In this video I take my Mark V Deluxe in 340 Weatherby to the range to see if I can beat Reloading Quest in a range shoot out. He is taking his Model 70 in 338 Win mag. Which gun shoots better? Come find out!
In my 340 WBY I used 86 gr of RL 22 and a Fed 215 and got 3050 fps with 3/4 in groups ! Thanks for all your hard work for us !…….
Man, i was hoping for more 338 action.
Sorry
338 is expensive….
Beautiful range back ground
It sure is
Man that 7mm is smoking good! And the 340 l sure wouldn't complain.
Thanks for watching!
Gotta love the 338 caliber. ❤
Free recoiling a 340 weatherby Mag that definitely didnt seem un manageable. Didnt look like the scope was looking for a bite either. I have some bigger calibers that are similar and some old 30-06's you need a rachet strap to shoot comfortably
A light rifle in 30-06 is not fun.
Its an 8½ pound rifle naked. Not gonna move too much
You need a 270 weatherby magnum next
I just bought a savage 111 in 338 Win Mag.... p.s. i hate the 6.5 anything 😂
LOVE to see Timp!!!
I use the 225 TTSX Barnes with 85.0 grains of H4831SC. I get 2920 fps but it's really consistent with a standard deviation of 3 fps. I load it to the COL of 3.660" specified in the Barnes manual. It shoots around 3/4" groups.
You must have old Norma brass

Great video. Really enjoying your channel!
Thanks
Awesome video in needof 338 bullets also
Excited to see ur results 🤘🏻
Enjoyed watching as always.
Thanks for watching
What’s the .340 recoil with a brake like compared to your .300 with no brake?
340 with a brake is like my 300 without the brake
@@ReloadingWeatherbybut the 340 without a brake is like getting punched by Tyson when he was 20. But hey weatherby guys like us love the tickle of a magnum round at least I know I do 😂
Have you considered running the 300 grain Accubond in your 340 Wby? I ran that bullet in my 338 Win Mag several years ago and while it was fun and I did take an elk with it, it was really pushing the 338. But, the 340 Wby, brings way more to the game with that bullet. The BC is something over .700 if I recall correctly.
I've thought about it... Im just not sure I can get the velocities I want in a 300 gr bullet to get that Accubond to perform at it's best. If I run it real hot... I probably could get 2800 FPS. At those velocities I would rather run a none bonded bullet
Good job guys!
But hornady said the 6.5 Creedmoor was the best ever ever and you don't even need those big magnum cartridges 😂
Don't ever underestimate the true power of a short powder column with a high b.c skinny jeans bullet. Some say it's almost as good as a 6.5 swede
6.5 Creeduseless junk!
9.3x62 vs 35 Whelen!
European Dangerous Game Cartidge vs American Dangerous Game Cartridge!!
Hmm... that is a fun one
Definitely a better backdrop
So did I miss the 338wm ?
It's at the end
Interesting, thank you.
Thanks for watching
Goddamit that’s Jason borne
Thanks for watching
Awesome backdrop indeed. Do you find variance between your cold snow covered range day and a good sunny day as far as load and shooting performance?
I definitely like big bore cartridges and eventually will have one bigger than 300 WSM even if it’s a semi custom 35 Whelen LH bolt action.
I like the bonus guns you guys bring out too for fun.
I didn't notice a difference, but I am using H4831SC
@ yes powder that isn’t temperature sensitive is really nice. I got some this summer mostly for my 300 WSM.
Good stuff! Maybe I missed it but I'm curious what powder and charge with the 140 accubonds?
He is using IMR 4350 for the 140 gr Ballistic tips
How did you get 11 minutes out of this comparison mate? 340 is far superior in all dimensions.
Thanks for watching
@@ReloadingWeatherby I watch all of your stuff brother!
6.5 REALLY AGAIN 🤔
Again? When do I ever feature a 6.5 Creedmoor?
340.is my choice does it have more recoil.the 300 weatherby
Yes it has more recoil
@ReloadingWeatherby thanks its beautiful work.great on them big bulls
Where's that range located?
Utah
What is the twist rate for the 7 mag? I have a 338 always shot Federai high energy long discontinued does anyone know what the magic powder they used?
I’m pretty sure it’s in the Pineview Reservoir area. But I could be wrong. They all look the same.
@@ToddMuehleip 1in8 for the 7 mag
@@ToddMuehleip
I don't have an answer for that...but after chronographing the Hornady HE variant, it caused me to give up my TRG in .338 Lapua (with a 27" barrel)... because my .338 Win. Mag. (with a 24" barrel) and that load was within 100 fps of the Lapua... when conservatively corrected for barrel length difference! The Lapua did have a brake...so barrel length was comparable. However, I wish that I still had the Sako TRG. I was on the fence about selling it... together with a Weatherby Mark V in .30/378 and had dropped them off at a friend's table at a gun show and made a quick 30 minute walk through of the show and when I got back to their table... both had been sold!
👍
Thanks for watching
Oh man! Your friend has a man bun?
We didn't actually show it
If you are having issues with grouping while switching between lead/copper bullets and solids. Clean your barrel down to bare metal between switching. They don’t play nice together for some reason.
I just proved in this video it doesn't matter in my guns
@ interesting. I’m glad you tested it!
Every gun is different though
I hate the 6.5 Creed....long live the 6.5 Swede.
🤣🤣🤣
Long live the 6.5 Swede! Yes!!
6.5 swedemoor yea I’m down for that
6.5 is a fine caliber and cartridge. It's just got a heap of attributes that converged to make it fantastic and well rounded. Even "middle weight" projectiles in 6.5 run pretty efficient BC values. The heaviest stuff isn't limited by twist rate. It's not a brutal inefficient (but fun) magnum. Recoil is moderate. Reach is very good. That's a lot of things that couldn't be said about very many cartridges at the time it hit market, at least not without a lot of modifications and exceptions.
In other news, with someone would resurrect the .338-06.
Thanks for watching
Assuming that you meant 'wish' someone would resurrect...and A-Square did standardize it... which you may already know. Not sure of the status of A-Square currently and will do a Google search to see if it shows up. Have got a rifle that I purchased to re-barrel to the .338/06 and have the reamer for the project already. Am planning on comparing it with the .35 Whelen barrel on one of my Encores.
@@cheryltysver4819 1998 the A-Square company standardized it, submitted it to SAAMI for approval. Evidently it was for a time. Today you cannot find SAAMI spec drawing for the .338-06. Loads of obscure and old cartridges can be found on SAAMI but not this one, for whatever reason. 2010 the Sharps RIfle company took over much of the ownership of A-Square both in Wyoming and South Dakota. 2011 both plants closed their doors. 2013 Broadsword Group LLC purchased Sharps and A-Square rights, and Sharps no longer produces any A-Square rifles or ammo.
In a hunting rifle the first 2 shots only count , the rest means nothing !
Thanks for watching
????????????? Intro??????
What?
The title is 340 vs 338. Three minutes of animation…….. then supressed 6.5 creed and 7 rem mag
Bait and switch gimmicks…you loose credibility
Weatherby will think this is a joke!!!!
Do what you do best…it WAS WORKING FOR YOU!!!!!!!
@@billcarlson852 There was no 6.5 Creedmoor footage. Couldn't get the muzzle brake off the gun. So we didn't shoot it. I don't care what Weatherby thinks of my videos.
@@billcarlson852 I always shoot multiple guns when I go to the range. This is no different than any other range video from me.
He has to call the video something. This is a pretty typical vlog style video from RW. Lost credibility? Are you joking?
