1:41 When you asked the trainer how he stays motivated and he said "honestly...I enjoy it". It looked like you were going to turn the computer off.
That's exactly what I thought too!
Looool exactly the same here
Same lmao I thought he was either CTRL+W'ing or hitting mute ahahaha

This. Yes.
"You can't always rely on willpower, sometimes you have to rely on habits instead." is SUCH a good quote.
You should read Atomic Habits. It'll change your life!
@@Jameeface i came here to say that too! I'm someones who hates the cliche of self help stuff, but atomic habits seriously changed my life. If you're looking to have better habits, break old ones or build new, this is THE book you'll ever need in all your life
That is indeed a really good quote and very useful.
This is absolutely true. Make things easy and approachable, and then also make yourself do it consistently enough to just get into the habit.
Side tip that has worked for me: Lots of things can be a workout! Don't feel like going to the gym? Do yoga at home. Don't feel like running? Play frisbee with friends. Mix it up. Golf, boxing, hiking, dance, anything. Shifting towards this mindset has made working out much more fun and less of a chore, and has allowed me to be consistent for the last 100+ days. Sure you may not progress as quickly at weightlifting, running, whatever, but you'll be more well-rounded and therefore possibly even more healthy!
so true! when i dont feel like doing bodyweight exercizes, i just go for a bicycle ride or for a loooong walk! yeah maybe im not really working on my abs that way but im staying healthy and thats the most important part!
I count things like dusting/vacuuming the entire house (usually takes about an hour and a half) as a workout and it kinda feels like I got a break from working out while still accomplishing something that needs to get done anyway. Win-win!
Garden work is also good. Raking, shifting heavy potted plants, building borders with bricks etc.
You won't be as healthy playing frisbee as someone who regularly runs 10 miles and lifts free weights. I get what you're saying but come on.
@@blzt3206 its not a competition
I love the idea of "maintaining" becoming something akin to brushing your teeth. I never thought exercise could be something like that - you do it because you should. I don't know, it just made the reason to exercise, like, 100 times simpler today. Thanks.
That one sticks with me as well.
I just came to the conclusion that it was non-negotiable for my mental health. If I don't exercise regularly, my overall life just gets a lot worse as a consequence.
Your body is a temple.
Clean the temple
And maintain it.
However in addition to this, there's something to be said for becoming stronger.
And for that you'll need to push parts limits. This doesn't mean increasing intensity, it's more of a philosophical thing.
In conclusion i think exercise should be done for maintenance but also for getting stronger.
@@stuckupcurlyguy So true!
I’ve gone from being that person who rolls out of bed 5 minutes before the start of my work day, to someone who wakes up (disgustingly) early to go and workout.
The benefits:
- My mind is less clouded.
- My daily anxiety level is way, way less (some days non existent)
- I’m more organised.
- I make clearer and more conscious decisions
-I eat healthier all week.
- I’m happier (therefore my relationships are better)
Even if you make a small change, moving your body and making it habit is the best thing you can do for your mind. ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
I'm in nursing school and one of the coolest thing I learned about exercise is that it increases the amount of glucose receptors on your muscles so when you exercise you take more sugar out of your blood, which is our body's favorite energy source to burn up, and this is what helps to prevent Type II Diabetes! Your muscles lower your blood sugar, so cool!
Thanks for sharing I love this little bit of info!
That's freakin cool.
cool but is not a excuse to not dieting or do nothing about it
Wow thank you for sharing this information!
After such a long time it often feels worse _not_ to work out compared to working out
and then when you dont do it for a month and look in the mirror.. you will be reminded why you started to work out to begin with. So its really easy to become motivated that way and keep that motivation going and understand that its either working out a few times each week, or simply die a painful death slowly
I can feel myself getting fatter if a I skip a day. Is depressing
@@serenitynow85 so true, I feel like jellyfish and get so mad at myself
Yup. That's where I am after two years. I don't train for results anymore. I train because I feel like shit if I don't.
