Theme Song by Hello Control: bit.ly/hellocon...
Im a high school teacher and we just started shot recreation to work lighting and this literally couldnt have been better timing
Learning that mail boxes can be less than $20 makes me want to buy one to put in a film lol
IKR
This makes a lot of sense. Im a 2D artist and doing careful replications of your favorite artist is a classic exercise. It really helps you understand the choices that were made. The fun part is taking those newly learned technique to your own work. It feels like getting a new toy to play with.
Watching you guys doing stuff is such a pleasure. Apart from being extremely useful and inspirational, so much joy.
Love the concept of re-creating high Budget films. It gives myself self-confidence to try to do more! Thank you very much!
Always a good day when y’all post!
Hi
That Premiere Pro trick of matching colours, it's pretty neat.
Best behind the scenes ever. Especially the music when ripping off the back of the mailbox. RAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWR 😂
damm. pure film making these videos are gold.
Your timing is impeccable.
I’ve become addicted to this channel. Well done guys.
This looks so fun, thanks for sharing your experience!
Classic feeling film riot episode. The new Josh Satan splosion of joy cuts when the back of the mail box is mentioned was hilarious. Emily grew up, daaaang. Gotta get that Indians Jones whip out to keep the jackals as bay.
Please please please make this a series
Awesome as always...but any video that does an about face from whimsical goofy music to death metal to convey the proper emotion in a scene deserves special praise.
Ryan, your biggest fan checking in!!!!!! You guys are the best!!!!
Love this! I think the shell in the original is .357 magnum? Not sure. Your prop one looks like a rifle round. Probably only noticeable to us gun nuts, but this was super fun and yes, I get it’s not about perfect duplication. Just noticing that slight difference. Really enjoy this kind of art. Awesome!
Super interesting, very useful and super fun to watch as always. Thanks so much Brian for sharing this video. Cheers from Italy
I've been watching Film Riot for years and you just get better and better. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and keeping the dreams alive! You've helped me in more ways than you can imagine. P.S.- I'm a flaming heterosexual but I think I have a man-crush on Ryan.
Please do more of these!
shotdeck is amazing, i need to renew my subscription
I REALLLY wanted my film school to do this many many years ago. They did not.
@2:45 - This song needs to be on iTunes! I would totally buy it.
Absolutely cool such recreacting of cinema shots Ryan 👍🏻 best cinematic greetings from germany
Old film riot vibes❤
Damn Ryan and team 😍 Old school DIY Film Riot. I love it.

I watch more ad content in your videos now then I actually learn or watch what I come to watch.
Absolutely Loved This ❣❣❣
Please keep doing these thingsss
Thank you! So good! 👏
This is awesome! gotta love diy alternatives !!
Would love to see more of these!
God I love these guys!
Film maker ASMR. I could watch this for 2 hours straight.
Josh :DDDD ripping that mailbox
Awesome! Love this channel
This was a much more interesting episode. Thanks guys. I would love a little more detail though. Maybe more about camera settings used etc. I hope film ruot goes back to this kind of stuff
Love it!
Great video
This definitely motivated me to finally replaced my busted mailbox that I've been suffering for about 2 years now....not film related but still a good outcome!
I bet you could make the death and appearing effect of the bad soldiers n the Adam project using the infinity pack and some displacement map, also really helpful video :)
You are inspiring. Thank you!
Nice info on the color matching. Thanks for sharing.
Soooo, nobody had a camera that could fit inside a perfectly good mailbox?
Am I the only one who started singing we don't talk about bruno when Ryan said there was wasn't a cloud in the sky?
I have come of late to consider filmaking as an addictive succession of beautiful problems
Whaaaaaaaat shot deck that’s amazing
Woooh make this kinda videos more thank you 4 zis also
Love this video!
Great episode!!
Guy with a lot of muscles:
Mailbox:
Very Cool
Where'd your latest video go? The Jurassic park one.
wow Amazing and Very Very Nice Video Superb 👍👍👌👌💯💯🙏🙏
Guys when are you gonna do another short film competition?
Do an outdoor scene recreation
5:20 moment is classic. Not to forget Deathcore? SLAM?
Good job, though, man. You added less grain (on the Insider), but maybe that was intentional. Looks convincing enough for me for the whole mood and I'd watch this if it were a series or a short. And I dont think Ive seen The Insider and If I did back then, I forgot, so good call, ill go check it out
What's the name of the song?
@@r6g6l No idea, havent heard it.
@@r6g6l Magic Show by Kissing Candice
@@AnthonyBolognese Thank you!
FILM RIOT! would love for you to do a lightsaber effect but more recently in line with the SW Trilogy and Mando series! They are less intense and look as if they are trying to make it realistic... especially when they fan... very dim. Thoughts?
fun episode! :)
I know you guys made very simple to understand but its do take a active creative sense as each scene and places or things vary according to the it's shots we choose to replicate . Anyway 😝 yet great🙏 explaination # filmriot rocks
Got my entry for the contest uploaded today: instagram.com/p/CgCL9v9oIsI/
Fingers crossed!

