This comparison brought to light a Industry secret, that the media, manufacturers and dealers do not like the public to know. There is very little meaningful differences between bikes of two decades ago and today. The fact is if you could uncrate a new 1997 YZ 250 it would run comparable lap times with any of these bike’s . As a matter of a fact with some mods it would be a better bike the the current YX 250 because the steel frame was superior to the current aluminum frame. I was a dealer during the marketing ploy of 4 strokes and aluminum frames and it was nothing but that, marketing. Props the team blue for beating the red team to the punch.

I have to admit that i am a YAMAHA guy but i have to admit that i was really close to sell my YZ for a TM. I haven't ridden the 250 but i am pretty sure that it will awesome too
it seems a little ironic to me that Yamaha who was the first major manufacturer to produce a competitive 4 stroke race bike and started that revolution is now the only Japanese brand to still make a 2 stroke MX bike.
Is it just me or did the Yamaha look visibly more under control than the others. Watch the video and see if you ever see the YZ do anything funny. See if you can find any of the others whose front end doesn’t dance around multiple times. Smoother more tractable power and predictable handling. I think this bike gets penalized more for perception than reality of what most folks could go faster on. I’ve owned 5 KTMs and 5 Yamahas over the years. I switched back to blue from orange this year for these two reasons. Don’t hate them just because they perfected the no frills 2-stroke 15 years ago.

I’d still get the YZ. Being that it’s Japanese, I’d bet the manufacturing is second to none. The Italians make beautiful things...that break often. As for KTM and Husky, unfortunately they’re manufacturing more and more in china. That alone worries me.

