There There blew me away. Wow is Tommy Orange a talented storyteller and writer! I am a high school teacher and we will most likely read/teach it with our juniors next year. Can't wait to share this book with students!

I agree that the plot speeds up very quickly and it's disorienting, but I think that might be intentional. What happens at the end is a very disorienting experience and I think the author wanted to make the reader feel as disoriented as all the characters did as well

I was also very impressed with There There as a debut and I'm excited to see what Orange will do next. I also agree about the ending, pacing to it was a bit jarring, and there were revelations concerning interconnected storylines that felt got washed over by the ending for the sake of being an ending. No doubt this will be a classic, I bet. I keep thinking about one scene Orange writes about one of the characters being used to watching TV while on the floor because of the possibility of gunfire coming through the window. Orange manages to blend innocence and violence in such an organic way

Yes, I knew the book would end on a cliffhanger, but I really hoped it wouldn't. I can see why from a writer's point of view, it seems like a good way of writing an ending that sticks with the reader, but it also seems like an easy out for the writer.

My library hold for this book just came in, and I’m so excited to get to it - I’m always a little wary when a book is this hyped up, but it really sounds like it lives up to all the praise. Thanks for this great review, Rincey!

I loved this book also. The confusion and fast paced disorientation at the end reminded me of the overall native experience.

Saw you review and ran down to my local book store, they didn't have the English version but still got in even though it's translated into Danish. Can't wait to read it!

I finished it late last night because I couldn’t put it down. Totally agree with your perspective. I thought the writing was absolutely amazing. (Parts reminded me of “The Grapes of Wrath,” the way it flipped back and forth between detailed characters and poetic descriptions of scenes and popular culture.) BTW, I gotta know what your T-shirt says?? 😜