DIY filmmaking in a nutshell: "much more difficult than they anticipated" :))
I hope you do Adam Project vfx!
Well done buddy. Could you recreate the mirror movie scene from Mr. Nobody movie 2009. I am still trying to figure out how they did it. Thanks.
Doesn’t matter how many RUclips videos I watch I never can get the lights right for some reason my brain 🧠 does not connect to my eyes .
Oh happy late birthday Ryan think your Birthday is February 25th
I doubt Russell Crowe was wearing pants either.
just wannna come work with you guys for a few days lol
Swing Zara, swing Zara
ryan be sure to review the gh6. would love it if you could compare it to the blackmagic
Hello 👋 Film Riot's team
I cant name the song after josh gets the mailbox open. what IS ITTTTT
certainly heavy metal...ha
Isn’t she from Watch it Played?
Love how all those pro, expensive lights are DIY
I think a good exercise would be ways of faking the anamorphic look. I know it's been done, but maybe somebody could come up with something else since there's always another way to do everything.
Interesting.
But it would have been a LOT easier if you just used large modern TV a d a couple images on a USB drive.
Being far back enough, it would not cast much light onto the subjects. And would also double as a a bit of environmental lighting. Or just print out a couple cheap poster size prints from Kinkos for about $5. 🤷🏾♂️
That all said, I love that you went practical.
If you could do this you could make a hit movie easy. You just need creativity yall pretty much know how to pull any shot off low budget.
It can't be a Film Riot episode without a dozen comments about how using ANY equipment whatsoever is not DIY or low-budget filmmaking. People will find any excuse to not do the work and get better at their craft.
👏🏼
Very cool video.
Hunt down a bit of green… and KILL IT! :)
2:23.. nothing super complicated ? I lost count on how many lights you used.
great episode! one question though, why not create an actual swastika on a red flag, since that is the actual shape you are trying to emulate?
Thats excalty what im thinking
Why Not use resolve? Half of this is color grading and watching your grade is painful
um so what did the recreations cost?
I mean, this is awesome and all, but definitely on the "high end" of DIY. Lots of cool gear. Anyways, love the show!
This is nowhere near the high end of DIY. Everything here could be done on a cell phone with available lights.
@@SeanofAllTrades
While partly true, that was clearly not his point. They used a high end camera, lens, and lights to achieve their base shot.
That said, the equipment THEY USE is not the point of these videos. But ways to think OUTSIDE THE [mail]BOX to achieve a final result. In this case, the alley, the bush limbs, the playdough, the cardboard, light positioning, camo drape, the already red wall, the LUTs, etc.
In the end, you can use whatever tools you have at your disposal. Film Riot just happens to have high end cameras and lights that save them time. Personally, I would have just slapped on some anti-glare clear plastic over a large flat TV and popped a couple edited background images onto it, via a flash drive. But that would have been MY solution, with MY tools.
@@SeanofAllTrades Sure, but the available lights here were things like nanlite forza 60 with spotlight adapter, nanlite pavotubes, etc. Like I said, I'm not hating on this though. I love it. I wish them to make more and more videos like this. Some of us will just have to adapt it to our own gear.
What was that metal song at 5:25 ?
The nostrils are in light. This is what catches the eye. The skin is too yellow. The rest looks good!
7:16 how do you did that thing?
Is that "symbol" a swastika?
😎😎😎😎😎😍😍
👍👍👍👍👍
"simple DIY" then blasts like 4 or 5 aputure lights in the first shot lol. But the main idea, is great!
The only DIY was the posterboard. LOL!
DIY... Right... And that’s why they used a “Nanlight Forza 360 with a spotlight adapter.”
That was a Nazi flag behind her in the movie. It would've been a lot easier to recreate that if you know what it was😂 Great video guys! Thank you 🍻
Guys, its a swastika, you don't need to be a nazi to know how to draw one. But i understand you just wanted to quickly get the only lines you can see on the background
Curious why y’all didn’t just buy a real bullet for that mailbox shot
DIY? Do that again with ordinary household lights...
First👍 pin📌 plz
No
Liking your own comment, saying first and asking for a pin are cringe all on their own let alone doing it all together.
At 2:24 you said "nothing too complicated" after almost a minute of JUST lighting set ups for the shot... and it wasn't just a light or two. Doesn't seem very DIY. The only thing DIY about this video was the damn background! Then thousands dollars of lighting equipment etc. I miss old film riot... I've been watching you guys since the very beginning. The Adobe premier pro break downs and how to's are so complicated and beyond basic understanding for amateur film makers or aspiring ones. #bringdiyback
