Keep those tests coming. Right now I can't decide between Surface laptop studio and MBP16

Im running a handbrake on my new base model 14" MBP to reduce size of 1080p h.264 using h.265. Video toolbox on the current version is super fast however it does not provide the same quality of a software encode using the CPU cores which is kinda disappointing.

many thanks! Would like to see a surface laptop studio vs. MacBook Pro comparisson incl battery life, fan noise, real life use etc.

Will do. MacBook wins hands down in battery life and fan noise but surface laptop is good compared to many windows laptops. Battery life is mediocre.

You can do a lot faster now with the new beta handbrake. They have implemented the toolbox availability.

I might have missed which specs of both laptops you have. Could you put them in the description?

Surface laptop studio hardware is a joke. Who puts a quad core on a professional device in 2021? There are 16 core laptops that cost less than the Surface Laptop Studio
Of note, in all of my testing, switching encoders in handbrake REQUIRES CPU transcoding.
I ended up dedicating a 3950x, to transcode my TV recordings from MPEG2 to H265. clocked to 3.5Ghz to keep it around 80W
IF you use ANY hardware encoder, from VideoToolBox by Apple, to NVENC, VCE, and QSV you will have either worse quality than CPU, or you will have dramatically larger file sizes compared to CPU. For Me my M1 with Video Toolbox did the best, being only 50% larger than CPU(doesnt matter what CPU, Intel, AMD or Apple) The worst, by far, was NVENC on GTX 1650 and GTX 1070/1080 being 2x the original file size, and 5x the size of the CPU file

Yes, I've noticed the larger file sizes very annoying