Your content is so different from others in this category... it feels very grounded in reality rather than preachy-trying to sell something-aspirational-predicated on making the viewer feel bad. I have had negative attitudes towards exercise most of my life but this really spoke to me. And sounds like stuff I would tell my inner voice and would actually resonate. Thanks for posting this :)
I don't work out for my body, I work out for my mind. Once you realize how well you feel after a couple of weeks, you can't go back. The rest is consequence
Thats what happend with me as well. Started 8 years ago, never quit. Finally found a way to cope with daily annoyances...
100%
Does not work for me. I allways end up quitting after a few monthes of consistent training. And 6 monthes passes by and I am motivated again. Obviously no gains.
how about scientists and others that dont work out? how do you explain that?
Last summer I worked out for two months about 45 mins/day, 6 days/week, did light yoga on the 7th day. Never once did I feel better after a workout. Maybe kind of accomplished but mostly glad I could stop for the day. Everyone says you should feel better and I feel like I’m missing out on something.
How to stay motivated TL;DR: Make back farts a habit
Craig, I had no idea that you have been credited with coining the word "dooblydoo."
FACT!
Yup, I always think, "Thanks Wheezy!" whenever another RUclipsr mentions it.
I wonder what inspired that specific word. Do you guys know? Like what about the description box made him think “dooblydoo”?
I also do the whole "don't think about it" thing. I'm not telling myself "I'm going to do this hard workout" but rather, "I'm just putting on my sports outfit. Now I'm opening up the workout plan" and going task by task to avoid feeling too lazy in advance. I end up tricking myself into working out!
Number one reason for me- mental health. Every time I am done with my workout I feel like I can think sharp, and endorphins make me feel amazing.
Same! I have ADHD and anxiety so mental health and sleep are my two most motivating factors. The physical health part is just a bonus
Also for anyone like me who can’t afford a PT, having a friend come along with you on your fitness journey is super useful too! Keeping eachother accountable, learning and practicing together and motivating eachother!
This. So true.
My fitness goal is to have the confidence of Shirtless Backfart Craig.

I started DeltaTrainer after your first video about them and I'm still on it too! I couldn't do a 30 second plank before but now I do 2 minutes. I'm sure that'll be good for something eventually, right?
... right?
Thanks Wheezy!
Maybe try to get into a hobby like parkour, mountainbiking, climbing etc then yes that will bring you another long term goal to work out to be fit for the activity you love
right!
great job! Strengthening those core muscles improves both your balance and stability :) Here is a list of real-world benefits for strengthening your core - www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/the-real-world-benefits-of-strengthening-your-core
What motivates me to exercise in general:
-My mind is clearer, I'm less likely to feel depressed
-My muscles and joints feel better
-My posture is improved
-I feel more confident
-It will help me to live a more enjoyable life when I'm older
-I can keep up with friends/family during physical activities
What helps motivate me to exercise each workout:
-Doing shorter workouts, with the option of making it longer if I feel up to it
-Reminding myself that the more workouts I skip, the more difficult it will be for me to resume working out
-Setting small goals for myself, challenging myself to be better than before
-I listen to my body and do an easier/harder workout depending on how I feel
-Reminding myself that in a 24 hour day, working out for 20-30 minutes doesn't take that long, and is well worth the benefits
Getting an exercise routine started is tough, but the effects of the consistency is so worth it.
Literally thinking of going on a diet, go on yt, and this is the first vid in my sub box lol
You can do it!
MemerMan you can do it! And your videos are great. Thank you for what you do!
Don't go on a diet! Make small, healthy changes to what you normally eat. Find healthy foods you like and see what you can do for the rest of your life. The problem with diets is that they work until you stop. You don't form healthy habbits that you can maintain. Add stuff, like increase your vegetables. Don't take less healthy food you like away, but eat them in moderation. That way you can keep going, achieve your goals and keep your results! You've got this!
