      @@vanitykillsfr so ... i have to say, the laptop is really beautiful, built like a stone, performance is unbelievable as already mentioned in the video is not only for gaming but also for editing videos is just fun. I have to complain about something though, and I don't get warned about it often enough, the speakers are so incredibly bad, with such a premium product you would never expect something like that, but my smartphone sounds better honestly. the lows and bass do not exist at all, no matter what you adjust on the equalizer, and when you turn up the volume, the music sounds distorted and it crackles from the speakers, really amazing, you would think you had built-in speakers from wish or alibaba. if everything else wasn't so good, I would send it back, but since I work with good headphones as well, I keep it anyway. i would recommend the laptop to everyone, it's a beast, but buy headphones or external speakers as well. 😅🤙

I'm looking forward to the mechanical keyboard, and for $20/month, no worries about warranty. My R4 was a tank, but out of the box 99c on the CPU gaming, requiring a paste. The 1080 couldn't do much at 4K. The idea that I can jump from business work to GTA5 maxed 4K at 60FPS, on a laptop, is phenomenal with the new 3080s. The best advice for getting any Alienware laptop or PC is to sign up for a Dell account, subscribe to the mailing list, and wait for a sale. If you are a little bit flexible about what you want you can get massive discounts. I came across an insanely good deal on x17 R1s and pulled the trigger right away, glad I did because the next day they were gone from the website.

  • @OneAnimationYT

    Im still torn between this and the m17 r4, if your going to pick only one, disregarding the price and based only on the performance, which will it be? I hope you can answer my question. 🙋🏻‍♂️

    • @Mike_Jones281
      @Mike_Jones281 3 года назад +12

      I would choose x17 all day. I brought an M17 r4, and it was DOA and had overheating issues, even after it was repaired and had the thermal paste reapplied by Dell. Eventually, Dell said they would let me return the M17 r4 and exchange it for the x17. Since I got the x17, I have had zero issues.
      The M17 r4 is a flawed design, in my opinion. Not only is everything soldered onto the board, making repairs for simple components costly and time-consuming, but it also lacked the cooling capacity to properly cool and preserve your components in the long run.

    • @JustinTechTips
      @JustinTechTips  3 года назад +12

      Hey One, Mike Jones nailed it! Yes I would 100% choose this over the m17 R4. It’s got better technology that is engineered better to cool down the laptop faster. The benchmarks I’ve seen of the m17 R4 with an rtx3080 have been lower than the x17 as well. I have an m17 r3 and the battery is also way better than that one too

    • @MrPIN360
      @MrPIN360 3 года назад +3

      Did a bot write this? How do you make a choice and not take price into consideration? Obviously the newer x17 is going to perform better than the older m17 r4 when all things are configured properly, but for the price???? You can get a m17 r4 with the same 3080, a 360hz gsync display, a full keyboard w/num pad, the AGA port, and a 10980hk for at least 1000 dollars cheaper.
      But you're asking if you can disregard the price and tell you which one will give you a maybe 5 or 10 percent performance boost for a thousand dollars more.
      HAHAHAHAHA.

    One of the things I am concerned about laptops in general is for how long the manufacturer will provide spare or replacement parts for them. I appreciate it when manufacturers continue to support their laptops which they have stopped producing.
    For example, the Alienware 15 R4 laptop is already discontinued by Dell, having come out in 2018. It was quite an expensive laptop as of 2019, around $2k US. Without spare of replacement parts, we could have a useless laptop just because only one of its many parts died. That would be a shame.
    I like a laptop to last for 7 to 10 years when stored in its box overnight, wiped with a glasses cloth after each day of use, and kept cool and mostly free of dust. Using a laptop can become quite expensive if it has to be replaced too often.

    • @JustinTechTips

    I've had my X17 for a month now. Out of the box the left speaker crackled when emitting windows notification sounds. Dell sent a tech to replace the speakers only for the right to then be buggy. So I had them replaced again. Still blown out. At this point I'm replacing the whole thing and I wouldn't recommend buying one.

    Nice review bro, good detail and video quality.
    I have my x17 (ordered in late June) on the way too, my nitpicks on x17 are:
    1. Keyboard layout, but it's okay, I will use my external keyboard mostly.
    2. Gigantic power adapter. This really kills the mood. For a slim sleek design, they give such an ugly huge brick, Dell must fix this asap. I will use x17 at home most of the time as a desktop replacement. So, I kind of can ignore this brick.
    3. No Mux or Adv Optimus on 4K UHD screen. This is a disappointment and there is not much workaround because I have no other good screen (my other screen is just an old 1080p 60Hz). I will use x17's screen as my main for everything and I don't want 1080p too.
    I still think Lenovo Legion 7 is a better bang for the buck option. But I can live with x17's cons because I like the design and the build quality seems really good too.

    • @JustinTechTips
      @JustinTechTips  3 года назад +1

      Yeah Pisacha, the power adapter is pretty insane. I'm glad it still fits in my laptop case though. If you ever plan to use your machine out and about and don't need it to be fast for gaming or rendering you could always use a usbc power cable instead of carrying around that giant thing.

I've had 2 brand new X15's now that I sent back because no matter what I changed the colors to, when I used the performance mode it reset them all back to the default RGB "wave" scheme.
    Dell tech's have told me i'm the only one reporting this issue, but I find it funny that 2 identically spec'd X15's in a 3 month period had the same issues.

    Whilst browsing through videos today, I came across this earlier review. I've never actually heard the issue about the latest BIOS release underclocking its RAM but, in retrospect, I am glad we haven't done this yet to our own X17.
    The pricing is something we have simply put up with - in the UK, few system integrators sell an extended, onsite service with their hardware, and those that do only offer this on repairs, not upgrades... Dell's proposition is a worthwhile trade-off for the money. As for the numpad, I hope most creatives invest in a StreamDeck, or maybe CM's ControlPad, versus a conventional augment.

    I almost went with this or the x15. But had some massive issues with Dell customer service with my older revision 1 area51m. In two years I’ve had the hybrid drive fail twice. I’m fairly certain this second hybrid drive is on its way out, so I asked why they couldn’t just let me install windows on a 2.5 inch sata ssd drive and ditch the hybrid drive. Told me it was impossible despite numerous people getting actual Dell technicians to do the same for them. Seems like the x17 is a decent enough machine, but Jesus does dell/ Alienware treat consumers like absolute trash. Great video though, super in depth review and lots of useful information!

Even after a full reset and os install, it seems to be bogged down by the hard drive and runs pretty slow at 100% constantly). Seems like a solid state drive should do the trick. Any thoughts? Or am I thinking about it wrong? I just can’t see what else would be the issue at this point

      @@JustinTechTips My X17 just came in, it's got some imperfections in the rgb trackpad, they look like little tiny white specs... either they're dead pixels or bubbles trapped in the glass they use to make the TouchPad, I was wondering if your x17 had any such imperfections in the touchpad?

    I'm replacing my Alienware 17 R5 (8th gen i7-8750H with 1070gtx). I knew I wanted the x17 with the 3080rtx but was on the fence about the i7 or i9. This helped me pull the trigger on the i7. Since the i7 is already performing where I want I have a feeling the i9 thermal throttling would kill most of the potential benefit not worth the premium cost

      -set display to 60hz instead of the 120hz (no videos online are more than 60fps so higher than that is a waste)

      In Alienware Command Center
