@@Ash_Inferno I think it really depends on your body. The only bit if the review that matches my experience is with the back bolster and adjusting it, very aggressive bolster IMHO. Though I didn't have any oddities with by butt and the back of the chair so not sure what was going on there with the review.
I tried several chairs for 2 months, and it was really tiring at all. But this chair is really GOOD. My size: 1.95 cm 110 kg I'm using this chair for a month with a pillow back and it's AWESOME. I really suggest if you are a big guy like me.
I bought this chair...and didnt feel all these things about the low back. I find it that it really fits for me, Im 6'2 taller and the sit was really good specially with the edges and I didnt feel that bump lip on my butt. About the arms being made of plastic, well I think it's just a matter of taste, for some people, they just don't care. I think it's a nice chair if you work or study and spend more than 5h at your desk
I have been using this chair for a week. I generally like the chair. I needed to use a back pillow in the 3rd and more leaning positions. The pillow fits so well to the chair, so it doesn't matter. However, the front of the chair is higher than the back where you place your buttocks, which applies too much pressure to my under thighs. The front of the chair should bend downwards, not the opposite way. This is why my feet are swollen. If I had the chance, I would bend the first 10 centimeters of metal inside the chair cushion downward by 5 cm. Note: I'm 180 cm tall and using a footrest (without it, I wouldn't be able to sit on the chair for more than a minute at the desired height).
This chair has honestly been the best I’ve ever had. I’m 6ft 4” and find most office chairs to be too small for me but the Gruppspel fits my body perfectly I can see however how this chair wouldn’t be as good for people under 6ft. I did also pay the extra $100AUD to get the leather version but I doubt that would make any difference in my experience.
I’m glad you like it! I’m starting to think you overseas folks either got a better version of this chair or are just built differently. Lots of non USA folks are saying they love it…super curious!
Awesome review Dan! Seriously, IKEA gets so close to 'good' in most of their latest stuff, but just seems to be missing either a feature or quality mark. I still have a 2004 Galant corner desk that has held up really well over the years - but it looks like their newer stuff just keeps going the cheaper route.
For the head support (the lumbar as well), it's like there are 5 gears' positions to adjust, the first 4 is for different height, and the 5th is for reset. So when you pull the head support all the way up, you actually hit the 5th gear and that's why it would just go down/reset again. The tricky part of using it is actually we need to hear and feel the 'clicking' inside the mechanism therefore to reach the right gear position we want.
Still rocking my UpLift Pursuit (which I'll forever request you to do a video on lol) but I can't not watch your chair reviews my man. Super thorough and makes me think about features I wouldn't otherwise!
What happened to IKEA - they used to make (at least) decent chairs and tables for home-office, but now? Every single new release seems to be created by someone, who's never used a computer :(
I just got the chair and am 6' 3" and 300lbs, I can confirm the chair is more than big enough for me, I was expecting it to be on the smaller side, but its actually really big even for me, which was quite a shock to me.
I bought this 6mo ago in beige with the tan strip. Now I have the gaming Embody for my home and within few days of getting that ordered a returned Amia from Crandall to take to work.
Hey man, thanks for the honest review. I visited the nearest Ikea store in my city (Mumbai, India). And after trying out Renberget, Flintan and Gruppspel.. I honestly found all of them equally good, especially when I sat on the Gruppspel, I was like blown away by my first impression of it. Of course it was just based on sitting on it once or twice maybe.. but after watching this video I am totally confused.. whether to trust my instinct or your facts. But ya I think I should revisit the store and test it out if it really is as it presents itself on the first go and can meet my needs. If not I will go either for the other two (Renberget or Flintan or even Odger which I loved the design of)...
I just purchased the chair yesterday after having sat in my son’s chair at his place and during many visits to IKEA. I agree that the arms are cheap. Beyond that I love it. It cups my body like a fitted glove. I don’t have any of the issues you mentioned including no lump on my bum when I sit back. Maybe you have to have a good bun for this bucket seat! 😂😂😂 It is on the firmer side, and I tend to go soft or medium. However I don’t really feel it’s overly firm when I sit. I do feel supported. Arm rests are trash, but I rarely use the armrest while working. I’m 5’4” so I think height and body makeup will determine if you love or hate this chair. I’m can’t believe I spent $369 for it, but the back support was worth it for my autoimmune suffering body!
