While the Conner take vs Miami is wrong, the overall assessment and prediction makes sense. ND may very well keep it close and take it in a close one. Hopefully not. Regarding the D, it’s Elko’s D, Bateman is calling it but it’ll be a joint effort
Weigman's INTs in the Miami game came off of a tipped pass by an A&M WR and a last effort hail mary. Go watch him as a true freshman light it up against Ole Miss & #5 LSU
ND Off Coord likes to move the pocket and will take some shots but he isn't totally new school. That Aggie D Line had their hands on Daniels A TON while he was breaking the pocket last yr too. * Joe, Elko said its gonna be his system when he was still in the hiring process. Wasn't Bateman a co-coordinatpr for Mack Brown & at FL also? His Army time as Coord was impressive

Going back over the games from the past 2 seasons has me concerned with Riley’s arm. Specifically overthrowing guys and throwing into double coverages. The running aspect of the rpo is going to be just fine though. Go Irish ☘️
Notre Dame has a much better run game than Duke had and a better OC. I wouldn't worry too much about Leonard's passing issues at Duke. I bring up the running game because it will create many one-on-one match-up opportunities.
As a ND fan I think A&M has more talent top to bottom. Not a big advantage but still a advantage. I think ND wins because of Riley Leonard and that Irish defense that was top 10 last year. ND wins 27-20
I think it’s a little unfair to criticize Jay Bateman too soon guys. He didn’t have anything at North Carolina. When it came to Florida he shared DC duties. They’re also a dumpster fire of a program right now with a lot of drama and plenty of players who aren’t bought it. Even if Bateman was calling the plays, it’s going to be off of Elko’s playbook which he will be very involved in. So I doubt it’s a terrible hire from A&Ms standpoint. Elko believes in his defense and from a standpoint of hiring a DC the original guys on board for A&M to bring in when they hired Elko wanted to install their defense and not the Mike Elko defense. So that’s problematic. When it came to Santucci, he only had one year at the DC position and Elko offered him to come back to A&M but it would have been for the linebacker coaching position. Elko didn’t feel with his playbook that Santucci was ready to take the big step at a bigger program with limited experience. With Bateman, Elko can install is defense and micromanage that side of the ball well. Given that, fall camp reports out of A&M were that the defense looked stellar. In fact, so much that on the final scrimmage a chunk of starters (mainly front 7) had to sit out so they could get a better feel for both sides. I think the defense will be fine for A&M.
A&M isnt gonna run between the tackles, Klein will combine pulling linemen w TE/WR in motion & the adjustments for play action n moving the pocket are already loaded
No reason to bring that up. A&M’s biggest fault being remedied? No reason to bring that up. Notre Dame’s inexperienced OL in an environment where they may not be able to hear adjustments? That’ll be fixed with scheme. *hand wave*. A&M’s secondary? Now THAT’S where we need to worry about cohesion. That can’t possibly be helped with scheme from one of the finest Defensive minds in the county who specializes in secondary. They talk about ND’s WR speed AND how they’re gonna get the ball out fast like those aren’t conflicting points. If the plays don’t have time to develop then what does the speed matter? Oh right *hand wave* “scheme”.
Expect false starts and missed assignments from the o-line. 😬 Look what happened with Bama’s o-line at Kyle Field in 2023. That Texas heat is the real deal too. Appreciated this gentleman. 🤘 Go Irish ☘️
Elko was a coach there 3 years ago. Some players on the roster were originally recruited by Elko. This isn't the same as some new coach coming in for the first time. The argument for the spread is because it's at Kyle Field and it'd be different on a neutral field. Well the shit of it is, it's not on a neutral field. Move on from that talking point. Plus, Elko coached ND's QB for two seasons. You don't think Elko knows the dude's tendencies? They're going to eat his lunch and take his milk money.
