are better than Opeth??
What a pristine live mix!
Agreed, fantastic mix, fantastic band.
Last time i saw them live they sounded exactly like this, amazing live band.
Opeth deserves the best sound techs
Incredible sound.
Very true, I read somewhere they had rough winds during that show. So happy with the results and buying it when it comes out
How in the world is Mikael's voice so amazing!? It is impossible. Proof of Lizard People
Bruh
Whoever mixed this, I want your babies.
That 'chug' at 1:15 is awesome.
hrothgar64 saw them live awhile back & they opened with this song. The keyboards kinda threw me off but that chug was it. The whole place went berserk.
I never clicked that fast in my entire lifetime
same
been waiting for this since the day after the show
With that low A and the magical sound of this live recording, I'm getting huge Mastodon vibes out if this! 😁😁
Especially the opening riff, just " chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug"
So simple, yet very massive and crushing! 🤘🤘
I wonder what the harsh vocals will sound like, by the way this live DVD has hell of a sound/mix, congratulations...
Well now you know
05:31 Axe's death metal roots coming out. My favourite drummer
They are so damn good live it's unbelievable
best band going
The lighting + THAT RIFF at 1:15 - 1:27 gives me insane goosebumps.
That "chug". You know you're in for a treat!
How cold must it be that Axe needs to play with a jacket on?
it was raining and very windy after gojira that particular evening. I thought Michael would be bummed and never release this show. must be a killer!!
it was cold as shit man and very windy
I wanted them to turn back on Gojira's flames during Opeth's set.
It was freezing! I hope they leave Mike's banter in about it - it was hilarious.
Mike: "You never see Jon Bon Jovi freeze his *** off in live shows"
Crowd: "But you're not Jon Bon Jovi. You're better."
Mike: "Yeah. I'm not him. The paycheck shows that too".
I'm butchering it. But it was hilarious live.
This song mesmerizes me. Surely it's not called "Sorceress" for nothing. The drummer is fantastic. And that Sabian sound... the gold standard of cymbals in my opinion.
this riff is the riffiest of riffs, to ever riff. next to Into the Void by Sabbath
Mikael LOVES to play this riff, just look at his faces at 1:30 and 2:14 ... LOL 😈
This was such an amazing experience. Can't wait to relive this portion of the night. Now if only Gojira released a Red Rocks recording. It was their 1,000th show and it was epic
Gojira was so much better that night.
I was there..... Man gojira slayed that night
Super jelly 😩
They are. TODAY!
I bet you creamed your pants when you saw they released their Red Rocks performance🤣
Mikael hitting those low notes like at 3:28! Sounds insanely good!
This is 100% better than the studio version. What an amazing sound mix and venue
I can only imagine how it sounded in the amphitheater with that echoing off the rocks...there must have been a very nice sweet spot in there...
It was perfection. Opeth, Devin Townsend, Gojira, all incredible at the best venue on Earth!
I've never found myself getting too passionate about how music is mixed, but my god this mix is perfection. SO much better than the actual album version, which was already pretty good.
Playing drums in a leather jacket??> SAVAGE!
Check out Buddy Rich. He plays drums in a suit. 😉
@@juricagalekovic937 nah i like the leather jacket better
My 20 month old daughter absolutely loves this
Opeth! You are driving force of my life. You're the reason why i get outta bed everyday. And i beleive to be most fortunate person on planet to perceive your music the way its supposed to be and the fact that how you are way more than a band or music group.
#OpethForever
Abhishek Chaubey Opeth lover from India?? I feel the same as u do bro
Apple Peel yes. I am from India. Cheers mate!
Abhishek Chaubey: Good to see there are fans in India who love "Opeth". They have played in India once and I feel absolutely gutted that I couldn't make it to see 'em perform live. Per Weiberg was the keyboard player at the time. I'm also a serious collector and own every record they have released since their inception back in 1995!
Sameer Sharma whosoever has been observing music from a different perspective would eventually find Opeth as something different. Opeth are as inclusive as the music itself. I learnt hindustani/carnatic classical back in school days and trust me Opeth are closest counterpart to that sound.
True, let’s just hope they don’t break up the band for awhile, bro!
I'm so glad autoplay took me here. I was looking for Queens of the Stone Age and VOLA and youtube brought me this band. Holy Cow =O
Welcome
Lost In Vegas got me here...
👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
The Angry Dudeist likewise!🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'd LOVE to know what he's saying - to himself - @5:46 . ..
Amazing 🎶
Lots of love for you OPETH
From NEPAL
You are pretty famous here and I request you to come here once☺
🤩
Just on a God's level. Lord Shiva will jam with opeth if he wishes to come down.
This sounds so much better live than it does on the album.
I think this is the problem with the later albums; they are best appreciated live, whereas their most popular albums are best appreciated listening to the recording through headphones.
Any song from Damnation sounds so fucking beautiful live though
The Elephant in the Room Agree!
with that you can say they are not studio musicians, the work of the editor, mixer and master engineer must be a piece of cake, cause they dont have to fix nothing, maybe they compose the songs to be meant play perfectly live
This is definitely mixed in post. No live sound is like this straight through to the recording.
Hey...... its just that they trig the drum live which they dont for studio albums ... going for a more natural almost seventies sound But i agree this sound much better .... Im a sound engineer myself and theres so much i could say about that ( those kind of decisions )
Mikael Akerfeldt..one of my favourite guitar players of all times..greetings from KK Sabah,Malaysia🇲🇾🤘🏼🇲🇾
Martin Mendez is just awesome, underrated in my opinion.
thats axl tho
@@alexobregonbauluz3304 hehe he's referring to the bass player :)

Mendez is Bass, Lopez was Drums...
