Hello Thank you for your time, I actually want to buy this Tv in 2024 and I'm sure this is a good choice for my usage, I just have a question about it and I believe since your working with the company you are the right person to ask, some of the 65A80J TV's has 2 Satellite input and 1 antenna input on the back of the tv like you can see in the video 11:40, but some of this exact models has just one regular Antenna input, I wanna make sure that I'm buying the right one, I want all inputs, so please tell me the exact model of this tv that you showing in the video 🙏
@@raelkaz7828 I absolutely love it!! HDR content like Dune and streaming movies are amazing. I don't regret it at all and highly recommend it. The blacks are amazing, but I'm coming from an LCD tv where shadows and edges were glowing. Some were saying the brightness wasn't as bright as the A90J but I have to dial it back because it's too bright.
Just bought one this week, at more than half the price it was when it came out (55", 1099€). I say it's a pretty good deal! Image is truly superlative, Star Wars looks gorgeous on this TV, and I don't think the premium for the same size for the 2022 model is worth it. Sound is excellent for a TV, coming from an old 2011 Bravia with CCFL backlighting, the difference is stunning! I'll probably get a soundbar down the road. This is bargain, especially in 2023!
Great video, but can you just clarify if the A80J has enough hdmi 2.1 to have a ps5 and a sonos arc Dolby Atmos? Don’t want any messing around unplugging each time. What’s the difference again with the LG C1. Is it an extra 2 x hdmi 2, meaning 4 ports over the A80Js 2. Looking to buy in the next couple of days. I’m just a full on Sony guy but seen so many good reviews for the LG C1, especially gaming, but for me the sound arc compatibility and having no issues with ps5 hdmi 2. I’ve heard the firmware will improve for gaming anyway on the A80 so can hold out for this.
I just bought the "Sony A80J" and I am impressed with the image quality! I worried about my bright living room and almost bought the Full Array X90J, however, now I am 100% sure I made the right decision! I tried your "Custom" configuration but went back to the "Vivid" configuration as the brightness works better in my living room. Great youtube content as always! Keep up the good work!
@@Phuamt hi there… I have not, the image is perfect and I did not purchase any extended warranty as I thought the cost was too high. Flickering could be for many reasons and you can google some tips on how to fix it, even the cable connection can cause that flickering and is a easy fix.
Yeah everywhere i look everyone keeps suggesting to go for the 77" over the 65". Going to trust the Internet and go for 77". I'm coming from a 47" TV so it's going to look huge 😂
Awesome video and very helpful. Im hoping you can answer this. I just purchased a 55 inch A80CJ from Costco for 899. It is an Amazing TV. I am truly blown away by the picture qualify and the sound is amazing like you mentioned. I wanted to ask do you know the difference between the A80J and A80CJ? From what I can tell the only thing I noticed different is the switch to turn off the mic on the TV, 10 bravia movie's instead of 5 and an extra 2 year warranty. I'm assuming the C is Costco version? Do you know if there different in any other way? Thank you
I have a PS5 looking for Oled tv i saw the A8H big reduced priced and a80J my only concern is which is brighter? dont care about VRR bcuz sony tv or console dont support that, should i go to A8H or A80j? thanks in advance more power to your channel.
Hi there - at this moment in time, there is not much in the way of 8K content out there so I would say your money will be better spent with the A80J OLED. If you wanted to maximise the potential of Sony OLEDs, you could upgrade to the A90J or wait for the new and improved Sony OLEDs coming this year. Hope this helps!
Thx for the review bro , just i want to ask you which is better the sony A80j or the A90j or if i get the LG cx with a good price does it worth it , because i am going to buy an new oled
Hope you got the SONYs . I had a cx and when I got a Sony a9g it blew it away. I now have the A80j and it's slightly better than the A9g, which means its wayyy better than the cx
Loving my A80J. I’m considering the Sonos Arc at some point, however, in this video I can’t tell how much it’s covering the screen. Do you have the Arc on top of the stand feet or does it fit in between them?
The max stand width on the A80j is 40inches(65 inch version) while the sonos arc is 45inches wide and about 3.5 inches tall so you will have to use the raised position on ur stand and put the arc infront of the stand as opposed to between the stand. :)
A private retailer is selling this tv (55in) for $1,150 CAD but it has a scuff mark that is noticeable when the tv is off but not when it's on. Should I consider getting this TV at that price with the minor cosmetic mark? Thanks!
Very informative video, thank you! It helped me with my decision. I just bought 65-A80J and I am looking forward to test it at home, this will be my first OLED TV 😉
@@ralphalberti6851 I still feel it's a bit too soon but I wanted to give you at least some initial feedback after two weeks with the TV. I am very pleased so far and haven't run into any unexpected issues. Of course picture quality is amazing, especially in dark environment. Also during daytime for me it is bright enough to watch TV without any problem and closing the blinds etc., I feel if you do not have direct sunlight coming at it - it should be just fine even on a bright day. I am very pleasantly surprised by the sound system, and honestly I am now thinking if buying a soundbar makes sense, I suppose for a lot of people what this TV offers will suffice. I am not an audiophile but from my perspective bass is deep enough, produces clear music and also I can hear dialogues without any problem. Google TV works well but is a bit less functional if you live outside of USA (like me). However this is not specific to this TV but Google TV platform in general. This TV just asks to be watched in complete darkness, very immersive experience :) In such conditions backlit remote would be very welcome and that is one disadvantage I see. Probably not everyone will notice or want it, but I am considering buying one. I was cross-shopping this with Samsung QN90A and I am very confident I made the right choice :)
@@MirekZyzak Thank you. I am moving to Florida (The Sunshine State) and was a bit worried about OLED in the daytime. But there won't be any direct sunlight on the screen so I think it will work out fine.