Damn, I was gonna go into Ikea today and test this chair out, and here you are with a review! Chef's kiss for your swedish pronounciation!! Well A for effort at least heheehe I'm so disappointed though, the way the backrest wobbles like that .. I need a new chair asap because my ikea volmar recently broke and this one looked like a promising replacement :( I am very short though at 5.2" so it might've been okay but that wobbliness nuh-uh. its about 240 usd here in Sweden which STILL is too much for this chair edit: ill sitll go check it out maybe its magically better who knows
@@fireshine4105 I went to test it and I didn't like it that much. I actually managed to fix my ikea volmar a bit so I'm still using it. I still haven't replaced it but I think I might need to soon anyway 😥 I think if you have the possibility to go try out the chairs you should!
Tried it at IKEA and found it quite comfortable. I think you need to point out both pros and cons properly. It seems all IKEA chairs are terrible according to your videos. The chairs you have recommended are not available in Australia and way more expensive.
Hey so I appreciate feedback, so want to respond without sounding like a jerk bc you took time to request something. If you find it comfortable, that’s great though and I always encourage people to think for themselves! What you’re asking me to do though is impossible. I reviewed the chair from the perspective of all the other $400 chairs I’ve reviewed, not from the perspective of “relative to all the chairs available to X countries across the world” bc that just wouldn’t be feasible. I’m sorry some chairs aren’t available in Australia, but I can’t know what is and isn’t available there, so I can only review products based on other products I’ve tested. I ALWAYS look for redeeming factors because I try not to engage in simplistic black/white thinking of the world (see my latest review of the $300 chair). I couldn’t find a lot good about this chair for $400, again, relative to the other chairs I’ve tried in the price range. Also, forgot to mention that you finding it comfortable isn’t necessarily a result of me not presenting pros and cons properly. It’s more likely a result of having different body types/preferences/experiences. That’s why I don’t just give my opinion - I break down measurements, features, shapes, etc. I hope you find this a fair response but if there’s something you think I didn’t present fairly, let me know!
Had such high hopes for this chair :(. Out of the ikea lineup what chair can you recommend? Markus, matchspel, gruppspel, jarf...? darn these names! Again thank you for such a great video
I would recommend you check out the comments section if my other ikea chair review! People sounded off on what chairs they liked even though I personally would get the mfavour ergonomic chair! (Check out my what chair should you buy video!)
Markus for the price, the new ones (just tried today) felt mostly very off, this Gruppspel even though it looks horrific and leather version is very slippery, felt best.
aeroninternational is not in Europe. The Brits decided so. And that means heavy import duties and taxes, as well as long waiting times (just look at the lorry queues in Dover). I did a quick calculation. I can get a new Aeron for about 20% more delivered assembled and fully warrantied to my door. Should I ever have an issue with the used one, I'd have to ship it back to the UK, outside Europe, meaning high costs and lots of issues. So those guys are not an alternative unless they open a shop here on the continent. Sorry English friends, but you voted for it, you now got it.
Hey baka, mind if I email you or could you email me? (Ahntouragemedia@gmail.com) I’m pretty naive about how Europe works and am very sensitive about who I work with as sponsors. I’d love to learn more so I can decide whether to work with these guys in the future.
@@Ahnestly I don't mind if you email me but there's not much to say. They do ship to Europe, but they don't include the tax and duties, so you'll have to pay for those once you receive the parcel. They should at least mention this, so people would be prepared and could see if the price was still OK. The border between the UK and the rest of Europe, the EU or European Union, is basically now the same as between the EU and the rest of the world. The UK voted in their Brexit referendum that they wanted out, and so it happened. Which means we now have a hard customs border between us. They should rejoin the European common market, then this would no longer be an issue, but it would mean conforming to EU market rules, which the Brexiteers explicitly refuse. Thus, the best option for companies like aeroninternational would be to set up a warehouse and a few personel in a EU country, doesn't matter which one - between EU members the borders are open and require very little paperwork. But I get that the number of sales they get might not make this economically viable. Best option for now is to at least just mention the extra taxes and duties people will have to pay to avoid unpleasant surprises. I would not say this makes them an unreliable company or sponsor. It unfortunately does mean I won't be buying from them, even if I do want an Aeron. Not because I don't trust them, nor do I care that they're in the UK (this is not a political issue). It's just that their prices aren't as nice once you calculate all the involved costs. Shipping is around 25% of the chair. Price plus shipping is then the base used to calculate import duties. Those duties are added to the total, which then is subject to sales tax. This varies per country but is around 20%. Do the math, it no longer makes sense for me to get a used chair from them, better to save my pennies for a new one. For people in the UK, they're a great option.
