    Greetings,
I hope you enjoy my new video. Sheesh. I'm spending a LOT more time on videos these days.
Currently in the middle of our next video, which is quitting the Internet for the entire month of October!
There are a few exceptions, like uploading this video and writing this comment. I was planning on just uploading this video and then not checking comments or anything, but I just CAN'T do that! I'll be able to check for a limited time later tonight. So if you want to say anything to me, do it now! If you're a jerk and want to say something mean, well, I hope you find peace someday.
    Hope all is well!
    Craig

I started working out about 7 months ago for 1 reason: I was not happy with how my clothes fit my body.
I started growing muscles slowly and didn't notice much, but looking back at my "old" photos I can see a clear difference, on top of having better mental and physical health of course.
I spend 1 hour 4 days a week in the gym. That's it.
I don't even keep a strict diet. I don't do protein shakes or anything.
I didn't like it at first, but 7 months later... Boy is that one of the best decisions I've done in my life.

This is a very interesting video, because I just recently started my own sort of adventure with getting more active and healthy over this past summer. Six months ago, I weighed about 327 pounds, while now I'm down to 194 pounds. It's sort of funny to say this, but all it took was upping my activity level and watching what I ate. Taking (at least) hour long walks throughout my neighborhood every day was, at first, a chore - something that I felt I needed to do. Some days early on felt forced, but as time moved on I grew to really enjoy my walks. Being able to zone out and get into my own space while listening to music and enjoying nature has really become a new love for me.
While my routine (walking, jogging, and hiking) isn't nearly as intense as cross-fit, it's still a rewarding experience in its own right. Thanks for making this video, Craig!

A highly oxygenated brain works better. That's why i do it. Whenever i feel sad or unmotivated, or have work to do or i'm uninspired when trying to create something, i start working out or take a ride on my long board. After that, i'm good to go.
A lot of great writers from the past, for example, used to walk miles and miles in a single day, letting their mind wander. Anything that gets you moving is good for your brain.
Even Chuck Palahniuk said that when he's stuck, he goes to the gym and it totally works.

Hi! I'm training to be a professional dancer so I'm kinda bias but! Dance is an Excellent form of exercise! It works you physically, but also mentally (picking up/remember choreograph, coordination, etc) and artistically (musicality, texture, performance, etc). Seriously, just go take a dance class. You'll have a good time, I promise.

From someone who used to be completely adverse to the idea of exercise, along with being someone whom if you were a friend of mine 'what him in a gym? Whaaaat?' or such, I can tell you the effort is worth it. Starting is the hard part, keeping it up is even harder but the feel of completing a workout is just worth it. What exercise did you try, cause it could of just not been for you. Try a couple of things. Most of all I wish you luck! You can do it!

    • @allendhansen
      @allendhansen 5 лет назад +1

Don't hit it too hard when you are just getting back into it. Anything at all that gets you outside or to the gym is a win. Consistency is key! Even if you don't feel like it one day make yourself do just 5 min. Chances are, you'll get into it!

    • @maggieonsecurity
      @maggieonsecurity 5 лет назад

What are your goals with exercising? Figuring out your motive might help you ignite your passion. Also, find your workout. Not every type of exercise will work for everyone. Try new types of training techniques, such as the gym, cross-fit, HIT, Yoga, Pilates, Hiking, walking, etc. Try a combination of aerobics with anaerobics. Once I realized a combination of walking, hiking, lifting weights and yoga was for me - exercising was no longer mundane. And I switch up my aerobics methods as to not be so "repetitive"; during the summer I am swimming at least 3 days a week but during the winter I crave yoga. So get out there and try new things. You will find your groove. There is no right or wrong answer here. Just figure out your exercising goals and just do it! 🌟

I’ve recently gotten back into exercising (and I mean like instead of working out twice and giving up, I’ve actually worked out regularly 2-3 times a week for the last two months) and I have to say this is my advice:
    1. The first day is tough, but it gets better
    2. The first time you hit that inevitable wall where you want to skip your workout, don’t. That’s when you need go the most because if you skip that day, you’ll skip the rest.
    3. Go at your own pace. It’s good to have goals, but make them achievable and be kind to yourself. It’s not easy especially at first. Do what you can and build on that. Challenge yourself slowly.

Nope, don't enjoy exercise, but I do it to remain alive.
Which is an overly dramatic way to put it, I suppose, but my health was not in an especially great place until I changed my diet, and changing my diet kinda forced me to exercise since I would otherwise lose weight without gaining muscle mass. I was diagnosed with diabetes, and I started having panic attacks, among other issues. So, I thought I'd try to reverse it.
And I did. I'm no longer diabetic. Went from 230 lbs to around 157 lbs (fluxes from 155 to 160). Unfortunately, I didn't exercise my rear enough, and my coccyx feels exposed... but hopefully I'll get some muscles built around there so I can sit more comfortably.