I don’t game just watch Netflix prime plex RUclips and cable my C8 looks spectacular and this Sony is a dud. The A80j looks fuzzy, too green too blue very bland. It’s got bugs 🐜 🐛 🕷 once and a while I get a pop noise while navigating. As of yesterday powering up the Sony doesn’t power up the marantz at the same time. Nothing changed and it worked 2 days ago. Navigating can get frustrating, sometimes your flying around then it just kinda stops like it can’t keep up. And again back to navigating you’ll be in tv settings making your changes well DONT hit the back button or your starting all over again. You gotta hit the arrow button. This tv leaves a lot to be desired and at $3000 they coulda done better 🥺
I have just got the LG C1 2021 48 " its awesome!!!!! I recommend it esp if u r into sport, also i put on all the AI pro options its really did make a huge visual and sound difference well worth the money...
Enjoying the review so far but the soundbar covering the bit of the tv at the bottom is kicking my ocd into high gear wish you would of set it up on the high stand setup lol. I'm getting the A90 or A80 in the next couple of days but still can't decide if getting the A90 at 65 or the A80 at 77 is rhe better option. I'm about 3 meters away from the tv stand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that both have the screen as a center channel but is that batter than using a standard sound system. Please help!!
Can you help answer what seems like an easy question? What 55-65” TV’s do upscaling best? We watch 95% terrestrial/ satellite basic broadcasts and basic online streaming on things like More4 or BBC etc… very very rarely push the TV’s 4K or 8K resolution with blue ray etc so what make and models do this best? It’s almost impossible to find this out as ever review or TV demo in store is geared to push the TV’s high resolution capabilities
Ordered it yesterday from John Lewis, they also do Accidental damage cover which includes burn in protection for 5yrs for £140. Not bought the cover yet as I got 60 days after TV purchase to buy it.
Hi cannot decide to which one to get the x95j or the a80j… mainly be using it for movies normal TV Netflix a little bit of PlayStation PlayStation…. The room during the day lets a nice bit of light and I want to be able to see the TV properly which one should I go for… mainly will be watching it early evenings and late evenings with ambient light around the room
Hello there. I bought the model A83J 65", and a day after i noticed that the panel of the tv is bended on left and right sides, it is bended backwards. My question is it suppose to be like that or it is an issue and i need to claim that this tv will be replaced for another one for me? Thank you.
Realize this is reaching back into the past. If I’m not already in the Sonos ecosystem, would the Sony HT-A5000 + sub be a better fit for an AJ80 than an Arc + sub? Not sure how much weight should be put into the TV as a center channel. Many thanks and appreciate all the great content!
Hello Thank you for detailed review. I have couple of questions. I was going to buy Samsung QN90a however, in my country, it comes with ADS(IPS) panel. I just bought LG C1 and thinking about refund and go for Sony A80J after watching several reviews because I mostly will be watching movies, serials. My questions are: 1) Does sony dims the entire screen if a channel logo is bright, just like you mention for game HUDs? 2) Everyone says Sony has better shadow detail and HDR brightness due to XR processor, does it really make noticable difference? 3) How badly it affects the picture quality of Sony as it makes brighter but less quality shadow detail? They say LG has dimmer but better quality shadow detail. Will it be so disturbing on Sony? 3) Does LG look better than Sony on the motion if it is 24p movie which I heard that LG perform better? 4) I dont have professional calibrated in my city. Is it a reason to eliminate LG? Can I calibrate it with the settings and manuals on internet by myself? 5) I mostly watch Netflix etc. Is Sony better for movies for sure? Any disadvantage compared to LG for movies ?
Thanks for the review. It’s helped me make the decision to get one. I still have a 40” Sony Bravia that’s 20 years old and still works perfectly! But it is time for an upgrade 😊
Bought to replace our KD55XF9005 which we though was an excellent full array backlit. Best LED picture we’ve seen until the backlit array failed after just 4 years! Risking an OLED hoping it lasts longer….this is the best review yet on the A80J👍
Playing with the settings is a large part of teh fun with modern tv's. I remember the days when the only things you could change were the horizontal and vertical hold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks for this most excellent review. I've just actually bought this exact Sony because of it! Had it delivered just today actually. I even took notes of 'Jonathon's Settings' so that i could match mine to it!... But i do find that sound wise, i'm not exactly blown away by the sound on this Sony tv. I didn't buy speakers so that i could do exactly as you said, and try it out first. I've tried various settings for all modes, but still find that i think i'm going to need a soundbar or speakers to enhance ( listen to me pretending that i have the faintest idea what i'm talking about when i reeeeely don't!). I wish that you had listed your sound settings too. So, please may i ask what you would advise. Soundbar or speakers? and - as i'm a complete technophobe - could you just be VERY specific as to which one and what make you would recommend... Pretty please?? Thank you so much. Gilly.
Hey Gilly, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking to purchase this TV model tomorrow (because of this review and other comments I've seen elsewhere online) and I'm also looking to try out the Sonos Beam Compact Smart Soundbar in store. I haven't done a full deep dive into reviews yet. But that's my initial thinking right now. Aside from that, I might be tempted to keep it all in the Sony family and perhaps go with the HTA3000 Soundbar instead. I know this doesn't answer your question, but these are my thoughts right now.
@@Mal0wens Hi Mal, I do find that the picture quality on this tv is utterly faultless. However as I said, and I don't know if its just me, but i don't feel the sound is actually a great deal different from the 10 year old LG tv that I just replaced! 🤷♀️ A tad depressing one might say! So, would you do me a favour Mal.. If in fact you do decide to go with this Sony, would you kindly let me know your thoughts on the basic sound at set up, and then if you feel the soundbar makes a marked difference once installed?? Then, if you're massively impressed - with your permission i may just pinch yr idea 😄 and get the same soundbar... Looking forward to hearing your thoughts Mal. Happy shopping!!..
