- Lets unbox and study the NEW Thomas & Friends Adventures Thomas The Tank Space Mission and Dino Discovery James. These Thomas toys are metal talking toys that have special clip on theme pieces and will chit-chat when you press a button on the drivers cab. There is also a small light on the trains running board that a very nice detail. The Thomas Space Mission seems to be the Take N Play Stanley In Space part combined with a Thomas Adventures Jet Engine rolling stock. The Dino Skull James is great eye candy and these dress up parts can fit onto some other characters. The best feature of these toys is it's a way to get back the older larger styling while using the new Thomas Adventures clip-connector coupling system. This is especially important with the Thomas model as we can see he has his full sized Take N Play / Take Along drivers cab back. Talking Thomas toys may not be everyone's favourite toys but with these examples look past the talking feature. It's always curious to look back at previous toys to see how these new toys have changed, the little running board light feature would have been nice on the Thomas Light-Up Racers! I feel these toys will be especially popular and it's nice to see some really curious sets appear in the Thomas & Friends Adventures toys.

These Thomas toys are great. I paid for them with my own money and I am given no assistance from the mega big toy companies. These can be a bit difficult to find, maybe the best bet is go into e-bay and pay top dollar. I'm not a fan of talking toys, just get them for a flash back to the earlier toy design with the cool new coupling system.

That's odd. These talking Thomas Toys are being sold in Australia, but yet they still have their American voices.
These are an improvement, but I think Trackmaster is still the way to go. They've come down in price quite a bit. It would be nice if they would just focus on 2 lines, 4 lines of the same train, plus all the extra stuff is a bit much in my book, but they sell, so I guess I can't fault them.

Imagine in 10 years finding one of these toys in a charity shop without the context of the accessories on the faces. How confused would you be if when you got home and pressed the button they started talking about dinosaurs and and space travel for no discernible reason?
I wish someone else would take the thomas license. And i wish that toy company isn't lazy.
The Thomas possibilities I miss is what Lego could do if they had the licence. But the chances of Mattel letting Lego have a go would be zero. They are bitter enemies in the toy world.

That Space Mission Thomas is based on the RUclips Video from Thomas and Friends Adventures by the same name... basically none of the toys are based on the tv series

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I compleatly agree with you on the whole "dumb magnets" factor on the thomas take and play. As a matter of fact, I don't own a single one. I stopped buying them until they switched to the new couplers.

The new Adventures Thomas is exactly the same except for the stupid looking magnet? The 2012 version still looks considerably better to me. It sounds like James had an American accent, I thought you get the UK versions in Australia? I knew you were going to mention Thomas and the jet engine, first thing I thought as well! The jet engine looks very cheap, but the Thomas looks good, nice big cab.

Weird thing is little fan Thomas videos are often more popular than the Thomas TV show. That says much about the little at home Thomas film creators and not much about the expensive CGI Thomas stories.

I have the Space mission Thomas as well as the Space mission Stanley and they make a great duo. Honestly, i miss Adventures. Sure you couldn’t connect it to Take N Play/Take Along, but the community found so many ways to connect them to eachother. It was a good line to me and in my opinion it was definitely an improvement over the 2014 Take N Play with their big dumb magnets. Plus i absolutely love the style of packaging Adventures had. It looked very colorful and it was one of the eye catchers for me. I had alot of faith in Adventures. I thought it was gonna be the beginning of a new golden era. But no.. Mattel decided to cancel it and replace it with Trackmaster Push Along..
My son loves these toys and the talking ones good value for money

I think the reason they have that RUclips Kids thing on the back of the box, is so kids SEE the toys, and THEN buy them.
Cause all the Shark Attack and Moon Jump Thomas stuff is promotional material on the app, so that may be why they have the thing on the back

I am rather pleased with the drop in price for these Adventures engines where I live. I want to obtain that Rosie, Ashima, and Gina four pack, among others, because Rosie, but it seems I can never find them near me. Hm.
Kind of wondering how they'll go about Rosie's red paint in the coming season. Will she get a new Adventures toy with that livery? Will they include her lamp? Will I pick up three? Really hope so.
Also, and more relevant to the video, I'm wondering why they don't just keep the engine's cabs like the talking versions. It's very inconsistent in terms of detail. I don't completely understand the reasoning.

If Mattel says they are having trouble with profits....listen to the customers, as cliche as it is, they seem to always be right, and if you give them what THEY want and with their perspective in mind, you may gain something. But what do we know...we are only normal people, not a huge worldwide toy company.

I think Mattel's biggest problem is how to compete with the iPad generation who will play with free apps 24/7. This change over the past 6 years has seen toy sales plummet. Kids will now just watch a video about a toy rather than wanting to have it themselves. I see that with my son. It's a really curious time to see how much the simple iPad had re-wired a generation of children. If this is good or bad is still to be worked out. I feel it's a very destructive time with so many children now addicted to digital devices.
No wonder there is that RUclips Kids thing on the packaging...what a world we live in.
I always have the idea that pretty soon toys will be free. Thats the only way they can compete with the totally free app games.

Mattel's share price has been dropping heaps. It's now around the price it was back in the 90's. With what I see going on I feel the price has further to fall. Since 2014 it peaked at just above $40 per share, it's now down around $25. The golden era for Mattel's shares was the mid 90's. It was around $23. So remember right now it's trading at $25. I can see Mattel are doing all they can to reverse this trend, but they are up against an enemy who is everyone's new best friend which sets up a digital device addiction as part of the deal. They are not only up against something that's free, it's also a highly addictive activity. Their share price is also a insight into the mood of the consumer. In tough times people stop buying nice toys. Possibly we are very close to some very tough times as well.
As always great review. No excuse for the low volume on the train, we have tons of value village super cheaply made toys that have GREAT sounds and are VERY loud and clear yet made with far less quality than these Thomas trains. Hey Lets get that logo back to friendly status, we know RUclips pooped on us all. I cant even get 1 view due to the lack of recommendations from youtube since were not democrats you know, lol, anyway we love you bro!