I've been a Beardlover and subscriber for years and years but fell out of the RUclips-watching life until a few months ago. Videos like these are what have gotten me back into it - great quality content that I genuinely feel enriches my life rather than just filling up time.
I'm so appreciative of the no-internet challenge that you and Chyna are doing, and honestly hope that your results will inspire me to spend my internet time more wisely. I've found myself binging on too many other 'filler' videos since I've been back in the RUclips bubble, so I'm very interested to find out how you phase the internet back into your life at the end of this month.

Here's another one: it makes my back feel better. When I feel like my back is locked up, walking for at least 15-20 minutes is the absolute best way I can pop my spine. In general, my back just feels infinitely better since I started exercising regularly.
And another: when I take walks outside, getting sun probably helps with symptoms of seasonal affective disorder.
Also: when I take a walk through a park, being surrounded by green and having city sounds muffled makes me feel centered and less stressed.

    • @yuzufrio

taking walks (especially outside in the morning sunlight) has literally been life-changing. it works best when i use it as a mindfulness practice, so i'm not unwittingly ruminating as i walk too. my mood feels lighter and more resilient, and i get better sleep too.

  • @maxwellschmidt235

I think there are several reasons why we like exercise.
    1. The pain comes to be associated with the pride of gains. As we watch fatty deposits disappear, muscles grow, and more activities and movements become available.
    2. Movements becoming available that you couldn't do before is like unlocking an achievement in your own body, so the boredom subsides.
    3. As boredom and pain subside, exercise becomes an end in itself, rather than a means- therefore we find it inconvenient that there are obstacles between us and our exercise.
Ultimately, the people who stick with fitness are the ones who find a movement that they like to do, and so they keep doing it. For me, it was using kettlebells. Everyone has something they want to do physically, so it's mostly a matter of attempting movements until you find the one that will inspire you to do the ones you don't want to do.
Great video, I hope it gets someone out there moving.

Dancing not only got me in shape, it helped me a ton to get over my depression, Music, movement and focus, its a dream combo. And now I can dance too, alway fun showing off at parties. When I started, I kept giving up, but I kept trying to push myself nonetheless, training at first was painful and exhausting, but one day the juices got flowing and I was smiling like a mad man, since that day I have been dancing for 5 years now, non-stop, whenever I have some spare time. atm im busy trying to tie my dance together with my artistic side and create a few video's. Its a long term project that I only plan to finish sometime next year in april or june. But yea, move you body and your mind will move with it at some point, just don't give up. It took my two years of trying and giving up before I could overcome my lack of willpower and just hang in there until it got fun.

I really really like this video, and this long form style in general. It is funny and interesting, but the production value is really quality-- it's clear you took time to craft this video and make it into something good, something funny, something worth watching. I see all these videos about similar topics such as this (or even more often such as the added sugar video) but rarely do I feel satisfied from watching. This is a simple topic in some regards, but it feels genuine, entertaining, and thought through. The time you took to interview different people, with similar and pleasing shots, the various shots of people excercising with the variation of voiceover vs direct interview, and the centeredness of it you create with your own input and talking head-- it feels succinct, it feels crafted, and it feels very honest and funny and smart and real at the same time. You made something that was fulfilling not just in its content but also in its technique. I hope you continue to explore this form, as it seems you are doing, and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff, whatever you come up with. Thanks for sharing.

As a guitarist of 15 years, I 100% agree that on days that I'm active, my genuine creative output is much more in tune. My timing, notation, and dynamic are greatly improved. It's like I can understand my improvisation more coherently relative to all other musical ideas, where things fit and where things don't (even though it's not that black and white). It's as if it mirrors the body physically working together to achieve a goal, much like a group of musicians with different rolls that work toward the same collective idea. Basically if your stagnant so is your creativity

Hey : ) Yes, your video about quitting sugar really blewed up because that's how I found you : ) I love your videos, they're too funny. Also, thanks to the video about sugar I have also quitted for one month and it was amazing. Today I treated myself with a piece of chocolate and a biscuit after 30 days without sugar and it was unexpectedly awful so I think sugar is not for me anymore. So thank you, you have changed my life : )

    Great Video Craig! Thank you.
Very relevant to me as I am in my 30's and am fitter now than ever before and excercise has become a part of my daily life.
I do freelteics (bodyweight workouts) and running and love both.
With the freeletics it's absolutely the comradery, the feeling of acoumplishment and the competitive aspects, and with running it's the Time for yourself (well, you and your Audiobook or podcast) and the exploring aspect.
There is no better way to see a new place than a run or long walk.
Anyway, great excercise, and I have to thank you, again as the 7 minute workout was the reason I started excercising again which led to all the other glorious parts of excercise.
A few more points: 1. nothing is impossible regarding your fitness level.
    2. Start with something like 7 minute, it's time based so if it takes you 30 seconds to do 1 pushup, then so be it, but it will get better.
    3. Being able to use your body how it is intended is such a joy and worth the effort alone.
    4. Fresh air and excercise clear the mind which is especially important for office workers.
That's all unless I think of more :)