@@gillianatkinson6858 No trouble at all. I didn’t make it to the store today but I’ve cleared the schedule for tomorrow as I reckon I’ll be there a while testing and looking and listening. I’ll let you know!
Also, after much RUclips watching, I’m seriously looking at the Bose 600 soundbar now. All reviews are saying it’s best for a smaller lounge room setup which we have, but most impressively, the clarity in dialogue is fabulous. They also comment that it’s extremely balance in term of eq, so there’s great bass (not huge, though an additional bass module call be added…the Bose Bass 500), great mids and clean highs. So I’ll see if there’s a demo unit on the floor to test out and let you know.
got mine today it's quite breathtaking! BUT no ITV Hub, BBC iPlayer or All 4 in the UK is quite a dissapointment that no reviewer has even mentioned???
There are now 3 types of A80J's, The A80J, A83J, A84J. The only difference that I have been able to find between the A80J, and the A83J/A84J is that the A83J/A84J have a microphone for GoogleAssist (which can be turned off) and have a Rich Colour Enhancer feature. I would really like to know a couple of things about these three tv's 1. Are there more differences between the three TV's? 2. What does the Rich Colour Enhancer feature do? (Can this be shown in a video?) 3. Does this Rich Colour Enhancer feature give a great/big benifit picture wise over the A80J which doesnt have this feature? 4. Is there a difference in performance between the three TV's? 5. Which of these three TV's should one get? The A80J (because its the origional TV which everyone has tested?) or the A83J/A84J because these have extra features (more bang for buck?)
Thanks for the comment. We get this question a lot and essentially all three models will have exactly the same panel. The difference normally is a different remote or feet etc. The colour enhancer will be available on the other models, it may just be under a different function name. The main reason for this is to give big stores an exclusive model for you to go to their store & not to price match etc. Ultimately is just makes it very confusing for the customer and I would go for the model that you can find the cheapest. Hope this helps.
3:18... so the real question is... what picture was the original intent/content? Bright, perfect greens or a variety of green/yellows/browns? The pictures look profoundly different but the "better" one is the more accurate one, no?
Great Complete Review that gives me information on that I can understand and Use to make a buying decision - Thank You. I will be watching more of Your Reviews.
Would be nice if you had an in depth LG C1 vs A80J comparison. Others have pointed out that the Sony screen is more reflective and would show more glare than the LG, which is probably an important factor in a real world room situation. What is unclear is if that is across the line on all sizes or if the Sony is only reflective on the smaller sizes than the bigger ones.
I’d buy the 65” A90J if it had more HDMI 2.1 ports. Only 2 with one of them being earc is a huge NO for the price. I’ll have to see what they offer next year, this is a big let down smh. They also need to address the gaming firmware update. I’m not buying based on promises but what it offers NOW. Fingers crossed 2022 models will be perfect.
Do you really need those extra ports? And will vrr really make a noticeable difference? Or are you just trying to point out some negatives just because they're negatives. Will they actually affect you?
Could anyone tell me please if my connections are OK? HDMI 4 (Enhanced Dolby Vision) - Blu ray 4k Dolby Vision. HDMI 3 eArc (Standard) - soundbar. HDMI 2 (Standard) - Nintendo Switch. The soundbar is connected to the TV via earc, Nintendo Switch + Blu ray player are also connected to the TV. Thanks.
I just bought this tv, but am waiting until Christmas to open the box. If it is half as good as this review and others claim, I am sure to enjoy it. My current tv is 14 years old.
I bought the A80J last month, brilliant TV, great picture and responds to action so quick. I ordered the backlit remote from England, came in yesterday and excellent quality remote am happy with the set-up. My kids will probably destroy the new remote but such is life. The brightness could be a bit better but apart from that it's a great TV.
@@UziGameGP not true look at a C8 or C9 I have a C8, a Samsung led and now a A80j and my dad has a C9 these two lg C8 C9 are every bit as bright as an led. I can’t say the same for this very disappointing Sony
@@michaelkreisel3573 i have had C8, CX, C1and A80J and none of them can get as bright as a high tier LED (or QLED). It's the "downside" of OLED, I think it's subjective though as I don't care much about brightness because contrast is more important. A80J and C1 are on the same level.
What depth is that tv unit ? I’ve just bought this tv and soundbar and can’t find one deep enough for both with the Arc being wider than the tv stand and having to sit in front rather than in between !
Jonathan, I can’t say enough about the excellent reviews! You are the best! I truly hope the firmware update has or will occur with the A80J since I’m just purchased in early 2023. Love your review because the are so straight forward, detailed, and easy to understand!!👍🏽😘. I’m old school, so not sure whether I’ll use most of these features, but good to know. @@smarthomesounds You are the best reviewer I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing the information regarding the firmware update. My A80J will be delivered and set up this week and looking forward to it! Thanks again for the helpful videos!
Really not sure if the firmware update fixed the gaming experience. But I think the update included VRR support, so if this has anything to do with gaming hopefully it did. Not much of a gamer myself.
I bought the 55 inch and I’ve owned this for over a week now and my eyes just can’t get used to it. It hurts to watch. I sit 8ft away so I don’t think it’s the the same. I’ve turned the brightness all the way down… will I get used to this? It’s giving me tension headaches.
Have you tried some of the different picture modes? I had a similar problem with my new Panasonic JZ1500 but found using Filmaker picture setting helped.

