  • We've been getting a lot of questions about this, so here's a brief tutorial showing how to attach an adapter ring to a Fujifilm X100, X100S, X100T or X100F camera. The adapter ring allows the user to attach threaded accessories including filters, auxiliary lenses, hoods, etc.
Note: We reference the Bower brand adapter in this video, but these instructions would apply with any brand adapter.

Be sure you attach the adapter ring first. Then attach the filter. If you put the filter on first then the adapter ring, there is not enough space for the lens to move while autofocusing. Thus, the error.

If you only want to add a filter you DO NOT need to buy the Fuji adaptor at $49. Simply remove the finish ring, screw in the filter reversed and attach the finish ring on the end. If you have a silver x100 series I would recommend spending the extra bucks for Fuji's 49mm UV filter. Why spend $49 for a UV? It's Fuji so good glass, but is overpriced. But the color is a perfect match. Well worth the maybe $15 more! What price a perfect color match. If you want to focus around 6" you will get a focus error because the filter/adaptor will not allow the lens to extend. But for 99.9% of the time this cheapo solution is just fine.

I love Fuji cameras but have never seen such a crass attempt to get into our pockets for necessary accessories since I bought a Harley. NOT COOL!

You will cause the motor to burn out without the adaptor

Thomas you can't do that. The focus mechanism requires the lens to slide in and out and will hit the filter causing a focus error. I know this because I tried it that way.