As the other guy said, don't go on a diet. Specially those that are too restrictive. Because there's a high chance you're gonna burn out and just give up. Try to make small adjustments on what you eat, this way you can be more consistent for a long period of time. Love you memes man :D
Exercise is honestly more important for weight loss, if that's your only goal. Switching up your diet without restricting your calories (taking healthier options like people have said) is more important for your overall health; you could eat trash and work out like a monster and lose weight, but still develop health problems from your diet.
Don't focus on weight loss though, since it's such a gradual change that you will likely get unmotivated (plus being larger isn't unhealthy if you're eating well and staying active). As someone who lost over 100 pounds due to anxiety suppressing my appetite for a year, I didn't notice anything on my figure until I had lost it all. Focusing on eating healthy for the sake of being healthier, and working out so that you can work out harder (heavier weights or longer runs/bike rides), and feel better in your everyday life.
This is kind of weird but I tore a blank page out and for every time I work out I draw a little brick. I take pictures periodically to see the difference over time. It’s easier to see progress that way sometimes than pictures of myself
That's a fun idea :)
I love this channel. Not only for the channel and the dedication but the guy’s personality, it’s just soooo normal and funny!
Dannng, your posture definitely is looking better Craig!
I love the way you’ve approached and maintained exercising. More people should follow your example...talking to myself.
You don't suddenly look like the after photo in an advertisement, but it's nice to get a realistic view of physical fitness. My current weight/exercise goal is to not go up a pants size... and I guess stay in shape to be strong enough to do stuff around the house, because my parents aren't getting younger.
Happy Delta Trainer customer here. Excellent service. You clued me into this. Thanks!
make it a habit and you'll miss it when you skip it. works with basically anything.
This is so true...
If that were true most people wouldn’t be out of shape. If you miss it when you don’t do it, you are a rarity.
@@PrettyINCs you've got to make it a habit first
Man I am so happy to see this guy still making videos and being supported by his fanbase! I grew up watching his videos. An insanely creative, talented guy - a youtube OG who deserves all the success in the world. Keep being you, Craig!
Your progress pictures are so good! And it’s thanks to others people’s progress pictures is the reason I got into fitness - those comparison pictures are important, so thanks for posting. And Taskmaster / Cats Does Countdown are the BEST shows on British TV!!
Love hearing updates on your fitness progress. One of the things I keep coming back to to remind me of the benefits of exercise is your videos on your fitness journey ~
Love the update! I used to work out regularly and this is making me remember how good the routine of working out regularly made me feel. It sucks so bad getting started but for me, once I did it regularly it felt like my mind craved a workout if I missed a few days (of course rest days key)
Interesting! I feel like I never reach a stage when I feel like I have *more* energy afterwards! Indeed, I know that both for the rest of the day and the following day, I will have *less* energy (which is almost 100% of the time when you run 3x per week).
I (re-)started running ~2 years ago (mainly because it's cheap and easy to do, and benefit/time = high. Not because I particularly enjoy it 😅) and then stopped after ~6 months due to extraordinary time commitments I had elsewhere. And then started again last year, also for about 6 months, and then again this winter (also 6 months or so now). I don't know at which point I'm supposed to start finding benefits *other* than feeling (and being!) physically fitter, but I ain't there yet!! 😅😅
Runner's high - what is that?
Better sleep - never knew 'er!
More energy - hah! I wish!! (I concede I might have more baseline energy than when not exercising, but on an actual day-to-day basis all I see is tiredness, so I can't really say)
...sorry, that was a bit of an essay 😅 I've just been thinking about it recently, so this video came at the right time!
@@EcceJack Nah I like essay comments! Haha. I'm sorry but this will be long too.
For me I enjoyed going to the gym and focused on weight lifting. I've never gotten into running (due to me being very dumb and tearing my meniscus, unrelated to exercise 🙃) so I don't know about runners high either! But lifting I think has given me a similar feeling, I'd get what I'd call a "second wind" once I got used to the stairs climber too. It took at least 30mins for that to kick in.
