To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he's doing is good... Ideology - that is what gives devil-doing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others' eyes, so that he won't hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors.
Evil people always support each other; that is their chief strength. --- Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

One thing I’ll add. We as Adventists have long anticipated the Sabbath issue coming to the forefront at the end of time. Just an observation here, but what is the significance of the Sabbath? “For in six days the LORD created the heavens and the earth.” The Sabbath is the memorial to God’s identity as The Creator and worthiness of worship (Revelation 4:11). As such, it is God who, like Vine mentions here, establishes the distinctions between earth and sky, male and female, and so on. In Acts 17:22-29, Paul, when addressing the Athenians, distinguishes the true God from all the others by identifying Him as the Creator, which is what the Sabbath is all about. I guess the point of what I’m saying is that we as Adventists, in preaching the 3 Angels Message, area pointing people to the one true God and that is why the Sabbath will be such a hotly contested issue - for it proclaims God’s legitimate right to our worship and identifies Him as the only Sovereign of the universe. Hence also why authoritarian regimes and much of the world that has rejected God make a special point of forcing kids to attend class on the Sabbath. To turn kids away from the Creator.

--- Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Rod Dreyer also wrote a recent book (post-Covid) with the same title - inspired by Solzhenitsyn. There is another book called the Psychology of Totalitarianism by another author.
