@@ShenmueChannelIf the anime wasn't restricted to 13 episodes then you could add more details to the show like Ryo struggling and certain interactions from the game not shown in the anime. The anime did the best it could under the circumstances.
If you're a Shenmue fan, then it's definitely worth watching. It's main flaw is that the story was rushed and very fast paced, due to them wanting the cram the whole story of the first two games into 13 episodes. This made some iconic scenes in the games get cut, although some scenes were necessary to cut since they're filler and don't really affect the main story in any way.
@@ShenmueChannel two more episodes would've done it IMO. Some more time in Hong Kong and one more episode for the mountain path. Still a great show though
It was cool to see Yamagishi-san actually interact with Iwao. Iwao's appearance in the games was so little since he was killed off in the intro of the game.
So they took the fairly realistic fights and made it standard anime, with a teenager overpowering a group of grown men while he’s being held in place? Fucking hell this series is never going to conclude with all these cancellations.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 he's only 18. They had a missed opportunity- they replicated the game instead of focusing on the parts we didn't see in a standard play through (like Ryo having to physically get stronger and how revenge was eating away at him, dropping out of school and pushing away people who care for him, like Nozomi.) The fight scenes are static, they should have made visually tense but aesthetic fights where Ryo isn't winning clean, where he's getting beaten up but clinging on to his revenge and anger to help him get through what should have been animations that captured blow for blow tension. (Sadly they probably had a limited budget)
@@RogueASMRWith only 13 episodes to work with and having to include both games, it's not a surprise what the anime turned out to be. It's good for what it is, the basic story of both games and the fighting Ryo does is easily explained for people who may have never played the games. If the anime had more episodes you could explore all the interactions/things we don't see in the games, and the fighting could have been made better. Unfortunately, this is what we got just like Shenmue 3.
I kinda wish the fighting scenes were slower and had more real form and movement. Kinda just looks like a typical anime fight but I’ll probably end up watching the whole show anyways
I general the whole show was very fast paced, since they were trying to cram the story of the first two games into 13 episodes. However, if you're a huge Shenmue fan, then it's definitely worth watching.
0:48 he's doing the Yamcha pose
Lol! I've never noticed that!
@@ShenmueChannel thanks for the heart
Ryo is a frickin beast in the anime.
In all honesty, I wish he wasn't too OP. Would have been better if he sometimes had a little struggle in fighting, to make the scenes more intense.
I mean he isn’t perfect, and there are scenes where he is knocked out from ambushes
Its pretty cringe tbh. What made the game good (realism) is replaced by typical mambo jumbo shounen antics

I've not had chance to watch the anime yet but this looks great!
Such a shame its been cancelled.

@@ShenmueChannelMan, the Bai Hu and Dou Niu fight scenes were so freaking bad😭😭😭

So we’ll animated, I mean, you can easily recognize each character from the game. Even Yamagashi-San

Isn’t Ryo an adult too?

He went like: "Chen who?". BTW, Didn't even know this even existed.
how come yakuza not have an anime yet?
This is awesome 🤩
#SHENMUEANIME2
I didn’t know they had an anime I can’t wait
Virtua Fighter? In 1986?
Yea, good observation. Makes no sense.
To be fair Ryo had a Sega Saturn and a Virtua Fighter poster at his house in the game so yeah nothing really makes sense.
Sonic franchise in 1986.

Now, SOmebody needs to make a Shenmue: The Animation but with Shenmue 1 sounds.
I love the John Shenmue anime
Looks and feels kinda like Jojo's
