Are stages 1:1 recreations of the real-world WRC venues? How was the 2017-spec Volkswagen Polo captured? How did the project come about?
The first official World Rally Championship games, by Codemasters, hear how the team has worked with Unreal Engine, refined DiRT Rally 2.0's handling system and implemented the new-for-Rally1 hybrid system.
All are answered here, but also be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below - we'll try to answer your questions!

I know probably wont get an answer, but, the steam page mentions triple screen support, does that mean just support for ultrawide resolutions or proper triple screen support with side screens angle adjustments? I really hope is a proper support, is one of the few things that I disliked from previous games

Hey there! Do you think you can implement:
      1. A recce
      2. A personalized pacenote system with preset calls/notes
There are times in many rally games that the notes can be either misleading, lack of necessary info or downright wrong

Really appreciate going into some of the depth into the reasons behind the tech choices and explaining the 'DR3' (may it rest in peace) to WRC transition. I hope the 'bonus' locations isn't something unique to the first game and will be something we see more of going forward.
    Thanks for the interview.

    • @iansteelmatheson
      @iansteelmatheson 9 месяцев назад +2

yeah it seems like the bonus locations were ones they were working on before having gotten the WRC license, but weren't in the WRC championship. kinda like how Portugal's stages are real roads near Fafe, but not Fafe. these were probably the same as that (1:1 recreations of real roads, but not WRC stages) and were going to be in DR3, but got scrapped as main locations once they got the WRC. very nice that we still got em!

Now this is a deep dive compared to the 5min trailers we got. Very much appreciated, the elephant in the room is the handling on RBR and the mods that still are dropping today. I'd love a separate episode on the handling model changes alone. Like, did they for example compare tarmac feel to AC, iRacing or any of the other benchmarks? Or did they just revise their own approach, the latter is based on my own experience, very often that I end up with the same result, because I didn't take in new external info or fresh takes.
I honestly never noticed any track dynamics in DR2.0 when it came to track wear. Tire strategy was near non existent unless somebody deliberately set up long intervals between services and this is actually where rallying and managing risk on long rallies really started to shine as you actually had to take care of your car, not just go flat out. I'm sure we will still not be able to do mixed tries strategy even if that is like the biggest headache for each rally driver. Tarmac cutting dirtying the road is also something I expect to not be in there as it probably would frustrate the main group. Even just saying "there's just no budget for it" is a perfectly valid response to any such questions, but did the market research somehow ask for "build your own car?".
Everything else is amazing, but if there is not a lively, exhilarating handling model at the base, then I'll eventually go back to SimRallyFans again. Cautiously optimistic, but sitting on the fence for VR.

I’m so so hopeful that the game is very very similar to dirt rally 2.0 and not so much the other WRC games I couldn’t play them while owning dirt rally for 1 the sound was messed up badly and then of course dirt rally physics and graphics and menu systems just the entire game in general was so very simple and easy to maneuver thru except on the track that was difficult and wonderful and also the Tuning was very down to earth.

Wow. Nice work. I appreciate that, as I was definitely looking for info on this title
The biggest thing for me is an improvement in the handling. Tyre model, FFB-sounds great. It seems they aren’t doing a radical overhaul of it, but an improvement is great
Great to hear about UE giving the team a boost and allowing them to be more efficient with the production of the game
Fun to hear about the development all around
I’ll definitely be choosing the Scottish woman, I’m happy they’ve added this option
The throttle control option for newer players I think is a great option. Due to the tight turns, narrow road, unfamiliar environment of a powerful car-I think this will really be a positive thing for a lot of players
    Looking forward to this title

  • @socks2441

in regards to physics: "for new players, thats where we have done even more work"
    - a bit ominous for those that wan thte sim physics improved to hear they have been working so much on simplified handling for new/ arcade players....
that bieng said, they did say they carried over the dr2.0 gravel physics with some minor improvements, and said they have improved the tarmac to some extent.
so hopefully catering to both audiences will work this time unlike the the disaster that was dirt 4.

It will be interesting to see how they have improved on the physics as i do hope it lives up to expectations as Dirt 2.0 was quite a dissapointment that although they received quite alot of criticism for they never really addressed the problems. I will be waiting for the reviews from the credible youtubers before i part with my money this time around. I am only intetested in what really matters in a rally sim how does it feel with a wheel and does the sound immerse me in the overall experience. The alteration to pace notes is kind of irrelevant. Fingers crossed !

That would be best, keep updating the base game for years and simply release content packs each year. I think that's how they will go, I just can't see them adding enough to new content each year to warrant the same game with a few extras. This launch content is 4 years of work. People would be angry buying a new game for the same price with such little new content... but F1 do it every year.

This is EA, so it's clear this will be a yearly release. Why buy this one when next year there will be a "bigger, better" version? The claim "it's not yet determined" is not true - at this point in any game's development, things like this must be already set in stone. A service-based game is developed completely differently than standalone yearly releases.

I believe career mode is for creating your own team (although there might be an option to just join a team instead).
However there is also Championship mode where you can run a full season in any real wrc car and team anywya

I guess we all know what to expect when the creative director said " we put more work into handling changes to make it accessible for new players". Shows what they are focusing on, which is $$$.
I can't believe no one is going into the details of the physics and improvements to it. For a so-call 'Quintessential simracing experience' the only thing that was discussed is improvements to tarmac stages ( which was pretty poor in the previous game) . Thats it, everything else is filler, changes to handling for new players, career mode sounds amazing but is going to get boring real fast. etc. etc.
When games like Forza Motorsport and GT go into so much detail about the improvements to the game physics, a simracing game prides itself with Career mode and moments as though they are groundbreaking new stuff.

@TraxionGG please ask developers to add the ability to cut tires like how Sebastian Loeb and others did before each stage especially in Monte Carlo. Loeb would pick a harder compound but cut many lines in the tyres to go fast on dry surface and manage on the icy parts. Also please ask developers to add Mitsubishi Lancer WRC 05, Peugeot 307 and Subaru WRC 05 and 06.

    • @idaanx
      @idaanx 9 месяцев назад

@@flaw3dgenius222 Neon was used in Dirt 1 and Ego is just an evolution of this engine. And now it's TOCA 1 and 2 on Ego too? Dirt 2 or Grid was the first on Ego, don't remember which came first. Making the games more arcade doesn't have to do with the engine itself, just look at Dirt 3 and Dirt Rally, basically same engine different result in physics. Also the bloom was an artistic decision (a stupid one), not something forced on by the engine. I really think you're confusing (game) design decisions with what software tools bring to the table.
But if you didn't like the previous games by CM, you will most likely not like the new one either. Unreal is just responsible for the graphics part.

You should have asked whether or not they will be testing their patches before release, since they currently do not do so for F1, leading to multiple patches claiming various items were fixed when they were not (repeatedly), and even releasing a patch which deleted every custom controller setup for every customer without warning.
I haven't heard a single challenging question in any article or interview I've seen you guys do, so I'm not expecting any change here. You strike me as the kind of people who are just happy to get the interview and won't risk upsetting your little apple cart.

Hey "dude." They took the lead team off F1 to help push WRC out the door, not to mention that they are all in fact, Codemaster employees. That is one reason why the patches for F1 don't even fix the things they claim to fix. There is no reason to suspect that Codemasters or EA will treat WRC customers with any less contempt than they do the F1 crowd.