Bama had o-line issues @ATM. They were able to quick throw A&M to death. A&M has done a good job at getting better guys on the outside to engage WR’s. This is gonna be fun! 😒😂 ☘️☘️☘️
Quick throw A&M to death? What are you talking about? They lost because Burton went all out on the deep hall. Plus you’re talking about a DJ Durkin defense.
Do you all actually do any research before these podcasts. Weigman had critical turnovers against Miami. Watch the turnovers, Ainas slipped on an incut and the ball was on target but the given the slip it went to the safety behind him. The other was a last second throw up at the end of the game. Maybe watch the game and see he was getting hit on every drop back and putting the ball on target in crazy tight windows. Thats what the scouts see and why he has such high praise. I just listened to another ND podcast where they were saying Haynes King is not athletic and Riley Leonard is a much better athlete. He was the 2nd fasted guy on A&M team while he was there and a highschool all state track sprinter. To funny, how little you all do in watching the teams your about to play.
An unproven o line for Notre dame will be the question, against A&M’s front 7 which is a returning monster of a unit,, one of the best in the country… and I don’t like the maroonites chances of overall success. But they’ve lost 2 total non conference games in Kyle field in the last 16 years from what I’m seeing..
Yep, I'm aware Owens is out. But Leveon Moss is still an explosive RB. Just more 1-dimensional. EJ Smith was actually out playing all the RBs at certain points in camp Don't get me wrong, can't replace Reuben Owens explosiveness in space. But EJ is a 3-down, efficient/productive RB in both pass game and run game. And Amari Daniels is a backup workhorse
if they think the aggies are better than why did they get reranked to 20 and ND to 7. if aggies are better or even close to ND the rankings should say different
Leveon Moss was the leading rusher last year and he's the bruiser of the 2 back, Owens was smaller and faster, so he should handle the interior runs better than owns would in theory
@@nevergiveupnevergivein7655 notice I didn't call it a good gameplan, I just said he should handle it better than Owen's would. But I have heard linebacker is the weakest link of this defense so maybe it's not such a bad idea

I mean everyone is like the left of tackle of Notre Dame is going to be on an island. If you think about it they chose Knapp cause he’s quick and will keep up with the DE from the Aggies plus he’ll have help from the running backs If it was baker he would get whiffed and it would be the de vs the Rb and that’s how Knapp is the better choice. Blake isn't a ND Fan. Secondly this is the best defense he has seen. So what he was a five star? He has to prove that he can go out there a produce. The best defense he ever saw he threw two picks. Thats not a homer take that is reality
Why do people have so much faith in high school recruiting stars? It is like if you get 5 stars when you are 17 years old then you are infallible for the next 6 years.
That was a 5th year quarterback. Who was developed enough in pass protections and understanding blocking schemes who could sit in the pocket. Scourton now comes into a defensive line that is full of former 5 stars with depth and a guru def coach (head coach). It's unfair to say this is a A&M def line vs ND o line game. A&M is projected to easily win that battle. it's the opposite that is interesting. If ND's line who is expected to feast this year can and does control the game they win easily.

Again, you're saying his name wrong. It is "Wig-men" not "Whyg-man". Also go back and look at those two interceptions at Miami. Yes they were critical, but that wasn't on Conner. I know you can't watch every game when you are trying to cover the entire country, but you're just flat out wrong about his Miami performance.
we aren't wrong about his Miami performance.
Looks at stats from game. Yeah we weren't wrong. But go off
@@ruffinoandjoeshowYou’re correct about the stat line but you’re missing the context around the two interceptions when you’re talking about them.
Rain = F'ed....No Sir!!! The rain will bring the Temp down for that game a LOT! and rain effects both teams equally while if it was a clear no rain game with 107 degree temps it would hurt ND a lot more......give me a rain game down here in TX any day over the normal weather in TX in August.
“Yeah we can’t say the Elko isn’t calling the defense”.
Wishful thinking, Joe. That’s like saying Nick Saban wasn’t calling the defense at Alabama.