First of all, it’s clear not all heroes wear capes. Thank you so much for this - for even taking the time to explain the issue to me when you could have just left me and others in the dark and then clarifying how to view the business as a whole. You are amazing and I really really appreciate it!!!
Hi Baka, thanks for the feedback- so in regards to the customs yes unfortunately this is an issue we now face - we are aware of the hefty fees that can be added on and although in some regions it still works out cheaper for the chair plus delivery plus import fees we are aware that for some countries local sellers still work out cheaper- we are currently working on this and are opening a warehouse within the EU so chairs can go out through Europe without the customs tax currently incurred- we will be fully integrating this into our operations within the next few weeks We do currently state in our product descriptions thats customs tax will be incurred as we currently use UPS however rolling out in the next few days we will be increasing the shipping slightly and we will have the customs charges charged to us and not the buyer as a tempory measure until we have our facility within the EU up and running We’d like to thank you for your helpful feedback
How’s the weather up there? …freak. Totally not my short height insecurity/jealousy talking…yup…definitely not that…hahahaha. Thanks for commenting. If you have this chair or check it out, would love to get your thoughts!!
My setup is right in the middle of a mid-century modern livingroom. I'm in need of a chair that would not look garish, so I had my eyes on this one in beige. Why is it so difficult to find a comfortable chair that would tie with the rest of the furniture? Seriously now.

I might be in the minority but I actually found the chair uncomfortable. I don't like how the lower end of the seat back cushion bulges out to the point where you could feel it jabbing at the bottom of your back. The fact that the cushion itself is quite hard doesn't help either. I find that my back (particularly around the hip area) tends to ache a little if I sit on this chair for a prolonged period of time. I struggle to get comfortable in this chair when using my computer or watching TV.
I want to buy the black top grain leather vision. But I did not get the chance to try it, and I was afraid that the leather could be stiff to seat on, comparing with gray fabric one. Anyone one who tried both has any suggestions about the materials ? Many thanks!
I testes both and ended up buying the leather one. It was more premium than the fabric version but the down side is its slippery and cold in the winter and hot in the summer
That lip is a huge problem indeed. Big let down. I found the Styrspel somewhat more comfy, but the problem I had with both of these chairs is that they just couldnt get the back "tight enough" as to when I want to sit and actually do work in them, they're both way to declined by default without any way to adjust it which is a very weird design choice :(
Hey Dan, just came across your channel. I've been having some back problems for a while and just updated my setup. One question I have though, what's your opinion on headrests? My current chair doesn't have one but my previous one did. I prefer to sit upright and rarely lean my chair back. Thanks man, subscribed.
Oh wait, I totally commented on the wrong comment lolll!! If you rarely lean back, don’t get one. Headrests can be detrimental to your neck muscles if you use it all the time!
@@Ahnestly ah, now it makes sense! Haha. Thanks man, I never lean back in my chair, so perhaps it's not for me. I was also wondering if you had any experience with stacking monitors? Instead of having the standard side by side setup. Strikes me that you'd get a lot of neck pain but I don't know.
You should review some sest cushions for work/gaming chairs. With everyone working home I think it'll be pretty popular and pair well with your other videos 🤟
Not many options for me here in the Philippines. My only alternative is a Secret Lab and it's super expensive here, though at least available. There are a few places that sell a few Herman Miller but they are imported and taxed like shit. So I'm gonna buy this one. I'm Asian size anyway so a lot of the issues don't affect. Wish me luck cos I'm buying this tomorrow. Ikea just opened here last month.
