    The twin disc and updated fork are real upgrades. Like the green!

    • @thebrowns5337
      @thebrowns5337 2 месяца назад +3

      Having a 2024 V7 I'm not sure the upgrades will be noticeable.
      The front brake already feels good enough.
      The forks - I like that the upside down forks mean it's now black at the top (the chrome at the top of current bike is the only bit of chrome and looks slightly odd). However, 1mm extra diameter won't add much stifness and if you look they have removed the brace between the fork legs at fender level. Maybe that's because the 1mm adds just enough theuy no longer need it?
      Yes the new fork design has less unsprung weight... but they reversed that win by adding an extra (and uneccessary in my view) brake disc and caliper. It'll be heavier at the hub than before so unsprung weight is worse now.
      Design wise the front end looks better but I doubt anyone could actually notice any improvement in suspension. Braking maybe.

    Love to see that lime green color come back and would surely be my pick, without any second thoughts!
    Rider modes on a 67 hp bike is a joke. At least I hope they got the engine revving a bit higher (1.000 - 1.500 rpm) in "sport" mode.

      I added a BMW R nineT to my stable. The two bikes are very similar in size, weight, shaft drive, across the frame twin engine and even, I would argue, looks. With them being so similar the thing that differentiates them, of course, is the 110 bhp on the Bimmer !.

      I’m surprised there isn’t more power, but I suspect there’s a lot of tuning capability to be tapped into. They finally ditched the bottleneck 38mm TB for the V85’s 52mm TB. Give it a year or two and I’d bet on seeing 80+hp from lightly modded versions.

Now my big question is what the pricetag will end up being in my market and if it's worth the premium. If it had an analog dash and the 80hp engine from the V85 It would be a must buy, but alas.

    The current V7s don't need dual discs. Just adds unsprung weight. The USD forks might be an improvement... TBD. I don't like bar end mirrors so that's actually a negative for me.
    Overall I'd still take the quite handsome Special with the spoke wheels, twin clocks, chrome, and great mirrors.

      2025 Special doesn't have analogue gauges anymore

  • @thebrowns5337
    @thebrowns5337 2 месяца назад

    Not convinced the new fork will be more rigid. 1mm difference in diameter won't add much stiffness and it also appears to have lost the bridge connecting the fork legs at fender level. If anything it might have more flex? Nice to see unsprung weight of the fork reduced... but thats more than offset by adding an extra disc and caliper up front - so again doubful there will be a noticable improvement.
    Cruise and IMU are good additions although as a naked it's not a mile munchers first choice and as a torque rich retro it's not a track day bike or huge corner carver.
    The outgoing version I think says 80% of torque from 3000 revs so 90% from 3500 might not be huge difference again? (I could be wrong on those figures as it's a while since I lookedatreviews of the 24 model).
    I have the 2024 SE and love it. I love the look of this sport too but thankfully don't feel the need to rush out and swap! Asthetics are biggest draw for me to this new one - black tops of the forks and black rear springs (I like that the red ones on the SE make it stand out but they are bright!).
    With the Arrow exhausts already giving me a touch more torque than a base model I could add a Mistral velocity cone thingy on the airbox interface and maybe match this new ones figures? Front brake is decent enough for how i ride.

  • @hugodacosta
    @hugodacosta 2 месяца назад

    Should I swap my 2022 V7 850 Store Centenario (3000km on the clock) for this new Sport? I mean, finally a decent fork and two disc brakes with radial clips, that's all I wanted to upgrade my bike. I'm confortable enough with the hp.

    • @thebrowns5337
      @thebrowns5337 2 месяца назад

      Ignore the unsprung weight benefit of upsidedown forks as this is lost by adding that extra disc and caliper. Ignore the stiffness improvements too - 1mm diameter isn't huge and the brace at fender level has gone by the look of it. If the spring/damping is better it might still be worth it. Adjustability only really helps if you are heavier or lighter than average riders manufacturers design for or for track days (but this bike isn't really sold for that). Looks wise the new fork for the Sport model is a big win in my eyes.
      Twin discs must improve the stopping power but I find the single handles it well enough for me. The rear isn't great - shame they didn't improve that.

