It also depends on the how u want the control ( digital or mechanical) digital it’s a lil bit more expensive. But they goes around $13k-$14k

I blew the power head on my optimax 175 at 316 hours
Yes they were un reliable here in the LOWER YUKON in ALASKA none of them lasted to long 1 of my uncles 75 optimax 2 stroke didnt even last em 1 whole summer
Our 175 had over 1000hrs on it when we traded it in
@@Pretzil43 gaurantee you my dads 08 09 yamaha f90 tlr has more hrs and way more miles then your 175 has we use it every year for fishing berry picking to take us to our moose hunting spots seal hunting its beaten down but still runz

Don't wanna hurt any feelings here but the G2 Evinrude has the best torque, emissions by far, and fuel mileage going today. The jump by Mercury to 4 stroke is a little surprising since the Optimax 2 stroke is still less offensive than the Yamaha 4 stroke. We'll see how the new V8's perform but right now the old Optimax was playing 2nd fiddle to the G2. Funny how angular mercury made those coals, like they were almost copied. I wouldn't worry about Evinrude going bankrupt since BRP leads the jet ski and snow mobile markets and is second only to Polaris in UTV sales. #1 on the water might very well be the product of owning so many transoms. I have never owned a black motor but I won't say never will either, I do think they are good motors as I think they all are at this point and a 20 ft Nitro sure is a Hella cheaper than a Bass Cat or Ranger

This outboard sucks! I spent $50,000 on a boat with this outboard motor and less than ten hours later, without warning peeps, or default shut down the motor overheated and melted the wiring. The dealer says there’s nothing I can do, no warranty, no standing behind their product. So far $1000 in parts for a brand new motor. Never again! Buyer beware
How’s that possible. New motor warranty should not have cost you a penny.

That’s not what I said Daniel, Merc’s reputation from older models like the black max, EFI 2 stroke, optimax and verado is very poor. I’d still rate there new models 4th in reliability after Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki and I’d buy a E-tec or tohatsu before a Merc because there warranty is better.
colwk No I understand, I would deffinatly not buy a first generation verado, but I would buy a new merc in a heart beat because my 2003 90 carbed 2stroke base never broken down in me and I use it almost every weekend in the summer with only normal maintenance like lower unit oil and impellers