What is the depth of your TV table to accommodate the A80J legs with the Sonos Arc placed in front? It seems you would need at least 45cm of table depth
4:10 Please at least show us TVs in sound bar position in future. It definitely looks like it’s encroaching on the display real estate to me and it was the first thing I noticed. 🙃 I often check measurements on the manufacturer’s site before making a purchase decision but this can be a pain.

Hi Dan, some retailers such as Currys have exclusive models but are almost identical. There's usually one feature that is different. It is unclear why this is the case but you may wish to check with your retailer what the exact difference is. The A80J is the most widely known model. I hope that helps in some way!
Great video review! Can this TV play video files from an external usb drive? Also is it possible to turn off or reduce the motion as well? I prefer to watch movies with more motion blur over the higher frame rate/TV studio look that some TVs apply. Thanks!
Yes you can play content from external drive. I assume you were asking about disabling motion smoothing? There is a 4 step (including disabled) control to do that, you can also enable or disable black frame insertion. You can set it up as you want it.
why ?? you can connect the soundbar to the earc and conect ps5 to the other 2.1 and sellect tv speakers as output in the ps5 settings and it will automaticaly use the soundbar
I thought only the A80J comes in 77” and the A90J is 65” and 83”. Is this correct? Coming from a 2012 65” Panasonic Plasma, I want a 77” so I guess the A90J is out and i have to decide between the C1 and A80J. I watch movies, TV shows and lots of sports especially hockey. I also have cable as a source. Which of these two TVs would be best?
Hi there, yes only the A80J comes in a 77" size. Out of the LG C1 and A80J, it's a close call. I would say the LG is better for gamers due to the extra capabilities but if you're just watching movies, TV shows and sports, I would tend to favour the Sony due to the slightly more accurate and realistic picture. I hope this helps!
Tough decision but if you you have the budget the A90j is the superior TV which you will notice. That being said you will not be disappointed with the A80j. Good luck 👍
I have this tv. Is there a way turning off the base for late night viewing? I can only adjust the equalizer but, even with that set to the lowest the bass is still very high.
I’m interested in purchasing this TV. I was wondering if I would need a separate streaming device or if the TV operating system itself handles that just fine? Thank you.
@@smarthomesounds thank you. It’s not really the amount of apps I’m concerned about. It’s whether or not it would run smoothly or have lag. I’ve heard some people suggest it would run more smoothly with the separate hardware of a streaming device. Let me know if you would please. Thank you again.
@@michaelpalermo9278 I don't have this TV, I have the LG C1 and a Chromecast with Google TV. I can tell you that my LG interface is just as fast as my Chromecast, and my guess is the Sony would be just as fast as the LG.
Thank you
All warehouse clubs like Sam's and Costco have the C in their model. Its just their warehouse model is all. There are no added or missing features.

