Nothing else has gone wrong, needed servicing or worn out but I've only had it for 6 months. I'm looking forward to having to spend money on new tyres though. It's got Michelin Premacy 4s on the front, which are OK I suppose but some Chinese no-name tyres (at least I'd never heard of the manufacturer) on the back. There's something brilliant about bringing a car back from the dead. I mean imagine scrapping that car over a £2000 bill which 90% would do. Months wages for most people and just look at the car you get. Well done to SPR just shows that specialists really are just that.
Got it all sorted but there will always be other things going down on the car constantly so the bills will never stop. Just a money pit unless you throw fortunes at it to start. Even then no guarantee it won’t let you down like old cars do. Ya man said. Good Look
Let me put it this way, many dealers dont care and encourage bodging to hide problems long enough to get them off the forecourt. You can charge higher prices because you make sure they are up to scratch.
4.7Ohm resistor mod on the swirl flap motor for OM642 is very well documented and works very well. That engine was also used in Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD as well as many Merc models.
Circa £6k seems a deal. After all, the costs have been incurred at trade prices so a very decent car at a low final price which should last well. Well done for rescuing it!
Matt, just trying to help, I sometimes feel you flap a little when it comes to knackered turbochargers? I always think about mine on my diesel Vauxhall, I changed just the internals myself a couple of years ago with a kit from EBay for about £90 and it’s done about 20 thousand miles since including two trips to Poland loaded to the stops with a few of long hours driving through Germany at ridiculous continuous speeds with a couple of 140+mph blasts positively terrorising that turbo with no issues at all. Point is, don’t replace turbos at massive cost, just replace the moving parts for cheap. Give it some thought? All the best. 👍
I love Sam's videos. Though I will probably never touch a Mercedes as a result of him going through all the things wrong with them in his content. His SL video was eye opening. Was very tempted by one of those.
as they say its not what ya know but who ya know! ended up scrapping my merc coupe cos no garage round me knew wtf was wrong with it (same symptoms as here) marvellous!!!!
I love S Classes, the technology they come with is incredible. The problem is for the money this thing is "worth" now you can pick up a 7 or 8 year newer E class that has all the same technology (and sometimes more) and is just as quick with a 4 cylider diesel instead of the 320 CDI lump. You are looking for a very particular type of buyer for that car and they need to be ready to get hit with a bill that writes the car off at some point in the future becasue of the amount of different things that can break on them that will cost 2/3 of the cars value or more to replace.
Great content, as usual. I do however think the Camry will continue to exist long after the Merc & is a much better proposition than the S Class. I am genuinely surprised, last time I looked someone hadn't bagged the real HPA bargain of 2024.
Not a bad deal in my opinion. $5,500 for an S class, if the motor is good, is a very good purchase. Low purchase price and quality mechanics gave you a great value. I live in the US and own a 2006 s500 RWD, 197,000 miles on the odometer. This summer took it on a driving trip to Wyoming, drove through the countryside in Nebraska, which has many secondary roads, and let the car roll at 100 to 110 mph between towns, which were 30 to 40 miles apart. I've spent money to maintain the car, but I enjoy driving every chance I get. I've owned it since 2014, has no rust and has the m113 engine. I get between 22 to 26 miles per gallon. S classes are great cars, I love mine and the new ones should be even better. I watch the spr channel also.
Another immaculate restoration, Well done again Matt 🎉. Imho it will sell near asking price, simply because it has a very specific buyer and every issue has been documented and fixed with evidence ❤ Most of the planet could spend £2.5k on repairs, however would never achieve same level of results.
Gotta replace those wheel center caps! I've had shockingly good luck with the cheap no-name sets you can get off eBay. The oldest set is 5 years old and still looking great. I think I paid all of $20 USD for them too.
I'm with you on using specialists, I've had a couple of JDM import Toyotas which needed a specialist's knowledge to keep properly running. The nice thing about JDM cars is that they're usually rust free.
feel your pain! bought a c270 knew it had faults driving it home, engine and box in limp mode! put it into a merc specialist to be looked at,£1850 later perfect! on a £1200 car!!
