I've had Porta Pro's for over 30 years. In the UK you can get them changed for £6 if the cable breaks (lifetime guarantee). They do improve with age, apart from the pressure pads which crush after a year or so. I went auditioning headphones for some over ear ones for more discerning listening and struggled to find any that could better the Koss. In the end I got Audeze LCD-2C's (£500) which had the same neutral sound and proper extended bass, like the Porta Pro's. Given that my Koss' cost £36, I thought the majority of headphones, some costing stupid money, were rubbish by comparison to the Koss Porta Pro. Like he says.... Just Buy Some. My whole family have these, and I have converted many friends over the years. I dont recommend many things, lets face it, most stuff these days doesnt live up to expectations, but the Porta Pro is the biggest exeption to the "everything is crap" rule that I can think of.
Still rocking them in 2024. Bought my first pair in 2009. Genuinely the best headset i've ever used for the price range. Love them. I've only had to replace them once, due to a Frey in the cable that happened a few years into using them.
When it comes to budget listening, I think that you do better with iem’s than you can with Koss. I have a few of them in the sub $30 range that can give them a run for the money! Blon BL-03, Final Audio E500, Advanced Wearable Audio AWA 101 are all pretty solid. There are quite a few other recent offerings as well. I’d venture to say that they’ll hold up better long term than the Koss.
I can see that. To be honest I'm not a big iem person so that is another one of those preference things. So I'm not disagreeing with you there to be clear. Comfort wise (for me) I always prefer headphones to iems. However, now you may have convinced me to check out those that you mentioned, so thank you!
Got the supreme porta pros. I have AirPods Pro max, dt 1990s, and a bunch of IEMS. And man these are my new gaming driver. I only play Csgo and first party Nintendo. (Switch/ds) I am in love with how comfy these are for the price and most importantly the portability
J&R Music World, NYC, 2002 and I'm trying on five, ten different headphones. The word fidelity came to mind when I was sampling the Porta Pro. I purchase them exclusively on a wayfaring excursion. #emilyLinge🙋🏼♀
What is your go-to budget headphone? Do you agree about the Porta Pros?

These things are awesome. Great bass.
Koss Porta Pro - very good and comfortable headphones. There are no better at this price.
