- Thomas The Tank get set for speed and excitement inspired by the Spills & Thrills DVD! Tilt the tracks against the wall then lift the gate to send Thomas racing down the paint shed. As he zooms downward, Thomas triggers exciting actions. He knocks over the signal, crosses over the drawbridge, sends the cargo down the zip-line and crashes through the pain shed. When Thomas bursts through the pain shed, he comes out covered in paint! But it's not really that much fun!
Thomas & Friends Spills N Thrills On Sodor is a Take N Play toy train playset loosely connected to the Thomas DVD Spills N Thrills. This Thomas toys sends Thomas on a downhill adventure crashing and turning until he smashes through a paint factory and gets covered in paint using a smart magnet trick. This playset is a very strange Take N Play set because it relied on leaning against a wall to play. Back in 2014 I did a toy review of this toy but never finished the video because my son and I noticed this playset had some major issues, maybe even missing parts. Sadly for us this toy just kept slipping off the wall and it was nowhere as fun as the previous folding and free standing style Take N Play toys we had before. There are not many toys that get held back from a review but this was one. It spooked me that this set could not be a stand alone toy like all the other Take N Play toys up to this time. In 2017 I revisit this Thomas toy and by purchasing another I investigate how I feel this toy should have been presented. Put it this way I never saw another Thomas toy like this one, it's a bizarre one off design. What is surprising but not really surprising is the new 2013 Thomas (dumb magnet) and Thomas Adventures really doesn't work on this playset because it's designed for the 2012 smart magnet Thomas toys. What really spooked me was the endless good reviews this playset was given by other toy reviewers on RUclips, no one wanted to speak about the elephant in the room. Anyway with the playset now fixed in a very simple way and my son is really happy to play and relive the glory of the Thomas Take N Play toys. Once a toy is made right it's so much more fun to play with.
Anyway I get out some old classic Thomas Take N Play playsets and have a trip back in time to see how glorious it was just a few years back. In 2010, Take-Along was bought by Mattel and became a Fisher-Price line and renamed Take-n-Play. New characters were released and the old models were re-released with upgraded paints and faces.
I notice it's still for sale on Amazon, my simple advice is it needs legs!

This was a trip back in time and it was awesome! I remember watching a lot of the original reviews of those sets that you showed. It's sad to see how fast Take-n-Play went downhill around 2013 and what we're dealing with today. Great video Leo!
Some of those later Take N Play sets weren't even worth looking over. I did not understand the drift away from what feels like Sodor Island. Maybe those developing the toys were given King King DVD's instead of classic Thomas series DVD. Anyway that period between 2013 to 2016 a curious awkward adventure for the Thomas toys. With the ditching of classic TWR I can only assume the journey goes way beyond Sodor. Obviously Mattel are addicted to change. I can assure them it won't help in relation to Thomas toys.

i had the carnival adventure i loved it especially when you put Thomas on the swirl slide you would push a button and it would launch Thomas And Play Thomas Music For A Second It Also Had A Giant Hill I Used That Hill As Gordon's Hill But Leo You Would Love That Set Its A Great Set!
I think it would be great to see the streamlined Thomas in adventures! Amazing how the diecast Thomas sets have changed over the years, I think the thing with children that play with iPads now compared to the ones that played with toys they may be a difference in intellect and imagination, would be interesting to see if it does make a difference to play with iPads or toys! Great video as always Leo!
Honestly, I'd love for Mattel to do an Adventures Streamlined Thomas, but I think an even better idea would be to make an Adventures version of the Take' n' Play Gold Thomas.

I used to watch Thomas the Tank engine. Later in my years I realized the little conductor some old guy was actually a comedian. I always wondered why my dad laughed when he watched Thomas.
This video was a blast to the past for when I was a young child playing with take n play I had the dieselworks and a fold up one so much fun also whenever the toys bored me I watched the classic videos by you mad bomber dark side tomy blue track and take n play ah the good old days wish we could all go back to the 2010 era

I had the Thomas and Percy carnival adventure it was awesome
Its been a long time, back when I was younger, does anyone remember when you get a take along engine and you get one of those character cards that comes with them, I remember playing with thomas back in the take along era that was great.
Looking at this video really brings me back to the good times of when Mattel actually put effort into there toys.
Looking in toy shops today at Thomas stock none of the sets really bring me into wanting to buy it in fact I ran into a parent in the Thomas section and he said he preferred to buy the Trackmasters builder bucket and he said he didn't like complex pieces.
With the way Mattel are going these days I'm not really surprised children prefer iPads
My little cousin has spills and thrills and I never see him play with it I normally see him playing his Trackmaster so I think so I agree with you in saying that this play set is a bit naff without doing what you did to improve the set

Actually, there is a streamlined Thomas with the clip connectors and it really exists. It's from the collectible Railway line that is sold in some countries.

This set was one of the most awkward I have, yet many people on RUclips did reviews showing how amazing it was. I just don't understand why you would tell your audience a lie. Is it becoming that desperate on this site now.

You tell HONEST reviews, Mattel just wants positive reviews. They just want ads.
I think the main reason is I' not American. Mattel is a VERY American company and they have been stripping out staff here in Oz. It's been a very long time since I spoke to a Mattel rep in a toy store. I see lots of Lego reps! And they know their stuff.
That does make sence. I remember when the 2015 wooden railway flying Scotsman got released my friends over seas were going mad because I got it earlier than them because I live in the USA. Mattel releases things to the United States first because the US is the largest market to sell to I suppose.

Hello, I am 12 and IN LOVE with Thomas. I know it's weird but sometimes I cry over how many trains you have. I'm an oldie so I like the Learning Curve Era Of Toys. I'm from America and EVERYTHING I find is way too expensive. It makes me sad knowing I'll never have another chance to get these trains. Do you know any big stores who would sell these. I would love to know. Thanks!

Those training butter fly knifes are fun but I have bought one and me and my friends made a very jagged edge on it even though it says you cant. A standard butterfly knife that already has a blade on it isn't supposed to be sold in stores kinda weird

I don't collect Tale n play. I only collect wooden and ertl. But if the streamlining Thomas had the clip connector of adventures, it would sell a lot better.

I agree about the streamline Thomas . I also think that they should do the same with the shooting star gordon and awesome gold Thomas . Did you know that they are going to get rid of all the Thomas wooden railway stock and bring in Thomas wooden which will have a connecting sistum like trackmaster 2 ,ertl , and Thomas avecheres .

I think the set will work better on carpet, and I’ll tell you why because wood is, well you know more slippery, carpet creates inertia which makes the play-set’s base stay stable.

The dates on the trains are when they were manufactured not released. They would usually be released the next year.

I dunno, I think Thomas is spiralling out of control in the direction they are going in. The TV series' retool to take Thomas all over the world (Just as the series was getting good!) cannot be a coincidence- in fact it feels like they're trying to base the TV show off the toyline, and this concept just doesn't feel right or that it is coming from the right place.
BTW, I would be careful with the butterfly knife your kid was holding at the end of the vid, they're banned in some schools and not something he should be holding at his age.