Better suspension and more reliable...
I have to admit though that TM is a beauty.
TM would be my second choice
The same thoughts.
@@LikeAPetrol for me YZ250 is the gold standard.
The fact that is easy to ride is very important.
Besides that it give you so much confidence, its much better when the track is not perfect.
More forgiving and more safe.
When i feel confident and safe(as safe as i can be with motocross 😝) i can go faster
@@andreasstefanou5898 Absolutely. My KTM 250SX'2014 scares me sometimes.
@@LikeAPetrol my best mate have a tm 300 2 stroke.
That bike is so much powerful but the same time soooo easy to ride
Very predictable....
Like a 4 stroke.
I would also go with TM any day of the week.
Power is nothing without control....
Linear power is a key to go fast
I am 56 years old and have not ridden in 17 years. Picking up a very slightly used 2019 YZ250 tomorrow, (can't find a new one in any year, no dealer has them). I don't think everything I love about the USA is going to last much longer. I am going to live my USA while I still can.
Came here for the sound of my childhood.
Iv'e ridden all those bikes and the TM followed by the YZ are the pick of the bunch, they out handled the other 2 , much better suspension and torquier motors.
I'm absolutely crazy about 2 stroke bikes. The powerban sends you to 7th heaven
climbing the stairway!
Show up to any track and all the four strokers stop to listen 😆✌️
I'm a simple guy...I see two stroke MX bikes -> *click*
Cool showing the deffertent charateristics, none of them is not good or has issues, every bike seems to be refined in its way. And the sound of a 250 two stroke is just wonderful 💖
Bummer that Suzuki gave up the RM 125/250
I think the last gens, K6/K7/K8 RM 250s were really solid bikes everyone would like to have around.
I'd go YZ
Id go tm if i had the money
What oil and mixture are they running didn't see 1 puff of smoke?
the sound gave an ear to ear smile!!!
Its a damn shame there are only 4 of these out there..
AMA sold out to the top 4-stroke manufactures, like the Rock Sold out to Hollywood.
Facts lol
I'd love to see Honda bring back the cr 2 strokes 💙💯
Those KTMs look great.
Keep The Money, buy something else
Just turned 40 and decided to ride again used to ride a lot yz 80 then 125 for a bit. Put depo on new yz125 but worried I shpuld have gotten the 250 as I am a but over weight now at 220lb. Intend on shedding down to 190. Any thoughts ? And please be kind as im just an oldan trying to get back into shape and miss ridong big time
I had a 1999 TM125. What a fucking machine that thing was for its time. I can only imagine this 2020 250 must be insane.
About time guys sx motocross should be souly 2 strokes so much pure action fun excitement sound feel everything
Tm is basically handmade it’s very impressive😳
Please, Please do an 85 2 stroke shootout
I prefer 4 strokes but I’m just happy that these manufacturers are still making these beasts
What are yea bout 70 years l old , old man ..so what the hell do you know...( you know everything that Yoshimura knew ..who taught me everything I know ..) I'm now age 70 .
.in my 20's when I met "pop" Yoshimura and we were building CR125R and CR250R,
Great test guys!
Could you elaborate on why the tm finished last? Motor suspension? Just that it is heavy and have a weird feel?
I had the opportunity to ride TM 125 and TM 300 2 stroke and 300 4 stroke.
I can asure you that TM are AMAZING.
Especially the 2 strokes.
I liked them much better than KTM's.
I have to admit that i am a YAMAHA guy but i have to admit that i was really close to sell my YZ for a TM.
I haven't ridden the 250 but i am pretty sure that it will awesome too
Just because they don’t pay them.
@@GoProBlizzard Ecactly what I was going to say. The smaller company's have less money to dish out.
Very happy 2 stokes back they r a lot more fun when RACING 🖒🤘👍🤘☇☇😁💣🔥💥🔝☠☠
it seems a little ironic to me that Yamaha who was the first major manufacturer to produce a competitive 4 stroke race bike and started that revolution is now the only Japanese brand to still make a 2 stroke MX bike.
The captions are so accurate because it says music every time the bikes are ripping
Hey Suzuki... where is your 2-stroke RM??? Hint Hint... C'mon...
great video. Love the sound these bikes make. I have the 2021 KTM 300 xc-w and it is an amazing bike. Best purchase I ever made
A new kx and cr 250 would be a dream come true. People would definitely buy them, including me
Is it just me or did the Yamaha look visibly more under control than the others.
Its definitely way more planted with that extra weight and more of a low end powerband
Been waiting for this!!!
Yz is the og, the rest seem out of place
Back in the day it was all CR. Imo but I got love for every brand. Those 90' kx's
Were the coolest looking bikes ever!
TM Gets 4th under Yamaha? The only valid reason is weight. So the added horsepower means nothing?
That husky with the 1980s livery on it like back in the day they were never contenders I like to see him on top now they make a God damn good chainsaw
What’s the point of the double intro with re-used shots?
Still riding my 07 YZ250 and loving it.
Yamaha needs to put the yz250 motor in the yz250f frame and put e start on the yz250x
Haven't ridden a dirt bike in anger since I was kid (AMA 125cc Motocross Expert License and then 250cc/350cc Road Race Experts license) in the mid 70's...who/what is TM? p.s. I beat Jeff Ward twice the only two times we ever raced.
I steal love the 2018's model.
The other video
I’d still get the YZ. Being that it’s Japanese, I’d bet the manufacturing is second to none. The Italians make beautiful things...that break often. As for KTM and Husky, unfortunately they’re manufacturing more and more in china. That alone worries me.
@@paolopaletti2738 I absolutely agree. My old Italian husky 4-stroke has been absolutely flawless. A friend of mine has a Italian Husqvarna WR125 that is clearly better than my KTM.
@@paolopaletti2738 It reminds me of a recent comparison test done in this magazine. The beta 500 dual sport finished first or second in every single category and then they went and declared the KTM the winner.
Damn this makes me want to ride so bad.
This also makes me want a 250 2 stroke 😭
7:15. 20 years after its initial design? It hasn't changed since 2006!
Ok, what is the best type of it that has been ruined by a few? 250 cc and what is its price? What is the type of desert bears / follow you from Saudi Arabia🇸🇦😊
Come on Suzuki where’s the new RM those things just sound awesome! I’m sure they would sell more smokers then thumpers
just my 2 cents🤷🏼♂️
RMs are dope bikes can easily go up against a YZ without any issued
Finally a tm
We all might like different manufacturers but at least we all are still riding 2 strokes!
84 IT 200 was my last dirt bike.. It rolled along pretty well.. Nothin like a hot 2cycle. If you can ride a good 2 cycle, then 4sroke is cake... Like gettin cruise control for the first time.
You have never motocrossed a four stroke as they are no piece a cake..front end always wants to push and wash out
..with two stroke the handle bars are floating and you steer with the throttle ...a four stroke will wear your ass down in a hurry ..I raced bought for over 20 years
I mean..what about suspension? Hp? Prices? Guess i gotta go check other shootouts for that?
I'd kill to bring back the CR250
Nice shootout! Does Gas Gas have one? Their 4-strokes are killing it in the GP's this year. Contender for sure.
ngh yes owned by ktm for a year now.
We ride bikes for thrills right. Which one wraps it on?
Dont sherco make a 250 smoker ?
Not a motocrosser
250 2 strokes sound the BEST when shredding against each other
It's a shame that not all companies sell the 2 stroke mx bike anymore.
For the 2021 2 stroke shootout you need to add the gasgas 250 tp the fleet along with other manufactors like sherco and beta to widen the field
Does sherco and beta even make motocross bikes?
I would love to own a two stroke. It's on my list
I own an 07 yz250 basically stock apart from an 18 in rear wheel and a gytr shorty pipe. It's the best bike I've ever owned. But i wouldnt mind one of those TM's :)
Yamaha for the win, best bike for anyone who is not a pro, which is most if us lol
I’m gonna buy another new YZ250. Support the bike!