I like his sideways headbanging. I've subconciously caught myself doing it at shows
😂
I seldom buy live albums but this one, I'm definitely buying it.
One of the few bands that are actually better live than in the studio.
Man Axe is now my favorite drummer. No wonder Mikael wanted him.
Sounds amazing
I feel myself superior to anyone beside me while listening to Opeth
ChagChagChagChag ChagachagaChagChagChag and i worship eeevil
Finally, I get to relive this Epic show in pristine surround sound HD, take my money!
Play drums in a leather jacket, or don't play at all.
Love old Opeth, but I gotta admit, this is pretty good!
sounds incredible, Mike's voice is on a whole different level now
What amazing notification this morning.. ✌
Incredible performance and sound quality.
This looks beautiful. Just wished the set was bigger like the Robert Royal Hall one.
Royal Albert Hall...
I ALWAYS make this mistake xD
lol *Robert Royal Hall* dude thanks for that.
It’s a short set because Gojira and Devin Townsend played full sets before they even came on. By the time Opeth got on it was pretty late, and cold as shit haha
See you in Rome guys. Can't wait.
I love how they all wear the same Nick Jonas leather jackets
No way bro Nick Jonas is a technical death nu jazz hard bop fusion god.......Mikael doesn't even know the basics of music theory
Mookie Yomu you actually thought I was saying that in the slightest of seriousness
Agnaye Ochani lol
They must have seen Stevie Terryberry's video on how to play like Jonas

an example of how an opeth song can sound aggressive without gutturals... What a great song!
Sick drumming!! Wow!!
Nigel Fortune axenrot is inhuman
This is pure high quality
I think they should cover Emerson Lake and Palmer... i think it would sound incredible.
What a drummer... damn...
Omg, this riffs are insane 😳😳😳
The only band makes live sound better than studio release
Having seen Steven Wilson live 3 times, I must say he belongs in that category too.
yeah both of them super talented
NostrumTV You don't listen to many bands, do you?
Your kind of band must be some kind of justin bieber who lip sync on live
NostrumTV Damn how'd you know I was a Justin Bieber fan?!?!? You just blew my cover!
Holy fuck that mixing! Think I'll get this one!
Many years ago Live in Orlando the line up was 3( aka wake Pig ) Between the Buried and Me , Opeth , and Dream Theatre:) oh my endless obsession. killer live show.
AdrIan Douglas That sounds absolutely amazing
Honestly words were never so thought provoking and the music to me never seemed so precise and emotionally on point than any other concert I ever been to ...the entirety of the experience should have been documented on some ancient scroll and buried deep within the dessert of the middle East in hopes of being dug up and discovered by some fucking understanding!!! I might be foolish in hoping but if you really want to overcome something tyrannical
Think ...MM
I saw the same show in Cleveland OH. I was in the front row. 3 was seriously amazing, BTBAM meh (we went for drinks), Opeth OMG, Dream Theater great as always!
BlindSniperz Nah, you missed out. BTBAM is as good as the other 2 if not better. Just saw them live with Polyphia and The Contortionist. Absolutely amazing
Went to that show too at the Hard Rock. Awesome show. First time I had ever heard 3. They were really impressive as well. Didn’t care for Dream Theater’s set list but overall good concert.
By far better than the album version. the drum in the album version (sorceress) is muffled and sounding weird :(
Opeth... come to India, please!
*come back
I think opeth heard you
November 29th!
See you there
Have never understood the hate for this record. Opeths best in the new prog rock era imo. Every track is a banger. MAYH and Sorceress are my 2 fav Opeth records. Love em all though.
As the drums should sound!!
That face in 2:14! I'm a lesbian, and i want to marry mikael🤷🏼♀️
Already preordered.
The audio engineers did an absolutely fucking excellent job with this.
oh gosh thank god i hear king crimson so hard in this ... awesome !!!
i love the backing vocals
Amazing audio quality! Monstersss!!!!
i,m surprised this video was,nt banned for the nooze at about 3;30.
Huh, no Death Metal fanboys except for the one dislike, true Death Metal fans care about the music, not the vocals, and this great music, and the vocals are pristine
Adam Erik Marshall Saying that you're a "Death Metal fanboy" if you don't like this, is being a fanboy too, just saying. Just to be clear, I like this stuff, but not all people dislike it only because of not having death metal vocals.
Allan Pv I was saying that all the Death Metal fanboys tend to be more public with their biased opinions, you're allowed to not like it, but they have stupid reasons, I constantly see them saying "Another Blackwater Park", it's true
Great Music is great Music, with or without growls. :D
Svalberg is so fucking good.
Ola: will it chug? 1:15...YES!
1:30 is exactly the face I would make
Oh you lucky people in the audience....are you aware how lucky you are for being there!?! Cause I am... by watching this! So sad never seen this band live. No band like Opeth, they're majestically sublime!
I will never, ever forget this show. It was my first concert. I was blown away.
+Casey V That's amazing! Enjoy your memories... Looks like it was quite a show!
Check out the pipes on Frederick!!
These guys and Ghost are easily the heirs to the Ozzy/Maiden/Metallica stadium throne. Unbelievably good shit.
My arms, your well fitted leather jackets.
Not my comment
They only played10 songs in this show....I want moooore.
10 Opeth songs > 3 hours long.
How are you so FUCKING good?!
I remember this show, Mikael wouldn't stop talking about how cold it was XD
I was hoping they would turn Gojira's flames back on. That shit was pretty warm if you were close.
Pretty strange for someone from Sweden...