That’s odd! Try unlocking the back tilt, lean back more until you hear a click, and then see if that works? If not, ikea has a solid warranty - you could prob just return or exchange!
i don't understand the self lock system, its makes the seat a pain in the arse to move when you're not sitting on it! absolutely pointless! who puts a chair on a slope and needs it to lock when no one is sitting on it! Stupid AF!
So now you are pronouncing in German accent instead of Swedish accent when you review our products? As a Swede Im already feeling offended. Great review however!
FIRST OF ALL I LOVE your username. Damn. Takes me back. Second, UGHHH I’m sorry!!! I took German in high school so it’s the only language reference I have haha. I didn’t know how to use google translate and apparently was getting the American pronunciation of “gruppspel” even though it auto detected Swedish (apparently you have to set it to Swedish and not just let it auto detect to get the right pronunciation!). And third, German and Swedish don’t seem that far off! “Spel” is pronounced just like “spiel” in German and spel and spiel both mean game!

We do currently state in our product descriptions thats customs tax will be incurred as we currently use UPS however rolling out in the next few days we will be increasing the shipping slightly and we will have the customs charges charged to us and not the buyer as a tempory measure until we have our facility within the EU up and running
We’d like to thank you for your helpful feedback
Good review. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!!
Great review!
I had the same problem for my ikea matchspel chair. It would have been a killer chair if the headrest are adjustable
very good review, thanks
6'5" Freak of nature, checking-in.
For like $400, you might be able to get a used Herman Miller Sayl, which looks pretty modern!
@@Ahnestly THANK YOU! I took a look and that chair would be perfect! Thank you again!

I found the Styrspel somewhat more comfy, but the problem I had with both of these chairs is that they just couldnt get the back "tight enough" as to when I want to sit and actually do work in them, they're both way to declined by default without any way to adjust it which is a very weird design choice :(
Actually, the Uppspel desk is very good, just not with the height adjustment legs. You buy the desk and place it on whatever you want.
Yo Ahn, can you do a review of the Staples Dexley chair? Planning to get one but dont know if its worth it.
idk what happened with ikea… prices are increasing and the quality decreasing
Hey Dan, just came across your channel. I've been having some back problems for a while and just updated my setup. One question I have though, what's your opinion on headrests? My current chair doesn't have one but my previous one did. I prefer to sit upright and rarely lean my chair back. Thanks man, subscribed.
Hey Ross, yong and I texted yesterday about our thoughts. I think he responded on TBG?
@@Ahnestly oh cool man, not familiar with TBG? Do you mean posture guru? Thanks
Tbg = the blind guys!!! Hahaha
Do you think you would be able to review the Haworth Fern or Fern Executive?
APPRECIATE YO DETAIL AND THOROUGHNESS
Hi , i'm new here , can you tell me what to buy in range of 300-400 USD ? cuz that one is not ok i guess ...
Check out my video on "What chair should you buy?"
@@Ahnestly thanks
you are the youtube chair guy. nobody offers so many details
Thank you!!
Can you review a UPLIFT Pursuit Ergonomic Chair its been around for years and i want your opinion on it
I reached out!
Probably have to purchase from there site
Dan Ahn: "I don't like lip touching my🍑" 🤔 😂
I appreciate good information paired with good cinematography. Thanks for the video.
I love touching my butt. Hahahaha thanks for the support!!
Did you ever review or sat in this chair Ikea STYRSPEL
Great review, thanks for the info. FYI, the expression you were looking for at 3:50 is "consolation prize", not "compensation prize", heh.
Yeah I’m just dumb. Hahahaha thanks for the kind words!!!
Wow thanks bro !!

Ikea chairs are really bad, glad you didn't shill this trash. Thanks alot for the honesty.
i guess i need to head out to ikea to test it out
in need of a new desk and desk chair looks like this isnt the one, i have an old shitty chair w a lock for the back.
man, very well said!
Man, Aeron International is the pro tip...
You should review some sest cushions for work/gaming chairs. With everyone working home I think it'll be pretty popular and pair well with your other videos 🤟
I’ll try! I opted not to review one that was sent to me because it raised my aerons seat higher but I’ll see if any out there interest me!