Bought the 77 inch. It is unbelievable. The picture accuracy is something you need to see in person

I couldn’t be more disappointed. Comparing my 65 C8 to my new 77 A80J there really isn’t any comparison.

Its insane how much price came down in one year. I just bought a brand new 65" a80K, the newer version, for $1700 all in out the door.
Sony a80j, x95j, or Samsung Qn90a?
Hello
Thank you for detailed review.
I have couple of questions.
I was going to buy Samsung QN90a however, in my country, it comes with ADS(IPS) panel.
I just bought LG C1 and thinking about refund and go for Sony A80J after watching several reviews because I mostly will be watching movies, serials.
My questions are:
1) Does sony dims the entire screen if a channel logo is bright, just like you mention for game HUDs?
That's your idea of a "couple"? lol!
Is this tv superior to A9G?
Far off question, is this A80J already better than 2018 model Panasonic FZ950/1000??
Most thorough breakdown of functions, especially the sounds.
Is it? Does it have 120hz supported?
@@Mal0wens
Hi Mal, I do find that the picture quality on this tv is utterly faultless.
However as I said, and I don't know if its just me, but i don't feel the sound is actually a great deal different from the 10 year old LG tv that I just replaced! 🤷♀️
A tad depressing one might say!

I would really like to know a couple of things about these three tv's
1. Are there more differences between the three TV's?
2. What does the Rich Colour Enhancer feature do? (Can this be shown in a video?)

Unless it's next to the other TV, you'll never know the difference.

Yes you can play content from external drive. I assume you were asking about disabling motion smoothing? There is a 4 step (including disabled) control to do that, you can also enable or disable black frame insertion. You can set it up as you want it.

I may just pop in branch & enquire about the difference.
It looked great in store so heres hoping it'll look great at home once it arrives 🙌
@@shaunwilson9960 I think the A84J is pretty much the same as the A80J except that it also has direct voice commands functionality without pressing the mic on the controller. I think it also has a colour enhancer feature too which the A80J doesn't have.
Is it correct that you cannot get BBC iplayer or ITV Hub on this TV?
Hi Andrew, this has now been rolled out to Sony 2021 TVs via a firmware update :)
I'm getting the 55" for 871 gbp in Denmark 👌
When is x95j coming and how much for 85 inch thank you
In my county 4600 euro
A90J Cost here 2600 euro for 55" 3700 euro for 65" and 8000 euro for 83"
I do hope that all of the Sony 2021 models have an ATSC 3.0 / NEXT Gen DTV tuner for over air reception of 4K video where available? If any model you review does not have it, please mention.
43 mbps is if u used the bravia core or the tv itself?
Bravia core