What worked for me is I had a little routine where I'd pick a specific time every day to go to the gym and I'd start with an ab circuit in the stretching room away from others so I could calm down from the day's stresses and get mentally into "the zone". I think partially that played a big roll in keeping me coming back for more. It was kind of a zen place in my mind. Also for me, weight lifting was something "real" to my mind where I could track my sets and reps. So that is another thing that encouraged me. Just maintaining the numbers felt good, I didn't worry about increasing them. After a while my body wanted to stretch and wanted to move and mentally I wanted to do it too.
Possibly lifting may give you those after-workout feel-good chemicals too if you don't feel them after running? Finding little aspects in the workout that vibe with you goes a long way.
@@frostypaws14 thanks for the insightful response! As I was saying, I'm running mainly because it's cheap - if I had things my way, I'd be rowing (I used to do that.... SEVERAL years ago, and really enjoyed it), but I have nowhere to row in my current location and until recently, I couldn't even justify a gym membership (to get to a good rowing machine).
I have tried home workouts, but (again, without any kit or a dedicated room) I always found them a hassle and could never get into a good routine. Maybe tacking that onto the existing running routine might help, or maybe I could try to get into a gym as you suggest. It would be a separate, dedicated place & time for activity, and therefore good for building up a routine, and to get away from other daily worries etc., so I think you're onto something there! :) Several of my friends who lift certainly seem to enjoy it
You definitely gave me more food for thought, so thanks again!
@@EcceJack Running took me quite a while to enjoy too tbh. Seeing significant improvements in how long I can comfortably run was very motivating for me but requires slowly building up the length which can be a pain. Another thing that's helpful for me is switching up my runs. So I don't just do endurance, I also run intervals and sometimes I run in a forest instead of the usual flat pavement (obv depends on where you live). Finding a group with which to run can be hugely motivating, maybe you can find something like that through social media? Although admittedly right now is not a good time for that 😅.
As for runners high: I only really experience it when running downhill and even then not frequently.
Glad to know you found ''Taskmaster'' and Jimmy Carr 🥰
thank you for forcing me back to my physiotherapy routine! i need it for my knees' long term health
Great work so far. I’ve always enjoyed your channel, your personality and creativity!
Your video about a year ago inspired me to start working out too. I’ve stuck with it & its now just an unthinking routine. Thank you (again) for kicking this off, making such a positive difference and sharing your journey.

The thorough and honest reflection in this video is very helpful and validating for me! :)
Perfect statement about goals! Thank you!
GOALS - so cool that you mentioned this! I didn’t discover this until I started doing yoga. It just became ‘something I do’. It’s been really helpful in giving me a better mindset for exercise.
I find that most British panel shows are good abs exercise on their own
These are such insightful ideas. You’re very lighthearted about it but they are truly excellent, thank you!
Good for you Craig! And congrats on passing a million subs 😁🎉🎉
I have to say, I love that you're still working out with Nate, something about building that relationship makes working out so much better!
Craig,
I came across your channel a little over a month ago while at work, and I knew I had to sub when I got home. Watched more of your videos and loved them, and I had been anxiously waiting for your latest video to drop!
And I'm glad it did when it did, because I just had a bad time where it was one thing after another interfering with exercise. Hormonal issues, lower energy and motivation, friend and family issues, and even being a klutz and falling and hurting myself (not just once, but twice and injured both knees!). After yesterday's fall at work, I went to the ER to get x-rayed and during triage, my blood pressure was through the roof. I attributed it to being in pain, naturally, but my dad had to take a dig at my weight while I was on my way *and* back at home.
He's far from being physically fit himself, but that hypocritical dig hurt quite a bit. Thankfully, the nurse was an angel and was reassuring that it wasn't my weight which caused my tumble. Anyone could miss a step while walking and carrying something heavy and hurt themselves, regardless of size. She gave me some books and a podcast to listen to, and I started to feel better about myself.