I only sit in a leaned back position, so to me the tilt resistance is redundant/never used. But for those I can see how they would like it
You lean back all the way? Interesting!
@@Ahnestly I lean back significantly and stay leaned back. I never sit upright for any period of time
I just bought this chair.
Should I return it? There are not so many options in my country Israel, if someone found something better I loved to hear
Hey man, at the end of the day, do you like it? Bc if you do, then who cares what I said! If you like it, then it’s worth it!!
@@Ahnestly I need to try the chair for a longer term, it need to be assemble. in the meanwhile it always good to hear another opinion
@@itayadler8565 Hi, I was looking for it too. Any updates? Does it feel good or did you returned it?
@@GrimmerPl great chair! Exactly what I needed
What!? U cant lock the chiar when tilting??????????
Sgporean here
Tried this chair at ikea.
Its good .
Im short at 157cm
Only thing is armest filmsy
thanks for vid!
Hey Ahnestly can you review about $200 sharkoon chairs?
Can the tilt not be locked at any position? That's a deal breaker.
RIGHT!? I complain about this ALL THE TIME
I've tried this at my local ikea, I'm fairly sure it can be locked at 3 positions, I'm picking one up today actually 😁
It can be locked at different angles not sure what on earth he was doing there.
Re. Aeroninternational, even their cheapest basic aeron shipped and taxed amounts to 800€+... That's a nope for me.
What's that backpack on the wall?? 🔭
Peak Design bag baby. Mine is an older design, but I absolutely LOVE all things Peak Design!
as a 6,4 guy, I can confirm... it's a chair.
lolol
Commenting for algorithm
Heyyy really REALLY appreciate it!!
Have you tried IKEA Styrspel chair?
I cant find any used aerons here in the philippines
Reminds me of the humanscale freedom.
That chair destroyed my back...
I locked mine in the reclined position and now it’s stuck like that forever😀 Anyone know how to fix
That’s odd! Try unlocking the back tilt, lean back more until you hear a click, and then see if that works? If not, ikea has a solid warranty - you could prob just return or exchange!
@@Ahnestly omg thanks it worked!!! I feel so stupid now.
subbed for you bro :*
Thank you!!!
Great chair...confortable
As a 6'4 dude with gorilla arms (stretches halfway down my legs) no chair is comfortable :/
Yikes. Shipping a used Aeron increases the cost by 50%. Then on top of that I have to pay sales tax and an import fee :D
They noted that they're working on getting a place setup in Europe to reduce those fees. Stay tuned!!
sihoo m57 please
Stop reading my mind. I tried getting sihoo to give one away but they were being weird about it. Hoping to review in the next month or so!
You should encourage people to buy a used but reputable chair in this price range.
I do :) my used aeron video has 1 million views
you need to review casters!
Cries in south east Asia
lolll :-(
just what i wanted to see :)
Glad i could help!!
Did you get that chair as a gift and showed them that video? That is just so cruel.
I want this chair so bad but I recently bought a IKEA Jarvfjallet 😭
Not sure who needs to hear this but ikeas return policy is EXCELLENT….
Ngl, this chair is the worst chair I've ever sat on. The backrest is absolute dogshit
Man doesnt seem worth the price tag at all
Luckily I didn't buy it. Just looking around more for a better deal with a good gaming chair.
ima need the deskgradmas isnt cutting it anymore lol
gruppspel means group game
Very similar to German!
Yea that cushion isn’t comfy at all
If you are 6' or close move along. The headrest will bite on your shoulders
400 usd for this chair wow, it dosent worth it at all, my steelcase that i got used for 150usd is much better
I find it hard to believe people spread there legs out when sitting down 🤣
You never lean back and sprawl your legs open? That's the best for relaxing!
@@Ahnestly nope I find it uncomfortable 😅
i don't understand the self lock system, its makes the seat a pain in the arse to move when you're not sitting on it! absolutely pointless! who puts a chair on a slope and needs it to lock when no one is sitting on it!
@@Ahnestly you seem like a good guy, i'll give you a pass brosef!
Butchering pronunciation as always. As well as good video, as always.