As a ND fan I think A&M has more talent top to bottom. Not a big advantage but still a advantage. I think ND wins because of Riley Leonard and that Irish defense that was top 10 last year. ND wins 27-20
that may be a very good take here
I think it’s a little unfair to criticize Jay Bateman too soon guys.
Better pack a lunch! ND defense is tuff!
Mike Elko isn’t really a “new” coach at A&M. He took a 2 year sabbatical to Duke and returned to many of the same players.
fair but hc is a big deal
I think Collin Klein should’ve been a talking point on here in how he schemes, a considerable upgrade over what A&M had with jimbo in the past
this is fair. I should have brought it up. this is a good point
Good call, Blake
Ill be at the game and Notre Dame will win
the real burt reynolds does what he wants
@@ruffinoandjoeshow YES WE DO!
“Connor WAIGMAN” 😂
Expect false starts and missed assignments from the o-line. 😬 Look what happened with Bama’s o-line at Kyle Field in 2023. That Texas heat is the real deal too. Appreciated this gentleman. 🤘 Go Irish ☘️
High tomorrow of 88... and overcast. Huge break for Notre Dame because the heat COULD have been a major factor, but it won't be.
These guys don't know what the hell they're talking about. LOLOLOL 😅
thank you for watching
An unproven o line for Notre dame will be the question, against A&M’s front 7 which is a returning monster of a unit,, one of the best in the country… and I don’t like the maroonites chances of overall success. But they’ve lost 2 total non conference games in Kyle field in the last 16 years from what I’m seeing..
very true
Aggies RB room is fine. Leveon Moss was probably going to be the work horse back regardless of Reuben Owens availability
regardless of availability? he is out for the season lol
ND has a really good run defense
Yep, I'm aware Owens is out. But Leveon Moss is still an explosive RB. Just more 1-dimensional.
EJ Smith was actually out playing all the RBs at certain points in camp
Don't get me wrong, can't replace Reuben Owens explosiveness in space.
It will be a beautiful day for Notre Dame, if A&M decides inside run game is the game plan.
@@nevergiveupnevergivein7655 notice I didn't call it a good gameplan, I just said he should handle it better than Owen's would. But I have heard linebacker is the weakest link of this defense so maybe it's not such a bad idea
@@Jake-ip4sx yeah, "weakest" link because you decided there has to be one. There isn't a weakness on this defense, not in the aspect of there being a level of the defense that can be exploited.
I mean everyone is like the left of tackle of Notre Dame is going to be on an island. If you think about it they chose Knapp cause he’s quick and will keep up with the DE from the Aggies plus he’ll have help from the running backs
If it was baker he would get whiffed and it would be the de vs the Rb and that’s how Knapp is the better choice. Irish by 17
Scourton is a problem for any LT int he country
Has Riley Leonard played through a whole year?
yes
@@ruffinoandjoeshow thank you I didn't pay much attention to Duke in 2022 and was driving so I didn't have the ability to go googling lol but this reminded me and I looked up his 2022 stats
These guys don’t know how to read a depth chart. There is only 1 transfer listed on the offensive line for A&M (RG Reed Adams). The OC is undecided (thus the OR). We all love the potential of Ruben Owens, but he was A&M’s 3rd string RB.
Nice "Superbowl 25" hat, Sir 👍😎
thanks
ND might win, maybe perhaps. Edge to A&M because of the home field advantage.
could easily happen
Ruffino definitely did not watch the Miami game. The equipment manager for Miami was the MVP of that game and the A&M team was on skates with that wet field. 😂😂😂
You're inefficiency in the second half was because of who?
It's 100 degrees in south bend rn. Weather is irrelevant in terms of heat
It was 90 there today. also welcome to humidity
We need perfect weather
Irish need to trample A&M. Establish the run using Riley as a runner.
Ruffino knows whats abt to happen in kyle field 👀👀
Same thing that happened when Appalachian st visited college station 😂
that place is really tough to play. All the ND fans who think this isn't going to be a "football war" are kidding themselves
@@ruffinoandjoeshow was there when they beat bama with elko as dc.. it roars when big teams come to town especially at night
Isn't most of A&M o line transfers in this year
no, only two
I'm not buying that ND o line holding up in this game.
