At the end just before he starts the verse where he finds out that it’s his mom, that mob deep line “I’ve fallen and I can’t turn back” is such a small piece of this story but fits ever so perfectly.

What a fantastic reaction. Ive watched countless reactions now and this lady had by far the most genuine reaction out of all of them. This song is truly a "cautionary tale" and is meant to hit you as deep as possible. And to make things clear, Immortal Technique himself WAS NEVER there during this rape, this story is based on a true story that did happen but most who were involved are dead now. Source is video titled "Immortal Technique on "Dance With The Devil" Being a True Story" by BootlegKev

What Nick told you about this not being true and only an urban legend isn’t completely correct. It is a true story, it’s just that Immortal Technique didn’t really take part in it. But he has said he knew some of the people involved in it. He even said in a pretty recent interview that he could take you to the actual building where it happened in Harlem.

Listen to this song is like watching Heridetary. It's incredible, traumatizing, and it does its job so well that I never want to experience it again.
Except in this case, I still dip my toes occasionally. It's a modern Shakesperian tragedy. But yeah, I always forget how graphic it is. I like emotionally heavy stuff, but if I hadn't grew up with this song, I probably couldn't listen to it.

This is not a deep dive of a person in the ghetto.
Immortal Technique said it is a true story about a line that must never be crossed.
He said that the people involved do not represent the ghetto.
He said that the people involved in this event all less than human and received street justice within the week.
The reason he kept pushing the hook was to get the point across that doing what they did in this song is never acceptable in any hood.
He goes more in-depth in his interview.

  • @paultardspambot

I think there's a separation that can be made that often isn't. There's a conflation between understanding social reality and individual responsiblity.
On a social level, we can see that various systematic problems create social phenomenon. That's different then the idea of individual responsiblity.
So, for example, "pull yourselves up by your bootstraps" or something like that isnt actual good policy to change things. However, on a personal level, taking as much responsibility as you can for your individual situation is good advice.
As a social policy criticism, it gets turned into "there's nothing to be done to change this situation, its just the responsibility of individual people."
We understand social context are more likely to produce certain types of social problems.
Like we know how communities that have high rates of unemployment and despair will see more drug abuse. For the individual addict, personal responsibility is an important message. but for the larger social problem, there are casual factors that need to be addressed so the root causes of those problems are dealt with.
This isn't a paradox, but a "conservative" way of dealing with the problems is often to put ot the idea that since every individual person has responsibility, there isn't a need to address systematic causes. Except when its sytematic causes contributing to problems of their constiuents.

Serious question for you. Do you think someone as gung ho about being Christian as the two of you can be infected with devils? like being possesed by a demon might not always be as overt and detectable as it is in the movies and someone who is pious thinking that his faith would protect him from such an infection but having his demon doing subtile evil.

  • @paultardspambot
    @paultardspambot Год назад +1

he also mentions his mother was originally a crack addict.
One thing about morals and ethics is they have to come from somewhere. If someone doesnt have a family or role models to teach them, they are more likely to get into these patterns. Vin had parents who gave him moral instruction.
Its clear this kid comes from a broken family, a mother who was once a crack addict. Its not an excuse form his actions, but ti does speak to the kind of environment that produced his mentality.

hmm. What you're saying resonates with me. I got interested in developmental psychology, all the baby videos on youtube.
But something that bothered me was a common kind of commentator- its hard to explain but its like they were TOO into babies. I felt like, you do realize they arent going to be babies forever and that everyone alive was once a baby?
I had a hard time putting my finger on it, but what you said makes sense, though I'm not a christian.
People would always emphasize how "innocent" they were. This is true, because babies under a certain age dont have any conception of right or wrong. They dont really fully understand that other people are people with their own wants and needs.
I feel like those people who are so big into the "innocence" of babies are the same sort who complain on videos of toddlers having tantrums how awful they are and how they would never put up with such- despite the fact that tantrums are pretty much a universal feature of human development, where the brain is learning to regulate intense emotions and learn that a caregiver is not simply there to fulfill their desires.
That said, i do wish more of the parents wit the toddler tantrums would after they're done explain why they had to tell a child no and help them understand their own emotional processes. "because I said so" isnt actually teaching good moral reasoning, its important to understand the reasons behind why parents make rules so the child can understand the logic behind the rules and whats being taught.
But yeah, I feel like those commentators are sort of fetishizing babies in a way (not sexually, there's a different meaning there)
Like they are seeing them as discontinous from the rest of humanity, which I think is not going to be good in terms of raising them, because they will be angry when the child inevitably grows past their "innocence" stage and disappoints the parents by no longer being their idealized angel but an actual human being capable of doing crappy things.
