I drove to SF from Vegas with my best friend to watch a Marlon Craft show back in '19. I got the meet and greet tickets so I can meet up with Marlon after and whatever. After the show we got brought up to meet Marlon and he was mad cool. We take a pic with him, talk some Knicks, and he goes "wanna take a picture with Dante?". Now, Dante Ross to me was always a goat in the sense that I knew what he meant to the golden era of hip hop. I just never knew what the fuck he looked like cuz I literally always read about him, and his importance, but he's kinda a low key dude. He's not like Puff and them. So when Marlon asked me, I was like "Dante Ross???". He's like "yeah". At that point, in my head, I didn't wanna seem starstruck, but I was like "holy shit". Anyways, Dante came up, was mad cool, and took a pic with me and my best friend who next year committed suicide during the pandemic. It's a pic I keep with me on my office desk at all times. Thank you for that moment, Dante.
As a white Hip Hop head from Jamaica Queens who has been part of the culture for 40 years, me being a graffiti writer Dante is a name i have known snd respected all these years im suprised he didnt mention 3rd Bass
If you get the the book- he has very little time for MC Serch; he produced Pop Goes the Weasel- but Ross claims he never got a royalty check for it- despite it selling very well..
Yeah I mean..not knowing anything about their relationship in particular, and Serch does have some epic stories, but his attitude has always seemed a little suspect to me.
Yo I can't find the book he mentioned at 18:25, "The Power of Positive Thought". I can only find anything on "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. Anyone know if that's what he meant? Bc I definitely could use a book like that.
I love hearing catts before my time talk about hip hop!
I flew through the book in a few days. It's really good. Caz at the end was a dope surprise too.
Legend 👑 💯
Dante has lived one Helluva Hip Hop Life...