Seeing your progress photos and thinking about what the nurse said yesterday ("Every *body* is different, and you have to take care of you for what *your* comfortable weight is"), my mom reiterating that genetics is also at play for my being overweight, and what a friend told me before ("Weight loss isn't linear -- it has its ups and downs as you continue to get to a healthier you") really was reassuring in a way. I'm not trying to advocate for unhealthiness (before trolls come my way), but anyone, whether they're a size 2 or 22 or anywhere else, can have a host of health issues. Added weight does add some problems for some people, but it doesn't for others. Eating better without full-on deprivation and adding activity is what makes a difference.
Tl;dr: After having seen your video, I can't wait to have mobility again and get back to exercising *for me* because it feels good and leaves me feeling better about myself. Not for looks or a particular size, but just because it leaves my body feeling much better.
Thank you, and I can't wait to see more from you (and you may have convinced me to finally become a Patron)!
I think a lot of these tips are useful when creating goals in general. We need to know why we're doing the things we're making ourselves do, and building the kinds of habits we value which in turn will help us build the kinds of lives we want.
Great insight. Nice job being so consistent.
Great video, thanks! Didn't get bored with your video as I do with most
Just want to say thanks for the update. I signed up with delta 4 months ago after I saw your last video. Literally the best thing I have done in years. My trainer is Tom and while the program and app are fantastic, the non judge mental and supportive training staff are what make the whole thing work. Thank you for sharing this journey, it has made a huge difference in my life.
This is awesome Craig, I love your outlook about exercise. It's really motivating and a great reminder. Congrats on almost a year - dang!
The hardest thing for me with exercise is consistency because I get injured easily, and then I have to rest. I think it's because I overdo it at the start instead of gradually increasing my workouts. This was a cool video and I'm definitely going to take some of this into my life too.
Remind yourself that there's no deadline for being fit. That might help you start things slow
I had the exact same issue! But finally managed to overcome it last year with an extra easy workout plan with sloooow progession. Start with exercises your joints can take, even if think you muscels could easily do more! I felt so stupid lifting that 1liter milk pack for weeks in the beginning but it worked and now I don't hurt even when lifting really heavy
Downloaded it from your last video’s endorsement and it has been the BEST decision. I’ve never before been able to make working out this regular and habitual. It’s so easy when someone else does the thinking, and you just do what the app tells you to do (While watching talk shows or reality TV 😄). It’s awesome.
Wheezy - Great job sticking with it!
This is actually so helpful for motivation!
This is awesome!!! good for you and thanks for motivating me

Awesome job Craig!
Good for you, man! Come on over to Badger Den Strength on Atwood Ave. sometime. Would be great to see you there!
It's definitely so easy to just abandon working out after a day of exhaustion from work. But remembering that consistency is key and that every little action matters in the long run is what helps me stay motivated! Super motivating video! :)
Back farts: use a sweat towel on top of the mat, under your back to silence the back farts. I use a tea towel. Sometimes. Or I just enjoy the back farts, whatever, doesn't matter. Maybe record the strength and volume of your back farts as yet another achievement!

I just discovered your videos this morning after a long night of insomnia and crazy weather that has flooded our roads and destroyed our roads, which has somehow ended up shutting the water off for myself and the few neighbors I have here in the backwoods country.
You are very talented. I wish I would have discovered you years ago. It's kind of a bum deal, cause I was super interested in your workout ad promotion. Unfortunately, I've discovered this and all your other videos 2 weeks too late. Well... 4 weeks, but 2 weeks after the initial 2 weeks.
Anyway, I've enjoyed myself. Thank you.
Im just on the first minute of the video and i got a silly smile on my face probably cause i can relate soo much. Thanks for sharing man

Thank you, Craig. This really helps me. I’m struggling with stress and weight gain and the resulting aches and pains. When you said you constantly read about the benefits of exercise… light bulb moment for me. So again, thank you 🙂
I joined delta trainer after your first video and I'm happy to say that I've never worked out so regularly and effectively. I daily drive an android and use my brother's phone to use the app 😅 and it is so worth it. I avoided going to the gym due to social anxiety, so being able to workout at home is such a blessing. being able to pause the workout and move things around makes it easier to workout in smaller spaces as well. highly recommend!!!

