This is the type of shop I want. I want to be more than a chandler and soap maker. I want to be a shop.
❤️
You can do it!
You will have what you want. Continue to trust the process.
This, this actually made me tear up. Silly I know, but this is basically what I want to do/build into. So clean, organized, themed well, and just a homely feel. I don't think I will get there, but, wow, I want to dream. Seeing behind the scenes was great, I never knew about those types of labels, I have to look more into it.
You will absolutely get there!
❤️
@@jordanhansen3716 Thank you, I really hope so.
You will get there! No doubt :)
If your heart is in it you WILL make it happen. No matter what gets in your way
This was fun, Wade. Thank you for always considering the beginner and trying to make it a smoother, less hectic transition, than maybe you had it.
💯
I got SO MUCH from this video with Steve, I was writing things down and sending my husband the head-exploding emoji over the awesome tips (annoying for him when he's trying to watch his show haha).
Thanks, Steve! Great store, I'm crushing on it!
Love that! 😆
please start creating soap content! my wife makes soap, and loves your channel. she would go nuts if you created soap videos!
i'm on team steve. i put zinc in everything. if zinc doesn't work, it wasn't meant to be.
😁
Used to live near Bardstown and it's the cutest little town
Yes it is!
My dream life…also love craftserver. The people on there are the most knowledgeable in the biz for sure. ❤️. Thanks for sharing Making Good Scentz
💯
Minute 28:00 super important! Quality first!❤
Agreed
I LOVE THIS THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH WADE & STEVE
❤️👍
I am in the process of buying a candle business and this just gave me so much inspiration!!!!
Awesome!
This shop is what I imagine my heaven waiting room will look like! Enjoyed Wade, thanks for sharing!
Fellow soap/candle maker in Louisville. I love Good Scentz!! I’m so happy to see their success. 🎉
❤️
That’s awesome Ashley. Message me. Love to talk soap and candles.
Thank you. That was interesting. I would love to see a smelly jelly car air freshner tutorial.

@@makinggoodscentz4497 Wife and I said we must go to your shop when we visit family up north. May I please ask who pre prints your laminated thermal labels that you use in your Zebra printer. Thank you so much!
❤️
@@TimC883 we have used wizard and lightning.
If we just had patience. This guy is successful but he’s been doing this for over a decade. I think we all expect immediate success especially when we see candle company owners making videos saying “I started a candle business because I was bored during the pandemic’. That always gets me. I think to myself “HOW?!” I’m still in testing phase and it’s been over a year!!
I promised myself not to get discouraged and to always remember most successful people did not become successful overnight or even in a years time. Those success stories are typically very short lived.
Thanks for doing this one! It’s exactly what I needed today!
No problem lizzy! :)
Love love love this interview!❤️
Thank you! So inspirational and such amazing people: the interviewer and the interviewee!❤️😊
Thanks so much Eliana
Steve is lovely and great to have an insight into ten years down the road.
Loved this video and how down to earth Steve is! I love how he likes his particular wicks 🤣
Haha yep!
I agree with Steve😂If i cant make my testing work with my hemp wicks, I nix it
Interesting with cue tips for test blending. sounds cheaper than blotter strips!
I loved every minute of this video. I'm new to your channel and have binged watched your videos and learned a lot. Thank you!
Thanks! Appreciate that!
Great video ❤
Yeeesss family support is important.. it feels terrible when u overwhelmed already and plus no good words from family. Hard to be positive.!
Videos like this charge you and keep you going further ❤️ 🙏 thank u
This was a really great video! Informative and inspirational. It would be great to live in a small tourist town like this and have a good ole brick and mortar store. Hope you are able to do a few more episodes like this.
Thanks Mark. I plan to. These are my favorites as well
Great video. One of my favs. Great last comments by the guest.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Steve is such a lovely soul! The tour was enlightening and your friendship made it very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!
Of course!
What a lovely guy and business. Thanks for all the tips and advice!
Agreed!
Love it I’m right there with him! It’s awesome when what you make and love gives you a great living !
100%
this is SO inspirational. Thank you Wade and Steve!
You're welcome and thank you!
Great video! I loved the interview and tour - very helpful
❤️ thanks!
Thanks for doing this, very inspiring and I continue to learn from you and your guests.
You're welcome
I’m just starting out, completed my first month today and I had sales but they were all friends and family sales. I love your channel! It always gives me motivation to keep going! I understand I’m too early in the game but it sometimes feels like if I’m doing something wrong!
Just keep going!
I’m a full time nurse too and this gives me inspiration to move forward. I’m having reservations on opening a small store. Just doing a lot of craft shows almost every weekend. It would be nice to just have a place to make and sell. I know it’s a lot of work. Thanks for sharing☺️. Really inspired.
