I feel like people don’t realize that even with simple stop activated, you can still stop the old regular way. Doesn’t matter. So I leave simple stop on. And I can do whichever I want. I’m not great at going in the reverse direction yet anyway.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I like that FM added simple stop as a beginner-friendly tool. The biggest hurdle is getting off the board for new people I offer to try out the Onewheel.
I love how dedicated your daughter is. Your OneWheel training videos are awesome and super helpful. Perhaps your next video is on your mad parenting skills?
I just got my XR and simple stop would have helped me with dismounts the first day. However, after I figured out how to dismount normally via heel lift or jump, Id probably prefer those methods.
My two older kids (age 11 and 9). Don't like Simple Stop at all. I bought the Pint specifically with them in mind to join me on rides in the future since there are few other onewheelers in my area. My daughter's have never ridden my onewheels by themselves. Before I got them the Pint they only rode with me on the board at slow speeds. I've been training my girls on a large cut-grassy area to be more forgiving on crashes (both them and the Onewheel) After 3 rides on the grass I'm ready to graduate them to an empty church parking lot next time we go out. They might change their minds about simple stop on asphalt, but somehow I doubt it. I was surprised they didn't like Simple Stop. A coworker of mine (experienced with other boards) didn't like it either. So far 3 for 3. I still like the option and idea, but it's not for everyone, even some kids as fist-timers like my daughters. I got a lot of training ahead of me still, but so far so good. Both are stoked and teaching them has helped open my eyes to a few things
Great job jim, Future Motion better see what a good job you are doing and take you back as their spokes model😉did they ever forgive you? You see even you think there will be another XR coming out.....👍👍

Hi Jimmy! I just got my pint yesterday, I'm having a hard time with turning left and right. I'm afraid to lose my balance when turning. Any thoughts you would share with people? I watched pretty much all the videos and just subscribed your channel. You are doing a great job.
@@freshlycharged Good advice. Also, wear as many safety gears as possible (i.e., helmets, wrist guards, knee protection, elbow, protection, high top skating shoes, etc). The safety gears will take away the fear of getting hurt so you can focus on just riding.
Teaching my daughters (9 and 11). Been teaching them turning, dismounting, and other basics on cut grass area. Grass softens crashes and is less intimidating. The softness of grass is different for turning on. In some ways easier and other ways more wobbly. Hold your lead/front arm straight out and point it in the direction you wish to travel. My girls call it "compass position.". Pointing to where you want to go helps to remind you to keep your eyes up and look where you want to go... Also Important, "Compass Position" helps point your lead shoulder in the direction of travel. Your body will very naturally lean in the correct directions and angles to complete your turns when your shoulders are in good position. Bend your knees a little to absorb any bumps. Practice riding in figure 8s so you practice heel-side and toe-side turns (left and right). And dismounting. Finally, do all this with your opposite foot in front, going the opposite direction. Being able to ride both directions will make you stronger rider. Sometimes, riding the opposite direction will open your eyes to things and actions you didn't notice before that you can incorporate into your regular stance and direction of travel.
Once you get a little more comfortable, loosen your ankles and let the board do the work for you. As mentioned, look where you want to go; the board will go that way.

Hi Jimmy I got my pint Monday. I have questions and I need advice. I noticed my pint nosedives when I turn when accelerating. I’m around 220 pounds 5 feet 10 inches. My feet are also a bit too big for the pint as well. I’m size 14.5. I got the hang of riding and getting off but turning around in my parking lot is hard due to me being a big boy and I crashed hard when I was accelerating and nosedived turning like the usual (was sent to ER because my helmet wasn’t on because it’s too small for my head) lol. Is there anything I could do to turn more safely and where should I keep my footing on since my feet hang off. I tried centering them but when I turn my feet slide off causing me to hurt my ankles so I’m unsure if it’ll be safe for me to continue when I’m back from bed rest (3weeks doctors told me). Thank you if you’re reading this. You’re my hero and my reason to keep riding.
Check out The Float Life. It's worth it to get some rail guards and float plates to protect that investment if you're worried about dings and scratches.
