  • I have spent years exploring my Tourette Syndrome learning how to manage tics.
    To work on TV I had to redirect them so they would be disguised on screen.
    Everyones experience with TS Is different, this is mine.
    If you have any experiences redirecting or cool techniques on managing your tics, I would love to know how you do it!

    It astounds me how much you folks put up with and still manage to have great outlooks on life :) You guys/gals are genuine warriors. It amazes me that you found any way at all to "control" your tics. (I know they're not really controlled) Thank you for the information!

    I’m doing CBIT at the moment and we’re mostly trying to control my coprolalia which comes and goes as it pleases. This also works for word and sentence vocal tics other than swearing: Trace the word you think might be coming out as a tic on the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Use your tongue like a pencil and write whatever word you think is about to come out and do it as soon as the urge arises. Sometimes i consciously clear my throat while doing it to help alleviate the urge even more. It takes some focus and it helps to picture the word being traced out. It’s a lifesaver and I’ve been using it for about a month with great results.

      Oh wow! That is cool. I didn’t have sweet words as a kid I had other random words. Which I believe is Palilalia. And I did that same technique. How long have you been doing CBIT?

    I’m going to try this. I have been dealing with this very bad tic where I have to jam my left side ribs into my stomach. I went through an extremely stressful time last winter and the tic got so bad I ended up badly injuring the rib muscles on my left side. It took several months before I could even lay down on my left side without being in massive pain. The pain, although lessened, is still there 6 months later as well as the tic. Hoping I can redirect it with this advice so my rib muscles can finally recover fully. Thank you for the advice!

      Gooood luck with redirecting. How have you found it 2 months on?

    I have an N word tic and I've tried to redirect it to say Nicaragua and now I'm ticcing both. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've had this same tic for years and I've been waiting for it to run it's course but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It's still very upsetting.

      @@SeamusEvans I'm ok, I'm trying to comfort myself that it's a tic and I'm not racist. Just feels absolutely horrible to have that word leave my mouth. Some days are better than others. Thanks!

    One of my tics is pushing in or punching my stomach. What replacement would you suggest?

    • @SeamusEvans
      @SeamusEvans  Год назад

      That is a really tough one. I would suggest exploring that tic trying to understand what is the sensation your brain is after? Is it in the skin being pinched? In the fingers doing the pinching? Or your forearm? Explore and trial as many different movements as you can. Your tic may take on another tic over time that is less painful or annoying.