6k seems fair to me Matt it looks expensive and a lot of car for 6k and I’ll always maintain that you do more than most in getting these cars ready for sale, MOT with no advisories, wheels done, service and all the other things you deem necessary to get it ready I know for sure that traders like yourself are few and far between good to catch up on the merc cheers Matt 👍

4.7Ohm resistor mod on the swirl flap motor for OM642 is very well documented and works very well. That engine was also used in Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD as well as many Merc models.
This video made me genuinely happy. Was a wee bit gutted after the last video on it. Well done man. 👍🏼
Thanks for saving that beautiful S Class
Circa £6k seems a deal. After all, the costs have been incurred at trade prices so a very decent car at a low final price which should last well. Well done for rescuing it!
"They say you live and learn, but I don't". Love it Matt.
Sam is merc guru as you say it pays to use a specialist. Glad you saved it
Well done SPR Sam! 👏👏👏
Watched SPR repairing this one and the SLK, great seeing both sides of the journey!
Enjoyed seeing you interacting with your supplier, great seeing the area,
Thanks for the upload, I love these S Class video’s. Keep up the great work, it’s greatly appreciated
I love Sam's videos. Though I will probably never touch a Mercedes as a result of him going through all the things wrong with them in his content.
His SL video was eye opening. Was very tempted by one of those.
He did a fantastic job. Best video ever.
The old Mercedes are just quality 😊 my wife and our daughter both have one 😊😊😊
This was the best looking car on every forecourt it graced.
And there was some proper competition.
as they say its not what ya know but who ya know! ended up scrapping my merc coupe cos no garage round me knew wtf was wrong with it (same symptoms as here) marvellous!!!!
Great job Matt, giving the car a new lease of life 😊
£5995 is a steal. Looks absolutely stunning.
Well, steal it then.
@@rafflesnh 😂😂😂
Great content, as usual.
I do however think the Camry will continue to exist long after the Merc & is a much better proposition than the S Class.
I am genuinely surprised, last time I looked someone hadn't bagged the real HPA bargain of 2024.
Just seen video of all the work SPR Autos did, on their channel. £2006 was a steal!
I'm buying a nice car from you when my company car goes. That Merc is superb Matt
So nice to hear a dealer being so transparent, excellent car for £5995
SPR are magicians! Such a complex machine! Prefer 280TE estate……. A real benz @ their best!!
Love the video and SPR to match ....Smashing car too !
Another immaculate restoration, Well done again Matt 🎉.
Imho it will sell near asking price, simply because it has a very specific buyer and every issue has been documented and fixed with evidence ❤
Most of the planet could spend £2.5k on repairs, however would never achieve same level of results.
Gotta replace those wheel center caps! I've had shockingly good luck with the cheap no-name sets you can get off eBay. The oldest set is 5 years old and still looking great. I think I paid all of $20 USD for them too.
Excellent video. Thanks Matt
PS your new Range Rover is unbelievable! Looking forward to a full review
Glad you saved S-Class
And even though you massively overspent but that happy face you had as you drove of from SPR was priceless
Lovely car luxury for bargain money keep up the good work Matt great honest videos.
Love it when you do the luxury old barges Matt. £5,995 spot on I think.
On the continent a 5k S-Class is crashed and has a piano dropped on its roof
Nice car, good job on saving it, someone will enjoy it
Looks like a 6 grand car to me Matt! ❤ As you said a personalised number plate and only someone nerdy (like you 😂) would know it’s age 😀👍🏻 It’s a beautiful car 🤩
thanks for updating us matey. cheers
Matt your a petrol head throu and throu you enjoy cars and it's real passion for you to see a car worth saving saved so why worry lol keep doing what you love !!
Well sorted S-Class, nice one Matt, Overspend?, yes, but worth it.