It’s definitely not an undertaking to take lightly. I’m a weirdo that enjoys doing shows. I only do 3/4 year but I’ve always felt if it didn’t have the store I’d do a lot more shows. The shop keeps me busy so you lose some of your freedom. But it’s much better than the nursing gig
❤️
I am so inspired by this video. Thank you.
You're welcome!
We make soaps with home grown ingredients including our own olive oil. Sooo jealous im hand writing our labels. We sell to fund our rescue dog sanctuary and desp need a boost in sales. Our dream would be a shop like this.
❤️❤️
Lots of great information in this video thank you!! 👏🏽
You're welcome!
This is SO inspiring! Another RN turned candle maker here and I just am so in love with the process.
😁
Great video!!! Excellent advice!!! This video has given me a little more confidence to get out there and sell my products. Thank you so much Steve and Wade Thomas!!!
Thanks Tamara!
Wade, do more of these types of videos. Loveeeeeee this so much!
Plan to! Thanks so much!
Thank you! Incredibly helpful.
So loved Steve's interview❤
Thanks for sharing!👍🏼
i really enjoyed this video and thankful you planned this tour and shared with us. great knowledge! 🍻
No problem!
Mind blown! Steve is such a good guy. Thanks Wade for doing this interview---so interesting!
Awww thanks… me and wade have the same thoughts on education. We’re not afraid of sharing the info we have learned over the years.
No problem Sally. And I echo wade Steve said
@@makinggoodscentz4497 Steve, you're a sweetheart, thanks for your reply, thanks for sharing and wishing you continued success!
That was good Wade! Thank you
❤️
Really enjoyed the video, thank you 😊
Thanks!
Oh my goodness! Excellent video, Wade! I wish I had seen it before I started my business. I bought about 60 fragrances starting out and some just did not work well with my wax no matter what I did…anyhow I am on track now testing, testing, testing and eliminating those that fail. I am not forcing anything! Thank you!
And a airbnb! 😮
😁
Loved this episode!! Of course probably because I'm a soaper primarily dabbling in other areas including candle making. Love to see what other entrepreneurs have created. Nice trick with the skiddle and pots too!
Thanks so much Wade for taking the time to do this, very much appreciated!
No problem Nancy!
Very inspiring!!! Thank you for sharing🤩
You're welcome!
Thank you, Wade, for such an interesting video!
These are my favorite to do
Thank you for making these videos 🎉 loving the content.
Thanks so much!
this was great to see an actual business and he was very nice to share the details of it - more of these videos that feature businesses would be great - THANKS!! love your videos
Would love to do more as well. Just requires a lot of travel and expense but I definitely planning more.
I love it all I will one day have my own shop but for now I’m getting all the insight I can get thanks for your insight
I absolutely love this, thanks for sharing Wade. Can you tell us where to get the vinyl transfer labels?
Thanks Steve!
I LOVE your channel AS IS, however, I am sure there are plenty of your followers working in other crafts, I intend to be one of those someday. You asked, and I do think it would be great to see other crafts mentioned or delved more into on this channel. Speaking for myself, you are someone I trust, I enjoy watching, and someone I learn from. I know if you do it, it will be done well and not halfway. Thanks again for all you do!
Thanks Teanna. Really appreciate that
Awesome video! I'm new to this so I'm soaking it all in. Love your channel!
Thanks so much!
Great episode. I really enjoyed that. This was like a real life version of what my wife and I have on our vision board for the future. You definitely need to go back and make some other products with him. That would be a good video. Thanks Wade
Definitely!!
So interesting! ❤
Glad you think so!
Great video!!!!
Ty karen!
I would love to see videos on pretty much any product that you're stuffing fragrance oil in. It doesn't have to be wax based.
😁
Great advice and information, thank you so encouraging x UK
😁
Great Interview I want to know more about the gloss thermal transfer printer
Guess who just bought a grittle lol another great video! Thanks Wade
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You’ll love it.
I make it all my dreams are having a shop one day I make my own candle vessels now and I’m still experimenting with different wax so I have not found one I really love yet but I’m sure I’ll get there but this shop is right up my alley everything is made lots of learning and making I’m adding all kinds of different candles to my all my soapy products bath bombs lotions scrubs lip balms he’s doing good I love to see other creators doing it all ❤
Wow beautiful 🎉❤
❤️👍
On May 7th, I turn 39. Finally I'm starting my dream of opening up a candle/soap/handmade business. It has only taken 32 years since I thought of it. Regardless, this is very similar to my ideal, thank you both very much for this video.
Good luck!
Now if only I could RTFM....
