    These were very popular in the scrappage scheme which sent many Rovers (and other interesting cars) to an early grave.

      Very popular amongst a certain demographic along with the picanto. There's an old Rover dealer just down the road from me who swapped to Hyundai and has now gone back to MG so they're everywhere where I live.

    In a display of some very questionable thinking there was a period where my employers insisted on providing me with a hire car if I had to go somewhere rather than just bunging me the standard 45p a mile for using my own. I didn’t like this plan, I like my car which is why I bought it and I’m used to it. One day the car hire people bought one of these for me to use, but the updated one. A 2017 one. It looked like a car that a child had drawn, the inside was like a cheap car and it had an engine that made noise like an engine but didn’t really propel the car quite as quickly as an engine really should. It also used an unexpectedly large amount of fuel as I had to thrash the poor thing in order to get anywhere at a pace I considered viable. I didn’t really like it but then I resented it for not being as nice as my car and for preventing me from making a couple of quid on the mileage claim and I had to go on a motorway for a bit which is not what this car was designed for. As if having to go to Nottingham wasn’t punishment enough. Maybe I was a little harsh in my evaluation but as I don’t see a time where I will have to drive one of these again I guess that’s that. I feel the same about the similar vintage Toyota Aygo, I prefer a VW Up!

      @@ProjectNigelMy sister has an Aygo, the Carlos Fandango white version with the fancy red roof and jazzy interior. For me the Aygo is one of those rare cars where having a high spec one makes all the difference, the boggo ones feel pretty drab in comparison to the Christmas Tree version. The interior bits feel quite nice in that hard, shiny iPod plastic sort of way and the centre console bit reminds me of a stormtrooper’s helmet. Drives like an i10.

    Great review of a charmingly competent little car. I’m not surprised you liked it. I had to borrow a friend’s i20 a couple of years ago and was amazed at how much I liked it. My Legacy at the time was off the road and I had to make a trip to the Lakes and back. I was expecting to dislike it - especially it’s lack of pace and handling, but once I’d discovered that it needed proper revving, I had a hoot with it on the A65 and it kept up with everything!

    The I10 what can i tell you about them. One i am not particularly found of them. I have had to replace Gearboxs in them the timing chain is a weak point on them. Also they dont seem to be well put together but this purely my opinion. As fore the Gearboxs and Timing chain that is a fact. They are made for people who just needs transport. The problem with that is because its cheap people don't bother to look after them normally they just drive it until it goes bang. Or thing's pop of it. 😂😂 All in a good review Paul. 👍

    They are better than you think they are going to be. I got one in washing machine white and I thought it looked a bit white goodsy. However, it did alright with it's little 1.2 engine. They do what they do well. I have to say, they look better in black with alloys, but that's just me. lol

    If you could buy a car from the middle isle in Aldi... I would like to see a test of the Kia picanto. I've always noticed they have disk brakes on the back. Not an interesting fact but it makes me wonder if they are any good. They're not cheap enough for me to buy just out of curiosity yet!

    Good review. Just saying. Still deciding whether I like my Dad's Passat Estate since 2010 I haven't made up my mind. On its last legs the poor thing at 300k and I will miss it! Had to park it today. Kept stalling because the DSG box and flywheel is going. I'm not used to the size of it. With the dodgy parallel parking and stalling, we needed one of your keyboard jingles! Definitely had and element of ridiculousness!😂

      @alextoft9199 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@ProjectNigel well... 😅 there is definitely something quite funny about someone driving up the street very confidently only to get it wrong. The Passat is a very serious car and watching it go pointlessly backwards and forwards because the person inside thinks the space is much smaller than it actually is certainly adds a comic element! Speed it up the footage to one of your jingles and it would be side-splittingly funny 😅 such a shame because I had such a great drive up from Aberdeen only to MESS IT UP AT THE END! 😅 The best bit was when I forgot it wasn't a manual and used the brake like the clutch!

    Have to completely disagree with you, I'm afraid. I drove one of these for a couple of weeks, years ago after crashing my Rover 200. After being given a brand new Ford Fiesta as a courtesy car while I was waiting for an insurance assessment, I was then subject to the i10 as a hire car while waiting for my payout, and it was honestly one of the worst cars I had ever driven. You noted already about the cheapness of the interior, but it also felt far too tall and yet far too squashed to sit inside, and the clutch was frustratingly snatchy, to the point that it always felt like it was either on or off, rather than having any feel to it at all. My former driving instructor at the time actually said a few of his colleagues had returned theirs because their driving students found the clutch control entirely impossible to get to grips with in them.
    Just for context, I'd only had my driving licence less than a year when I was driving it, so it's not like I was accustomed to higher quality (I'd had a Fiat Punto, the aforementioned Rover 200 and a brand new Ford Fiesta for about 3 days beforehand), but 11 years (any many, many cars) later, I've still never driven a car as bad as the i10!

    • @ProjectNigel
      @ProjectNigel  9 месяцев назад +1

      I found the clutch to be nice and easy on this. Remember that these were made cheaply so they could be sold cheaper. The interior plastics are not like those in more expensive cars because they're more expensive. Yeah?