How much did you lose as a guy who won't buy it? Maybe your ego, maybe thousands of dollars?
The talk about heat needs to stop. Right now it is 102F at ND. Got close to that for a few days prior.
we looked it up today, it was 90 degrees. also south has humidity. you don't
Buddy on the right is praying elko isn’t calling the defense 😂😂
lol
ND has seen it before. Irish are fully aware of Mike Elko
Mike denbrock can outplay call elko
I think our D line is not as good as everyone thinks they are good just not elite
so then its about what everyone thinks it will be?
No one is taking a&m its why the line moved
you aren't watching guys in the media then lol
Sounds like A&MS D line is much better then ours
I respect the ND starting DTs n the Duke DE transfer, haven't heard anything about their depth though.
NDs DL is also top 5
@@ericward7499 Their ends are certainly twitchy and fast.. I'd actually give the depth edge to ND in this battle of the DL Titans however. aTm's starters are all 1st day draft picks but the Irish have some young pups and reserve linemen that will surprise this season, perhaps as early as the opener.
@@andrewscruggs5906 no 1st rounders
Go back and look at the turnovers by Weigman and look and see whose fault they were
go back and look how many he has starts against.... defenses like this
We need a better duo on this show. The guy on the left, while he makes some decent points, talks over the guy on the right way too much. He’s also way too matter of fact for a guy who’s probably right about half the time.
Thank you for the kind words. -Guy on the left

The contrast on personalities actually is cool. Guy on left doesn't like ND he's SEC. Guy on right is all irish.

OK, GIG EM' ... BUT WE NOT FROGS! GO IRISH!!
Dumb take Conner Weigman was a five star playing Texas HS football and played defenses in the SEC A&M doesn’t play 8-9 teams every year that are 2nd tier. Ok homers
Blake isn't a ND Fan. Secondly this is the best defense he has seen. So what he was a five star? He has to prove that he can go out there a produce. The best defense he ever saw he threw two picks.
Thats not a homer take that is reality
@@ruffinoandjoeshow you didn’t watch that Miami game, and it shows.
Why do people have so much faith in high school recruiting stars? It is like if you get 5 stars when you are 17 years old then you are infallible for the next 6 years.
Weigman had 5 starts in his career and you would think he has led the team to a 11 win season for the last 7 years according to this guy.
@@ruffinoandjoeshowone of those was a last second hail Mary & the other his WR slipped. Casual
If ND's line who is expected to feast this year can and does control the game they win easily.
huh
Notre dames d line is better and your qb is worse you’re kinda fucked
Joe has lost the plot
what was the plot?
All these amateur wannabe sports analysts with these shows are so comedic. Talk about your home team… fine. Making predictions week 1, stupidity. Start making predictions after week 4 or if you're so sure of your team, show us your bet in Vegas. Doubt that's gonna happen
Blake and Joe went well over 65% in betting last year. Maybe you should listen
I don't know I think the rain is bad for a&m because their quarterback needs to be able to throw the ball? Our quarterback doesn't if you can run the ball and get outside the pocket and just do a little bit of dips and doodles we win Texas a&m needs to be able to throw the football to win this game and run but they're run game is going to be non-existent they have to throw the ball as of now a&m is one dimensional it's all on their quarterback and offensive line simple as that That's it I don't understand how you guys are missing that That's the game right there the quarterback of Texas a&m because their run games going to be non-existent this is the game right here is can that quarterback elevate and make plays downfield against that secondary and that pass rush of Notre Dame's that's the game right there we know Riley Leonard's going to do some crazy stuff and get us some first downs one pass rusher is not going to blow this game up I'm sorry it's not it'll hinder it a little but it ain't going to blow the game up they have to be able to throw the ball downfield to win
