this guy's such a great lyricist! patton's got-the-goods! this should be trump's theme goin' fwd: in retro-spective-gratitude-for-all-time, because he was lucky to walk away from that vicious swamp!
I like how in the first and second breakdown he says “it shouldn’t bother me, but it does.” Then later upon return he sings the same “it shouldn’t bother me,” but instead of “but it does,” there’s a haunting vocal...almost like a ghost over his shoulder reminding him “but it does.”
I **LOVE** HOW HE THE ORGAN STRIKES ONLY "TWICE!"--THEN "ONCE!", then repeats!! It's SO Bluesy!! Later in the song, it happens, again--but this Time, there's there Minimalist Bluesy Guitar Notes being Struck Over those Organ Chord Strikes!! I **LOVE** THIS SONG!!
I remember when this came out....I had just moved to LA from the DMV in March of 92 & I got this on cassette & I remember being so amped cuz it wasn’t part 2 of their previous record,it was totally original & fresh in an era with A LOT of stiff competition in rock&roll
So i've done pretty good just from listening on what the lyrics actually say. "the cracking portraits"/ "fondling of trophies" definitely got me... I thought he said "the crack is for trade" / "you'll find it in the trophy" (my mind sometimes lmao XD) Also, I was mistaken on the part "the null of losing" / "can you afford that luxury?" Well here, since I thought the first lines said the whole drug bit, I have always heard "the dollar of sin" / "can you afford that luxury?" Yeah... apparently I was under the impression that this song was about a drug dealer or something, haha. Ty for the vid, this really is an amazing song here. Especially now that I actually know what he's saying hehe :)
oh man i just got in to recovery. Been jamming to this since a ill nino... i was rocking out so hard listening to this that somebody thought i was having a seizure....lol..

"Epic" would play on radio all the time and that particular style of vocals still sound so stupid to me... only when I paid attention to the lyrics I became a massive fan... by the way, google Song Meanings Faith No More... but don't be selfish, leave comments too... the song Evidence was what hooked me
@@trexx97 Hierarchy doesn't end with ayne it end with achy. Clearly arcane. I read it somewhere that he was talking about Tarrot cards spread out on the nightstand, (like she is a witch or something). Thus the higher arcane. It is wrong everywhere on the Internet. Listen from .09 to .13. He is definitely saying arcane with an N not hierarchy. What does spreading a hierarchy out on the nightstand even mean. I"m 99.9% it is Higher Arcane, which means if I am wrong it would be maddening because I have listened to it hundreds of time and have a memory of seeing someone discuss the meaning of what the higher arcane meant. The higher arcane(the cards) spread out on the night stand (spread is what a layout of the cards are called). This also implies that the girl he is talking about is a witch, which goes with the theme of the song more.
@@trexx97 I did and I still hear the N sound in arcane. It may be a mondegreen but even thinking hierarchy I still hear higher arcane. So if you speak at one constant volume, at one constant pitch, at one constant rhythm, right into my ear, I still won't hear, I still won't hear. Sorry.
This is always going to be one of the best ever recorded til the end of time.
And you are very very awesome

One the best set of lyrics to ever be written
20+ years later this song still hits me harder than the first time I heard it!!!
MIKE PATTON THE ONLY PERSON THAT SERIOUSLY INTIMIDATES RHCP.
THEY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE FNM SILENCED.
V SAD. MOST UNFAIR TO MIKE.

Yelling with my mouth shut… this line hits different than it did 30 years ago but it still hits. One of the most underrated songs/albums of all time

I've heard FNM many times. This song in particular. I've only begun LISTENING recently. Lyrical genius.
He makes them sound good
100 %Pure genuine genius
No rip offs.
Mike drives the band. m i wrong?
@@AC-ny1di
Nope your not wrong at all.
This is an accurate comment. Music has a high churn rate. We don't get the time we need to spend with the bands we should.
Right! I have been saying that since I first heard them in the 80s

Man oh man until I saw the lyrics had no idea what he was saying for most of the song! Haha
Am I the only one who hears "Take My Breath Away", the TOP GUN love song from the very beginning synthline?
Is this song about being on a championship team where you’re the backup and never get to play?
A lot of this bands music is a little too funky for me, but the arrangements on this song is so good.
(I'm Surprised that The Thought Police Allow This...)