I love this! I opened my shop in 2014, unfortunately we were only open a few years. I was not prepared and ran out of funds for advertising and I'm horrible at posting on social media. So where I had return customers who loved all my in house hand crafted items, they kind of kept me to themselves. A few actually said they didn't want me to become too busy because they felt I would not be able to give attention to detail like I was for their products. I would formulate skin care products for specific needs. I was working full time doing home health care and trying to run my store alone.. It was a blast! I loved everything about it! Except the part where there was just not enough money. Maybe next time I will be more prepared. There will be a next time.. Until then I live vicariously through those of you out there doing what you love and making it in this wild world. I just hit 20 years at my health care job this February and I'm tired. The winds of change are starting to gently blow, I have been working on reformulating my skin care line and becoming more of a presence in my community the past few years, so who knows what direction the winds might blow me.. We will see...
❤️❤️ thanks for sharing. Keep us posted!
Leanna. It’s definitely a labor of love. I’m sure you understand that. You keep doing what you love and it will work out.
@@makinggoodscentz4497 I agree... It most certainly is a labor of love. I do love making, I love that I can put my creative ideas into something useful. I also love the science of it all.. My husband thinks I am a mad scientist.. lol Your shop is beautiful by the way.. I love everything about it. Congrats on your years of success. I know you work so hard for it.. I know you will continue to flourish. ❤
I'm doing my first Market next Wednesday and I can't wait! I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on my candles so I feel it will be a good show. I'm tempted to send you a few of mine for review but I don't know if your new address is available or not.
I own/ purchased a small soap and candle business in Ontario Canada. Last April. Love this!! I feel I am on the right track. I am in the process of changing my labeling system. Where are these label rolls from? Thanks ~Rawdon Creek Soap Co.
Question to the both of you i guess, the Smelly Jellies... how are these made? I've been thinking about adding Car Fershners to my range and this kind of thing would be perfect, you mentioned baking them?
Thank you so much, another great video. I was wondering how he makes his smelly Jellies? I thought it should be always in a jar?
You mix the beads and the fragrance in a jug. Let them dry/cure. Then we bake them in the oven
I like that and wonder if you can make video on how to make them;)
I would really like to start candle making ( i currently do just wax melts and soaps). I got a question i hope someone can help me with.
Once Finding the right wick and the right wax..... Once you find the wick that burns right, do you have to keep testing or change up wicks and testing on every different fragrance?
I just dont have the money to waste right now if i have to continue testing with wicks and fragrances right now .
Any suggestions on wick size and wax and vessels that would be a great startwe i would so very greatly appreciate.
Love this concept you have going on. Really live the family dynamic in it as well. That what its about.
Thanks in advance and congrats on your amazing business
Great video, thank you! Could I get more info on where the laminated thermal labels were purchased please? I just purchased a small thermal printer and have basic labels. His appears to be more custom. Thx!
I’m going to try and do a video to share. It has to be a thermal transfer printer. Not just a thermal printer.
Thank you!
👌
Hi Wade, I think your You Tube channel is successful because the viewers trust the information they are getting from you and you are sincere. Thanks for this video because after watching it I know there is no way in hell I would start a channel.....hit me up if you need candle blooper reels.
Lol. Thanks Lisa. And will do. 🤣
Help! We bought candle supplies from someone who went out of business. I have tried every recipe kind of can think of with this paraffin wax and I cannot get a hot throw. Would you recommend buying a new wax?
I love steves attitude on things. But one thing i have to ask.
When he mentioned the griddle. Did you mean it was a good idea, or were you biting your tongue?
No it is for small to medium scale. It keeps the pots warm. :)
I almost 😢 when he encouraged us to ignore the unsupportive sentiments from family and friends. I am a Cosmetic Chemist, Esthetician, and Mechanical Engineer.
I'm sure you can guess what nay-sayers suggest i just need to focus on for financial stability...
Hello there mr. Wade i have a question..what should i do my candle its lack of scent..because i just add 6% of fragrance oil.can i redo it and add more fragrance? Your reply most appreciated thanks and more power...
You can for testing purposes, sure!
@@BlackTieBarn thanks
Can we order from him
I would imagine so. :) makinggoodscentz.com
when you make 260k a year, is it a customer acquisition issue or a production issue?
I'm never satisfied with plateau. With the mind of Raymond Reddington, I wanna grow an empire.
I'm curious as to what's the solution
Is this $260,000 profit or sales?
Hey Karen. I assume sales. He had very little overhead and cogs though which is nice
Gross sales. It also doesn’t include online sales. We’re slowly growing online sales but 2022 online was around 30k
What is the net profit please? Is this shop making $260,000 annual sales? It's really misleading when businesses say they're making a certain amount of money as if that is their profit when it is their gross sales. If the net profit margin is 20% of $260,000 then they are only making $52,000 a year. Please tell us the net profit.
