I reckon Studio D'Artisan shouldv'e been on there considering the massive impact on the denim and in turn workwear category. It was the first of the Osaka 5 which started a whole new perception of denim and the raw denim craze. Also, it could be argued that it was a big influence on the historical reproduction aspect to fashion as well considering the rest of the Osaka 5. From the design perspective itself, they make some crazy and genuinely beautiful clothes that are also somehow easy to wear. Just my 2 cents
out of all the designer/streetwear brands ive seen, theres something about mastermind japan that has kept me hooked for years. i discovered it in 2017 and instantly fell in love w the aesthetic and exclusivity of it. its honestly the only high end brand id consider paying retail for.
I can certainly tell by the way you breakdown fashion you understand the grand scheme on how fashion works and reflects culture, I’m def taking notes がんばりましたね !
would have put Bape lower, but it's impact on streetwear and introducing a lot of westerners to Japanese fashion definitely helps it earn its spot. and it's crazy to me how many comments are calling for Kapital. the brand is great but definitely hasn't made enough of a mark to replace anything on this list. I guess that's how the kids feel though. I appreciate the inclusion of dying oldies like Mastermind, N(N), and NBHD. thumbs up to the list overall!
Great list & I defo think Rei should be in first place! It is even more impressive, considering how she faced intersecting barriers to reaching global fashion superstardom as both a woman and not-French/Italian. However, I would also say that Issey could be higher than #5. His stuff is not just pleats. The mainline & menswear line (currently discontinued) were highly revolutionary in the 1980s and 1990s. He also helped the career of many designers, such as Tsumori Chisato and Kosuke Tsumura. Personally, I would include Tsumura's Final Home in the top 10, because it laid the foundation for the rise of tech wear and, later, gorpcore in the West, even if the brand itself is v underground.
Hirofumi Kiyonaga’s soph/rbfc/UE family may have been worth an honourable mention (though I do recall briefly seeing some headline recently that he will be leaving!?!?) I would put them on the same level as wtaps. Good list, I had a good chuckle on your Visvim comment$ lol :) all too real.
I have a random question but a long while ago I happened upon some videos that was all in Japanese but it was soooo fun to watch, of small Japanese Mens stores with beautiful americana clothing inside, but since it’s in hiragana/kanji I can’t search for those videos on RUclips and find them. Any help? Lol
I get why Issey is lower than Bape but it doesn't feel right. For me my interest in Japanese fashion began with Issey, CdG and Kenzo way before Bape existed. I fully understand Bape's impact since then but the OGs to turn the world's attention to Japan were those three brands. For that reason I would have had Issey at three.
It was hard to be objective and not put my feelings too much into it. Issey, myself, is among the top but I had my arm tied because the list included “street” labels. Bape just killed and continues to while Issey is an old favorite among those who have been following Japanese fashion beyond the street labels.
@@THECASUALco yeah I totally agree on the street aspect... As you said in the video the whole interest in Japanese street fashion came from them. I just love what Issey has done over the years.. from a fashion design perspective only Issey tops Bape but overall for this topic I think you are probably right.
Btw, since you talk about Number nine in this top 10, what do you think about Takahiro Miyashita new brand : the Soloist ? Like, its design and quality ?
Not impactful enough globally, it’s good but Kapital has been supremely overrated due to its flavor of the month status. Love Kapital but it’s no where near as influential as any on this list.
Conceptual "label" that has very intense ideas and explores those ideas beyond just fashion. It's thoughtful work and requires more study to truly appreciate it.
In America we have Pantone ( color matching system ..) I just thought you might like to know that . Homie. The bapesta X sorayama are my favorite. So squishy, best work out Shoe , no injuries.
@@ShotsMerkzAll you’re shooting at the wrong guy, I’m more of a design nerd and I’m a lot more interested in clothes than I am ASAP Rocky. I just really think Kapital deserves a spot on this list for too many reasons to go into here, it’s consistent at producing interesting takes on Americana with Japanese techniques and has been a pioneer of a lot of ideas in Japanese fashion that have made a large impact in both Japan and the west.
While I agree Kapital is great, it’s impact is just not as much as the others. Which would be taken off the “ALL-TIME” list. In fact I’d put Evisu on before Kapital or even Studio D’Artisan. On the design front, personally, Kapital is great. A bit overrated but still great but it simply isn’t global enough to be considered among the best ever from Japan.
Great vid! When will you take us too the streets of Tokyo again and do some content out there? Love the channel keep it up!
May is gonna be great for you then.
Big w for Comme in the number 1 spot. Beside the design aspect, the comme's business strategy is lowkey one of the best in the industry.

Kapital, any yohji yamamoto brand +y3, ÇDG hands down are always my favorite Japanese designers!!!
Judging from historical and global impact I totally agree with the list!
Jun Takahashi is my inspiration. I discovered Undercover during high school circa late 2000s. Then, Yohji Yamamoto I respect so much.
i agree with the list, I kinda want to see Julius continue to grow its presence so that it can be an HM one of these days, cuz I love that brand
ASICS is extremely well-liked as well. It deserves at least an honourable mention…
I collected Yohji Yamamoto and Comme de Garçon. Those two play nice with my Jil Sander stuffs.
Aww NBHD is forever my fave Japanese brand. Since the 90s, I’ll never let go lol
What a great presenting !, what a talent! Wow 🤩
I can certainly tell by the way you breakdown fashion you understand the grand scheme on how fashion works and reflects culture, I’m def taking notes

Miyake has also very interesting shirts and sweaters. RIP Steve Jobs used to his iconic turtleneck sweater.

When I visit I’m going to the shop that sells work wear.
Human Made is my personal fav haha but awesome list!
fit is clean today 🙏🏿
I would say cav empt as a honorable mention but other than that great list Yohji always gonna be my favorite though
After living in Japan for 8 years they definitely have a “I don’t care what you think I’m going to wear what I want” mentality.
Could it be that I'm early? Damn. What's up Reggie! Love from Boston ♥♥♥
I hope to see final home up there some day
great list, very accurate

Did wtaps kind of fall off? Or have I just been out of the know?
Any videos with Japanese plus size men’s wear ?
Spot on
💯 % agree with this list!

Just getting into Japanese fashion. But how is kansai yamamoto not on here ? I read into him and he should be on here I think
I PERSONALLY CAME HERE.. JUST TO SEE WHERE HE PUT BAPE ON THE LIST 😂
good list but i think kapital should have been on the list too behind visvim

Why is Junya Watanabe not on the list?
Where’s roen ?

This is still relevant lol
Sony make a hifi tv console laptops
General research and And wander
Of all time tho? Great labels but low impact globally.
hmm... no love for Junya Watanabe?
One of my favorites BUT part of Comme
@@THECASUALco At least throw mans a mention in your Comme spiel. Poor guy. hah
In the original script he was but was cut for time.
did i skip something or did everyone just ignore KENZO
I can't afford those. Are Japanese paying so much for fashion? They look all so well dressed. I want to look as cool as them

I was pretty much screaming kapital the whole time

Korean wear are overrated. Japan is Paris in Asia
Really? Sorry, but I cannot agree you.
this guy speaks in an arrogant way
Sorry if you feel that way. It's not intended. I don't know what else to say but I'll try to be more inviting.
