When talking about ND not knowing what A&M will do is not true.
1) Elko coached at ND before A&M
2) ND played Elko last season, & have tape playing against him as a head coach.
3) ND has played multiple times against Jay Bateman as a Defensive Coordinator (and averaged around 40ppg against him).
4) ND OC Mike Denbrock has coached against Elko, Bateman & A&M
5 ) Marcus Freeman interviewed and almost hired Klein as his OC before last season & knows his offense well.
The combo of the coaching staff + personnel is brand new, though. You can have ideas of what you might see but any time you get a coaching staff overhaul you never know how it will all come out
Couldn’t you say the same for Elko vs ND & Leonard?
Mike Denbrock led the #1 Offense in the country last year, & it’s his first year back at ND.
The combination of Denbrock & Leonard will be brand new to Elko.
That will be brand new for sure. The question I think is more about how different Leonard can be as an established older player vs having an entire defensive unit being coached differently. More variability on an entire side of the ball than just one player.
But you're definitely right that Leonard will be coached up big time and will bring his best to Kyle Field
Collin Klein said NO to Notre dame, Mike Elko knows the weaknesses of your QB and is a phenomenal mind. This game will be close, still have ND scraping by.
ND fan here. There are a lot of new pieces on both sides - new HC for A&M, new OC and QB for ND. So it's a tough game to predict, for that reason. Both teams have a lot of talent. Should be a great game.
Definitely agree! That's what makes this a top game, it will be a great tone setter for whoever wins and its not easy to predict what either team is going to look like
Agreed! From this A&M fan, we still don't know what we will see. Glad that Jimbo is gone. Elko has actually fixed the locker room. Which was horrible under Jimbo. It should be a great game.
@@gigemaggies50A&M still needs time notre dame will have better team chemistry
Ask OSU how fast of a start they got against ND last year. ND's defense is elite and is not going to lay down and let TAMU move up and down the field at will.
Not what we said was going to happen, it's what we said A&M needed to have happen if it were to do well
Good luck. ND has an elite defense. Dline,LB's and secondary all loaded. Plus one of the best DC's in the country.
ND is going to be a tough opponent for the Aggies
It came down to the wire against Duke last year....This will be Elko's most talented team ever especially at secondary(speed and length everywhere) and Dline with a returning freshman All American at Lb. Will also be Klein's most talented offense ever. Idk if he's ever even had multiple 4 stars on the field at the same time before yet still had a top 20 unit last year. It will not be walk in the park for y'all. Especially at Kyle Field.
Notre Dame has a great track record against the SEC. The only struggles they have had were against Georgia and Bama, Ya know the two teams that gave every other team in NCAA trouble.
ND has never beaten Georgia and regarding Alabama, Bear Bryant could never beat ND but lately Alabama has had ND's number. I'm an ND grad so it's not fun watching ND play Georgia and Alabama nowadays. Not fun at all!
Gents…you should have included more focus on the fact Mike coached at ND recently. And you overlooked the recent ND victory over SEC Gamecocks and they have two bowl victories over LSU. In the last two games vs Georgia the total margin of victory was 7 points for the bulldogs. Not really an SEC albatross
Genuine question, how do you think elko coaching at ND 7 seasons ago helps the Irish?
I think ND will have a very good defense this year.
It should be really good! Great test week 1
Gig'em Aggies 👍
Thx guys!
Gig'em!
Riley Leonard has also played vs Mike Elko's defense in practice daily and I'm sure he's going to give #1 OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MIKE DENBROCK? The weakness and Mike Denbrock offense will attack it often and early so if you and everyone else in SEC COUNTRY is looking at Notre Dame 2023 offense with Sam Hartman then Texas A&M will lose by 3 scores ☘️ Coach Freeman has no impact on offense for 2024 IT'S THE NEW HIRING OF OC MIKE DENBROCK AND WR COACH MIKE BROWN 🔥🔥☘️
There's loads of reasons why Notre Dame should win this game, we were mostly talking about why this game will probably be closer than most expect and how both teams have to play to win
I love that you think there is a universe where ND wins by anymore than one score or maybe 10 points
He tried to get Leonard. Leonard wanted to go to ND because the education, and because the relationship he formed with Hartman
Not doubting that, but where did you see that? I never heard any news on Leonard to a&m
Leonard had decided to go to ND before Elko was hired at A&M. He decided while both were still at Duke. Leonard has been open about this. Elko knew this & never tried because it was done already.
So technically, no, Elko never went after Leonard because he never had the chance.
Fair enough! Yeah I hadn't seen anything about the Aggies trying to get him so that's why we talked about it there
He definitely did not try we are set at quarterback😭
No he did not. He had no need to go after him. There are 3 incredible QBs at A&M and Weigman could beat out even Leonard for QB1. No reason to invite a QB controversy or put any assets into a position that is rock solid when you have to spend so much time and NIL money rebuilding after a coaching change in positions that were not so rock solid.
A&M doesn’t have a chance. Easy money. Place your bets! I know a guy who will take your action.
Tamu is going to have a very rude awakening come Saturday. Notre dame is the biggest sleeper in college football !!! Watch out.. here come the Irish ☘️
Notre Dame should be really good, don't know that I would call a top 10 ranked team that most expect to make the playoff a sleeper though
Too much talk about heat. South Bend gets plenty hot. Ben Morrison pick 6.
Not saying it doesn't get hot in South Bend, but it's different in Texas. Also, College Station sits in a bowl and collects humidity like nobody's business. No fun to play ball there until October
Nortre dame 27 A&M 17.
This seems reasonable. Still think it will be closer
Didn't I just see Notre Dame beat a SEC conference team in the bowl game vs South Carolina in Florida? ☘️
Well if the aggies play like south Carolina then yeah it's a wrap haha
A&M is 9-1 against SCAR last 10 years. I would hope A&M doesn't play like SCAR.
Disagree with Riley going to A&M if Elko wanted him. Riley was a lock to ND after ND beat Duke last season. Also, not true with games against the SEC. Beat LSU the past two times they played, and be SC in the bowl game 2 seasons ago. Outside of Bama and Georgia, ND hasnt had an issue with the SEC teams they have played recently.
The Leonard comment was more speculation than anything. Obviously staying with a coach is a factor, but not the only factor in a recruitment