I love how Craig is so into British comedy - genuinely makes me smile!
I was expecting you to put up your weight stats but I was pleasantly surprised that you did not.
I definitely notice an improvement in posture. Great job on the consistency!
What timing! I need to see a health coach (again) but am doing really good. Better in health than I've been in some recent years.
So yay no heart attacks, wat wat!! lol

First of all, thank you for your videos. I'm usually not early enough for you to see my comment, so I wanted to say that! You have motivated me in so many ways, and kept me company when I needed it. So thank you.
As for exercise, I find the thing that motivates me most is a fitness class that starts at a specific time. I do High Fitness mostly, and it starts on time whether I'm there or not. So I make sure I'm in my spot, and the instructors and the music and the other participants get me through the rest! If all I have to do is show up, the rest is easy.
You are so entertaining. I love your personality.
I like the honesty!
Congrats Craig! Clearly has time passes you are not becoming worse in figure/size/posture. It’s a win!
I've just started to go to the gym this week and today I'm all sore and was thinking of skipping today's workout, but now, after this video, I have to go because I have the same motive to go workout that you have, to be healthy. Thank you!
less goo
If you're really sore in the beginning and it keeps you from working out again try going a bit easier so that you can consistently work out and then progressively make it harder.
The first week is always the worst when it comes to soreness. It gets better after.
If you are really sore then it's advisable to take a rest day as your muscles need time to recover. I sometimes do a HIIT workout on a day I'm too sore for lifting weights, or go for a brisk walk etc. Also, magnesium is your friend for muscle recovery along side protein.
Thank you all! I’ll take it easy. If I feel like I can’t do much I’ll just use the treadmill for today and let my muscles recover. I think I took it a little too far on the arms exercises but I’ll be okay.
Congrats for sticking to it! 💪
I just enjoy watching your content So. Much. Spiked with lots of humor and honesty. Love it. Greetings from Germany 😁
Love the comment that it's a lifestyle, not a goal you set! It's so true. That said, I do like setting goals like, "this year I'm going to try two new sports/classes" or "I'm going to run three races this year". Mostly just to motivate me to do things I already love doing. My goals don't focus on the way my body looks, but on my attitude toward fitness.
This is very spot on
Do not quit ... at the beginning you do not feel better about exercising ... you are fatigued, low energy ... it is over time - three weeks to two months - that you start feeling better.
Maybe you're overexerting yourself? For me, every time I fall off the wagon for a few months and start again, what motivates me to keep going is rediscovering how great it feels. I usually start off gentler and get more intense over the days/weeks/months to accommodate my body getting stronger, and I usually feel great after.
Yeeesssss!!! Great job!👍🏻
1:55 Your way of thinking makes me chuckle every time!
This is so awesome, it motivates me to keep on exercising!
Great video!
I'd like to add that it's SO important to find an exercise that you enjoy! I personally used to love weight lifting, but I don't feel comfortable at a gym anymore after an experience with harassment, and we rent so I don't want to have to move a home gym when we leave this apartment. So I've been going through all sorts of different exercises, none of which I really enjoyed until I found hula hooping (I know, it's weird 😂) but it's so much fun putting on some 90s dance music and hooping for a while, and I'm super excited to get into the really fancy dance hooping as I get better!
Nate seems like a wonderful trainer!
Good job!
I joined DeltaTrainer back in December, thanks to your video. Nate is my trainer too and he's great. I've been exercising regularly since December... I've been consistent, when I just couldn't manage to make myself do it before. I'm very grateful! Thanks!
Simply put, you're awesome👍
Thanks again Wheezy.
I’ve been doing Delta Trainer for 2 months thanks to your endorsement and I love it! It’s been a game changer for me and my 52 year old body, thank you!
