A morning of Street Photography in London using the Leica Q2. I also answer a common question about street photography and that is "What do you look for?".
#streetphotography #photography #London
Light and shadow on black & white photography does it for me and you nailed it on the shots you took, especially with the person going up the stairs.
Interesting candid mood if you know what I mean. Sorry English is not my mother tongue. But the video had something very personal and natural. Others might find it boring but it hooked me in a very interesting way.
I agree.
Fantastic video. Great advice. Inspiring
I have to say, I shoot a lot in B&W and I think your B&W pics in this batch are your best.
Really enjoying your newsletters here in Canada. You’re also one of the best photographers with a channel on RUclips. Thanks again for not putting in stupid stuff and flashy crap to your videos. You’re appreciated for your expertise, candour, and style.
Thanks so much 😊 really appreciate that!
Great video, thank!
Road to 100k subs you deserve it mate
Thanks! Let’s get it 🚀
Your eye is getting even sharper - love to see it
Generally speaking, I like your photos and your videos a lot. It's all very well done, and the videos are very well thought out and produced (except maybe for the occasional cell-phone-as-a-mic😉). But I do take exception with something you said in this video, specifically, your comment about not shooting Big Ben, followed by another comment about not shooting anything "mundane." Therefore, by implication, you have indicated that you think Big Ben is mundane.
It isn't. Not close.
Because you live in London (and watching any number of walking or bus ride videos about London is all the verification I need to say this), you have the absolute luxury of thinking something like Big Ben is mundane. You are surrounded by amazing, wonderful things. So I have 2 challenges for you:
1. Go shoot that thing you think is mundane (Big Ben, or anything else you feel falls in that category), but do it in such a manner that will positively blow people's minds. In other words, shoot an "anything but mundane" photo of an otherwise mundane thing.
2. Take a trip over to my side of the pond, visit me here in my part of the US, and let me show you what mundane really is. Granted, we also have many exciting and beautiful things to photograph here in the US, and while there may, in fact, be mundane things in London, you haven't seen "mundane" until you can't see anything else because there isn't anything else. And in my part of the States, that's all there is. Mundane piled on mundane piled on more mundane. When you master shooting non-mundane photos of all of the mundanity surrounding you, then, and only then, you can complain about Big Ben being mundane.
BTW, your comment that Big Ben will always be there is curious. I assume that you are aware that much of London was bombed into oblivion during World War II, and it was only by the Grace of God and the bravery of a relative handful of RAF fighter pilots that many of your beautiful landmarks -- Big Ben, Parliament, Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, and many more -- were not completely destroyed at the hands of the Nazis, and are there today for you to refer to as "mundane."
Don't take London for granted. It's an extraordinarily amazing that I doubt I will ever have the opportunity to visit (as much as I would love to). As a street photographer, you should be able to see how amazing it is in darn near every square inch of the place.
That Addidas opportunity, dang. Great you recognised the better potential too. Nice commentary. Ps. I like your trousers…
I knowww, at least I made me smile in my head. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if it’s real or not 😂 at least we notice these things.
Ps. You always like my trousers
Love love love. Great video thanks Mike!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment
From time to time I still wonder whether there are days when advanced and pro photographers feel that they didn't get many or even a single good shot on their trip out. So I always find it very grounding when photographers on RUclips share their footage and photos still, even if they themselves are not too happy with it. It shows that there's more to the process than what most people might otherwise expect. Thanks, Mike! (Also, tad bummed you didn't turn around 5:29, that running cop crossing the street might have made for a fun shot 😂)
Thanks for watching and for this comment. I 100% understand your point one view and I wouldn't consider myself a pro, I do think it's important to share things honestly so people can see and understand your perspective. The photos in this video were not really to my taste, but I'm pleased I got out and tried anyway.
ps. I see what you mean about the guy running in the background haha - I was too busy complaining...
Hey Mike great video! Whats the vlogging and POV camera you used for this? Thanks!
Interesting that you mention Centre Weighted metering. I have used that option since like 1989 and last week I thought I should actually try Multi/Matrix metering on my GX9 as it seems more ‘This Century’ 🤷🤷
You, retiring after 100'000? Never! 😂 Thanks for a cool video 👏🏻
Haha of course not 😂
BTW: concerning your newsletter. I really enjoy reading them, but sometimes it could interesting to hear people's options especially on a topic like AI (where I couldn't agree more to your POV)... so maybe a commenting section would be great. What is your opinion on that? Or is it too much maintenance? 🙏🏻
It would be great to add other opinions in there for sure! Perhaps words from readers each week on the same topic could be a great feature, they submit a paragraph or 2 before it goes live and I publish it. Like a 'featured this week' along with a 'photo of the week' as well. Sharing work from readers who use the #thefocalpoint maybe.
like the way you think about color & B&W, but think you should explore B&W more. Don't get me wrong I think your images are slammin. All of this is just a suggestion!
1:27 a wild Canon as appeared
Hi Mike, always appreciate your videos. I have considered a Q2 but one of the things I keep hearing is that the 28mm actually renders more like a 24-26mm. Do you find that to be the case?
Shouldn't that be His Majesty's passport office..
