Hey gang! Here's my solution to a cheap DIY water filtration system. Check out the links for products used in this video. For a legit system, check out catspitscreenprintsupply.com and use promo code "MIKEYDESIGNS".
Looks great! I've seen other DIY filtration systems where people have used small aluminum frame silk screens to filter out the heavier stuff. They put a 80 mesh directly under where the water from the washout booth comes out and then a 110 mesh under the 80 mesh and a 156 under the 110.
Tim McElheny thanks! I’ve seen that too. Only thing is, how do you clean the screens used when they’re out without contaminating the cleaner water the pump discards? I’ll definitely look into that. Not much room for more than one screen but will give it a shot.
I have almost the same but I use wood screen frame 180 mesh I don't think it would hold alot of stuff like yours but when my container gets full I plug in a little pump to pull the water out. When the mesh gets dirty I'll use a little of ink remover or emulsion remover to clean the mesh.
I actually thought about that and have a 230 mesh screen I could use that’s wooden as well. Has some emulsion in some spots that’s locked in. I’ll have to give it a try and see if it’ll fit. If so, I’ll do an up date. Perhaps the AC filter in combination with the screen would be a great combo.
Great minds think alike. I built something very similar and also like Ivan Ramos, I use screen mesh 300. When the filter is dirty I just set it aside and let it dry then toss it, replace with a new section of screen.
Creation 80 Graphics wow, us screen printers are pretty crafty when it comes to DIY solutions for our shops. I thought about using a screen, so I may give that a try. I like the AC filter in the fact I can toss it and place another in its place. They have them for 99 cents at Home Depot and seems to work great holding junk. Another consumable. Will def give a screen a shot though and report back.
Hey Matt, quick question - how rickety is that RANAR booth if you completely remove the metal cross-beams at the bottom... is it just gonna bend or fall over without them? Bout to get a booth and love the price and build quality of the RANAR booths but the way the feet are fabricated poses a serious issue for placing a filtration system directly below, and while its clearly an option to plumb to the side instead - I am super limited on space so I need the filtration system to go directly beneath... thoughts?
Hey Hotbox! What is your name BTW? The supports between the legs are really just to keep the feet / legs from spreading. I could see it being an issue if you move it around a lot. However, here is a video Jonathan put together with a filtration system under his, and they just relocated the supports to the outer part of the feet. Check this out. I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/YHvR59PXilk/видео.html BTW, when I moved into my shop, I didn't completely bolt up on of the supports on one side because I lost a couple bolts during the move (partly disassembled the both and lost a couple) and it holds up just fine.
Thanks for the reply. My name's Shaun. Yeah, Ive seen the video where John retrofits the cross beams to the floor... not a fan though personally... Im looking to really streamline how this is going to be setup and I dont want to have to carefully position the filter on top of the beams like that. I considered "possibly" mounting them higher up closer to the drain, but I dont think that would work and it seems like that would not allow the cross beams to really do their job in supporting the booth properly... I mean, theres a reason they engineered it this way. Also, since the filtration system Im planning to get has its own casters for easy cleaning when you need to pull it out, i want to be able to utilize that feature of the system, and by placing the filter on top like that it kinda defeats the whole purpose. Its really a shame RANAR still fabs their booths this way, because even though they make amazing equipment I feel like when they originally created these designs the market was not as focused on being "eco-friendly" and filtering waste water.
Nice video. Is this pump still working for you? I'm currently using a pump but it isn't automatically triggered the way this one is, so I'd like to buy this one.
Hey thanks for the info and video. I'm definitely gonna build one but one question; how do you know which sump pump to buy..I seen some cheaper ones online, what's the minimum power we need for a small diy setup like this. I wanna put an inline filter at the end to filter 20 or so microns. I can't figure the pump power I need, any suggestions?
I believe ours is a 1/2 horsepower. Which is plenty for our case because it will pump the container dry quickly. Think we paid close to $90. I hope this helps.

Cool...
Fold the filter into fours. Rig it to a lid with a lid cut out.
THANKS for sharing this diy
Any time! Thanks for watching!

interesting. I'll look into this for a home silkscreen setup
Nice!

VERY GOOD IDEA, I was actually looking to buying a water filtration system. nice work Mikey!!!
Thank you! This works well for us. A proper water filtration system is always great too. We just have to budget for it in the future as we grow.
Hey we were just talking about this in the Live chat today (10/15/18), very simple and cheap!!!!! Thanks so much ! Im learning a little everyday!
We were! Works great and is cheap. Made units go for thousands. Great to hear it's helping!

woow you have some great ideas.... THANKS
Thank you!
Thanks for the info
Any time!
This is awesome!! How long does the air filter last roughly?
I'd say about 100 screens.
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 damn that’s fantastic!!!! Bout to go get me some filters lol

Mike . Is nesesary to get this. Didn't know . And why my friend
You need a way to get rid of the water from the washout booth without harming the environment.
Are you still using this method?
I sure am. I actually added a small screen printing frame under the ac filter to help support it and for added filtration.