When I rode a V7 earlier this year it had a very similar dash which I was not a fan onf, but other models at the dealership had the traditional (and much better-looking) analog gauges. I don't feel the vibes are an issue. It more shakes than vibrates. Get a lot less issues at foot and seat area than the SV650 in terms of vibes. I also prefer the seat on the V7. I'd say it's a comfy bike.

    I’ll keep my 16 V7S it still looks better to me personally. A special should not have mag wheels and an afterthought of a fuel cap.

    This would’ve been a great opportunity for moto guzzi to do a real v7 sport with more power and slightly sportier seating position. As Triumph did away with the Thruxton and massacred the speed twin it would have been an easy buy. The fact they didn’t do a v7 racer in year really is a crying shame. As this v7 sport has nothing in common with the models history the grey paint job seems more appropriate to me.

      Performance for a classic Bike like Triumph speed twin 900 or RE 650...
      Sure it is no panigale, but you should compare Apples with Apples and then the rating is good.
      And the name Sport is a memory to the old sport model.
      But I expect you are not the kind of person who understand such things and you are not the kind of person the bike is for.

    Is there a Racer sport model? Front brakes are fine on the standard V7s, the rear brakes are terrible

    • @thebrowns5337
      @thebrowns5337 2 месяца назад

      Fully agree. Front suits the bikes power levels and intended riding style already. Adding an extra disc and caliper just adds a load of unsprung mass (meaning the tiny gain from the USD fork is lost and then some).
      Rear brake is a shocker. I thought my Honda was bad but this one! People on the forum upgrade to EBC discs and pads all round but as my bike is new that'll wait (spent enough for now!).

    The beefier looking suspension has been long overdue especially as it pertains to the V7's looks. It looks much more substantial than the flimsy looking ones on previous models.

    • @thebrowns5337
      @thebrowns5337 2 месяца назад +1

      It does look better but adding 1mm diameter and removing the brace at fender level won't add any more stiffness.
      Adding an extra disc and caliper will add a lot more unsprung mass than the upside down design saved.
      So it's only in the looks department the new fork wins.

      @@thebrowns5337 You confirm my own suspicions about that. Even so like you say its looks only but its welcomed as for too long the front end always looked akin to a Simson moped or something. As always, MG moves slowly in the direction of progress and evolution lol.

      @@shmac96 lol.
      Reverso Moto do some nice aluminium tubes that can be fitted to the top of the forks (covering the chrome) on the current V7s.
      Of course it means temorarily removing the handlebars and headlight but to be fair that doesn't look too involved watching their instruction video.
      Could even fit their dash centralising bit at the same time.
      Just don't watch the video on their exhaust system - you'll want one and then you'll check the price!

    I love my V7. This doesn't have enough for me to make the switch, however. Plus, they still didn't fix my biggest complaint about the bike: the god damn off-centered clauster. The bike is so slick and harmonious. Why, why, just why would you want to break this harmony when an off-centered gauge cluster. Why. WHY.

    • @johns310

      Luckily there are aftermarket places that make brackets to do just that. I did it for mine from an Italian company that specializes in V7 when I had mine and it definitely made it look much better. Not tough to switch out either

      @breaker19rmr That's a shame.
      And for what? To shave a few bucks per unit?
      If I wanted to stare at the screen, I would buy a tablet. And if I didn't care about style, I would buy modern insect styled moto anyway.

      You also have to look towards the aftermarket for a bracket which puts the gauge in the middle. One cluster off to the side has always bugged me.

      Must admit I'm not a fan of the twin analogue gauges on the special. Glad my Special Edition gets the single dash - it does need an upgrade though. Love the indicator lights but the LCD looks dated.
      I might one day centralise it too (someone does a kit for that) but not sure yet.
