- Flying on the Combat Box server I've been really enjoying the P-38. In this clip I absolutely massacre a Ju-88 with the 50 cals in the nose, and then turn the tables on a Bf 109K who manages to sneak up on me, forcing an overshoot with some judicious application of the Scissors maneuver, and eventually score a victory.

I love the P-38 because it's the one plane where the Allison V-12s got the turbo supercharger set up they were designed for. I have a lot of respect for this plane. It is more maneuverable than most give it credit for and can be a very lethal aircraft in any theater with the right pilot at the controls.
Agreed! Especially working in pairs, you can really overcome its limitations
The P38 was the most feared aircraft during WWII, no other aircraft including the P51 was its equal. In GB it can out climb and easily with your flaps out turn the just about everything in Game. It is my top aircraft for all situations. An awesome aircraft all the way around. Most feared by the germans. Didnt get called the Fork Tipped Devil for no reason.
The P38 was a great plane but the p51 drastically outperformed it at altitude. Your comment is silly.
Thanks for sharing mate! I love content that you create! Pls, keep it up!
First time my wife has ever been interested in watching one of my “nerd videos” - thanks for the synthwave!
I got a chance to see a P-38 do an aerobatic routine at the Gathering of War Birds in Madera, CA sometime back... The pilot did the whole routine; The engines sounded like thay were working hard, not the scream of a P-51 for sure. He cut an engine and did the routine over again... Engine sounded like it wasn't working hard, just the low roar. Taking out one's engine just means things might be a little equal in the power department now. If the model is accurate, it's a zoom and boom beast.
Had a chance to talk to a WWII P-38 pilot, back in the 70's, he loved it. Only problem he mentioned was lack of visibility underneath, so after making a pass he and the wingman blasted up and away, got separation and check things out before committing to anything else, he loved that no other aircraft could do that... If you knew how to use it, getting into trouble was a foreign concept - according to him.
incredible skills and great commentary
I find the Allisons are very resilient once damaged.
New opcode vid...instant thumbs up!
I like it very very much thanks and please go on!
Nice fly
You are the Spring))
Good text narration
I dont know if you have dual throttle controls, or what, but the real manuvering
of the Lightning was in vectoring thrust....Cut inboard power and the plane would 'corkscrew' inside any planes turn....In a climb...As long as your not already in the gunsight.
Music was cool. What is that?
Any wisdom on how to run the throttle+RPM on this thing? People have told me not to bind the two controls to the same axis but fail to explain why. What would the point be in ever reducing the RPM to less than 100%? Whenever I fly this thing it feels gutless as hell and cant even outrun a single engine 109 in a straight line.
It'll out climb some 109s though, so there's that. You want the RPM on a separate axis so you can keep your engine cool, so that you can abuse it later when you need to.
@@na851 ahhh. That actually makes a lot of it make sense. Thanks. Probably the best explaination I've heard without being technical jargon overload
Opcode, please tell me if there is a chance on video about dive bombing in fighter planes. There are many about dedicated bombers, but none about JäBo or P40/LaGG.
There's always a chance! The problem is that I don't do a lot of JaBo because I'm not very good at it, lol
Definitely had some aw sh** moments, it seemed apparent cutting back throttle is a sin? Really going after a downed opponent? Besides that good video.
What altitude is 'the perch' ?
It just means to go back up high and wait. The specific altitude depends on what aircraft you're flying, clouds, etc. Usually 2-4000 meters
4:30 most likely blacked out
Yeah, probably. Tacview data shows he pulls in excess of 5G several times.
I thought he got 'em with the anti-bear tactics
Are you from Slovakia?
I'm from Canada
@@na851 I thought you're from Slovakia because of Jagdgeschwader 13 in your logo :D
Trying to hit him with your wing...
White captions on ice, dat ain't nice.
