  • I am an American classical pianist and writer. I specialize in music of the early 20th century, and my scholarship explores the foundations of culture, convention, and archetypes. As a passionate humanist, my curations and performances seek to put the humanities into practice.
My performance-demonstration, "The Archetype of Modern Man" is an example of this humanistic pursuit. This four-part series partners my performances of classical music with philosophical narrative. Each of the four parts in the series explores a distinct theme of the modern human condition.
My performances are balanced with multi-disciplinary collaborations with visual artists, philosophers, and chamber musicians.
In “The American Archetype,” I draw from my album and essay (The Americanist, July 2022, • the Americanist ) and add mediums to the discussion such as artwork by Norman Rockwell, poetry by Walt Whitman, and the essay “The American Temperament” by Alain Locke to augment my performance of Gershwin’s An American in Paris and William Grant Still’s Africa. I also include a new work by Stephen Webb, titled Dream (American).
I find the concert setting to be an excellent format for shared contemplation while engaging with a wide range of cultural expressions. I hope you and your community might feel that as well.
