- Dr. Chinonso Emmanuel Okorie and MSF Norway General Director Lindis Hurum explain how MSF is committed to better representation of our diverse global workforce in our comms and fundraising despite a harmful legacy of using “white savior” images.
This film is an updated version of a Norwegian film we posted in September. We received many requests for an English version and it has been sent to our other offices around the world. This has also been posted again following feedback on image use, which has now been improved.
Very interesting campaign on recognizing other non stereotypical ways of communicating. It would be great to know about What happens to the local health systems when MSF is not present anymore? Do you have any learning on applying the Do no Harm approach?
@@hectormoralespeace Thanks for your question. Here is one example, but a fairly representative one. MSF typically trains local staff and donates equipment and supplies to ensure continued capacity when handing over to local health authorities: ruclips.net/video/FH-Ddfc3jgA/видео.html
Nice Anti White Propaganda well done.
Thank you for starting this conversation! This is how we change the world by taking responsibility for our part in the mess and taking steps to fix it. Well done!
Awesome. as a former MSF staff I really loved this video. MSF is able to localise more with this new leadership.
Truth! Thank you for this anti-racism campaign and for sitting and facing the truth.
I think that this video is a great idea that shows self-awareness of this very influencial organisation and gives a powerful message. I am impressed.
Thank you for posting this video. I was struggling with the optics of MSF. I am sending a Black American doctor to Sudan in a feature film screenplay I am writing and everything I found represented the 'White Savior' narrative. This is wonderful and I learned so much from your presentation. Thank you again.
Beautifully done MSF- bravo for the courage it took to make and share with the world!!
Do I love hearing the truth? Yes I do. Thank you for showing us it's possible to hear it from such a large organisation, and here's hoping many more adopt a more truthful approach, like you do. Hats off to you.
Glad to see this change happening. As a former staff in Uganda, DRC & Sudan this is encouraging. More is yet to be done though. Hope other INGOs should equally follow the trail too.
Doctors without borders becoming humans without borders 🙏🏽❤️
What an excellent thing this is - well done Doctors without Borders. An honest and well articulated approach. Fantastic.
I will share this. This is a power message in decolonising humanitarian assistance. Thank you for recognising your past mistake.
Absolutely in love with this! Thank you so much for sharing the full picture and addressing these important issues!
Such a great and touching way to work on own blind spot. I directly donated again. Small (or not so small) remark: The "Thank you"-Page that is shown after the donation is showing a white woman with a black baby again...
Merci et BRAVO pour cette communication très inspirée et très inspirante ! ❤
Thank you fo showing the entire truth! That is really important. Thanky ou for your powerful message!
Inspiringly Brilliant👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿.
Kudos to Doctors Without Borders for taking responsibility for their actions! Diversity, equity, and inclusion is the new frontier in international development.
no it's not. DIE is devisive evil and toxic ideology
A brilliantly articulated video, this is so positive to see, thank you MSF for daring to embark on this important journey and reframe the narrative. I will be taking inspiration from this into my own communications work in the sector.
I see two amazing doctors from different parts of the world.
Beautiful!! Absolutely love this. Thank you doctors without Borders for all the amazing work you do ♥️
Well done, great leadership in showing a more realistic picture.
Thank you for sharing this so openly.
Such an amazing and much-needed change. Bravo!
Wow this is beautiful. Thanks for embracing the full story in this brave way.
Except a non-colonial approach is also to look at the solution through a lens that gives agency to its people not just to MSF: as in a vision that is fuelled by the people it is said to serve, rather than by the "experts" standing outside, programs imagined with its people.
This is awesome. Thanks for this realization..
Well done !!!! It´s never too late.
love this video and the mindset behind it - well done
I really appreciate this mindset shift!!
I have a question though, what about the differences in salaries and treatment of the people who come from western countries, compared to the ones who come locally? Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate the fact that the MSF organization is beginning to acknowledge this issue, but a petition was already signed by more than 1100 of your colleagues who are people of color, and they addressed the issues of differential treatment(both in the amount of work, salaries, sick leaves and such), and this was 4 years ago. Is anything done about this? Considering that the people in management positions are still, mostly, white… words can be a great tool in expressing change, but what about actual action?
Thank you!
NGO-ization refers to the professionalization, bureaucratization, and institutionalization of social movements as they adopt the form of nongovernmental organizations. It led to NGOs' depoliticizing discourses and practices of social movements.
Excelente! Thank you!
This is brilliant, well done.
Point of order, he's not black Sudanese and she's not a French white woman. They are both souls made from the same light of God having a human experience. That's the truth that can end so much strife and division for everyone.
This is freaking awesome!
I worked with admin/1st mission inexperienced HRCO who's been discriminative / institutionaly rascist/xenophobic and utterly rude person. ocba, Ukraine, summer 2022. If msf had really cared - they would get in touch to eliminate discrimination, not promote it.
Is the pay the same as well?
Was thinking the same!
And this exactly is what so many have had conflict with. The pay isn’t the same, the living conditions for those who sign in isn’t the same. While this is a nice video, it’s says nothing about the real issue.
What happens to the local health systems when MSF is not present anymore? Do you have any learning on applying the Do no Harm approach?
this is so so so amazingggggggg
let's prove them wrong and listen to the whole story
Where's the LinkedIn page gone? Removed it from LinkedIn....to rewrite history....we see you....
Courageous it is not, in a time when exactly this is the mainstream narrative and ideal. inclusion and diversity. good you do it, probably. but it is so easy now, the easiest way/trend to go with now. No 👏👏 from me for going with the herd exactly when everyone is on the same route finally.
all i see is the video of them in South Africa looting meat
No offence but couldn't you have the Nigerians speak Yoruba? Igbo? The Kenyans speaking Swahili?
Up next. Put your money where your mouth is and address pay gaps.
Oh, you changed the first version of the video ? Children with blurred faces now. Next step : actually do something.
Hahaha
Why did you delete my comments MSF? Scared of the truth?
Guess you realised not blurring the photos of the children's faces was as racist and wrong as the things you are saying you wont do...but don't worry we got the original version and will show people your efforts to rewrite history. Disgusting behaviour.
you are increasing your marketing scam !!!
Honestly, would it hurt to get a guy who speaks English without that wierd Accent. As an Asian (with an accent that is mocked as incomprehensible) , I am trying hard everyday to better my English and I feel that is one of the reasons why the white saviour complex exists, because they are more relatable.
It’s not weird, your just dumb
What an absolutely unnecessary video
This is such a non story .. the centre of the story has always been and always will be the victims the injured the people who need help .. stop with the virtue signalling focus on your mission ..
Im 53..been many places in the world..never met or seen a black doctor
