I am 84 and l have many interest but the main one came into being when l realised that doctors are only interested in selling drugs and not preventing illness especially in those who are passed retirement and by this time l was well on the way to being seriously ill. Over the last 3 - 4 yrs l have applied basic principles listening to what my body was telling me and though not out of the woods l am in better mental and physical health than l have been most of my life!

You are absolutely right. I have arthritis which many do at 79. I was put on medication to help me with my arthritis. I have been taking it for about 3 years. I just looked at the side effects of this medication and they're worse than the arthritis. Also I found out I was only supposed to take it for 10 days and then not take it and if I start hurting again take it again. But the prescription bottle says take one daily. Now that is a big mistake those pills could have killed me. Praise the Lord I'm smart enough to investigate it on the internet. I no longer take meloxicam which is an naproxen. I also cut out my blood pressure medicine because Meloxicam constricts the vessels and increases your blood pressure. Go figure are they trying to cure us or just get rid of us. Well I got news for them, I'll be here until God gets ready to take me home. Not the quacks doing it.

I would add that seeing the humor in life can lower your blood pressure as well as lifting your spirits. Remember we are all headed to that one way exit door, but what we do in the meantime is very important.

I know I'm just a punk kid at 68 so I feel humbled telling my story. After renting for 40 years my wife and I finally purchased a 1.25 acre parcel of "raw" land in the mountains of northern Arizona and although it was 750 miles away it was "ours". This is year 8 of a 5 year plan so we're right on schedule. I bought a small sawmill and started milling lumber. We are close to finishing our "Mountain timber frame lodge style" cabin. The greatest adventure of our lives. It keeps me fit both physically and mentally. Our sons have been helping us. There is no better way to bond with your kids than sharing an experience like this. My advice is to have a dream. Soon it turns into a vision and before you realize it you are living the life that had only dreamed about. I am a professional Blacksmith, Artist and a half ass Harmonica player. Married to my soul mate for 35 years. How to stay fit: Chop wood, carry water.

@bravewave2084 That is beautiful. I just read a story about an early pioneer woman at the Grand Canyon. She had to travel down what is now bright angel trail to the Colorado River (11 miles) to do laundry. She would camp overnight then carry the laundry back up to the rim the next day. I bet she was fit!

      @RobertojavierSilvaharth-ub3pz Месяц назад +3

Indeed, amigo. Humanity has chopped wood and carry water for milenia. You are a couple of years younger than I am, and two things have brought me where I am: physical labor, and the knowledge that it is easier to save a dollar than it is to make 1.5 dollars plus sales tax to spend it. I grew up in the States, Long Island, NY, Alva, Oklahoma college, and SDSU California until 1995. Then I moved to New Zealand, after 2 decades to Perú, where I was born, to start a Renewable Energy Biz, and now looking to sell it and return to NZ in the next couple of years.
That Arizona sky is deep within my mind; I have Friends in Holbruck, AZ. and Tucson, AZ. All the best to You and your loved ones in that neautifull land!!

@RobertojavierSilvaharth-ub3pz thank you. NZ has some spectacular geography too. Nice to see someone on the other side of the planet very like-minded. Like the similarity of ancestral pueblans making circular sand painting almost the same as the ones in Tibet even though the cultures never knew of the existence of the other. Like the circle. It's a shared experience. The sun and moon are round. Good luck. You are creating heaven on earth. Right now. Why wait till we die?

As if we can trust doctors today? I am out of debt and do most things alone. I am after learning new things. I own my house and do all the necessary things myself but must have some things done. I watch EDUCATIONAL TV as we can and must keep on learning. And view informative videos. I plan on riding my bikes as long as I can---100 would work except with less miles and intensity. I turned 75 today. At 60 years old I hand cleared a good 1 acre of the 3acres I live on, with a pick ax and hand saw, I didn't have a chainsaw of come a long at the time.Laid out and poured by hand the pier blocks for my house. I snare wild pigs on my property that tear up my yard. Planted all of my fruit trees and propagate them to give to friends and sell. Garden, still cut and split wood, take care of my chickens, 5 cats and 2 year old Belgian Malinois. I refuse to take the medicine that when prescribed will surely lead to more zero health issues for if you're not sick today's doctors won't have a job!! I still like to learn anything that I can. I have always lived alone and have never had a family.

Spark in the dark occurs when I have a project on the go; to complete it, by getting everything it needs to be completed then to my next one I start🛡️

    Philosophy of Change
    Change brings pain-again and again.
    Pain brings suffering-uttering, muttering
    Suffering brings tolerance-with much endurance.
Tolerance brings thinking-and good ideas linking.
Thinking brings knowledge-saves going to college.
    Knowledge brings understanding-sensibility expanding.
Understanding brings wisdom-and where it comes from.
And wisdom makes life bearable-happily declarable!

Wonderful, enlightening, poignant and deeply wise. I am 74 in January and any words of wisdom fills my heart with love and joy and purpose. We need constant reminding that life can be happy. It only takes some simple advice but with powerful meaning to release us from the world that we dont understand or fear and keep us on a path of peacefulness. Thank you Buddha, thank you Jesus.

Let's see what I can still do- 1) My mind is sharp and I can see through people's tricks /BS 2) My body is in somewhat good shape- I care for my daily needs, I cannot run a mile anymore. I can still walk the mile. I cannot ride a bicycle anymore. I can still dance and enjoy my life. 3) I have hobbies and my life is never boring. 4) My favorite hobby is building and designing doll houses. 5) I constantly read and am a continual learner. I am very curious about the world in which we live. I always have my grandsons explain things to me I do not understand so I can learn. - Adaptation to learning. 6) Financial stability- this is important for all regardless of our age. "A simple life brings peace." 7) Broad minded heart 8) Social connections- I have a network of family and friends and communicate peacefully with them. 9) I still drive and take myself to the grocery store or library. Let's see if I live to be 100 years old. I will let you know in thirty years. Thanks for this journey of wisdom.

At 73 I am grateful & well- blessed being strong, in good shape, doing daily exercise, eating balance balance diet, always tried getting rid of stress & manage my emotions. Moreso no other health issues but at times vertigo. Vitamins are my only daily maintenance. Good health is wealth, plus peace of mind made me richer & wiser. 🌠🥰

I am 92, and I found much learning and ideas in your submission. They are all based on doing. So push on with things that are helpful to others and they will have and produce more meaning for you. Keep your mind and body youthful. It’s not what you’ve got, it’s what you do with what you’ve got that counts.

Be positive and happy.. I am moving house at 70 after 22 years in an amazing home and garden and lots of friends.. it’s like a new adventure.. never give up .. fortune favours the brave!!!! Remember the good things and move on quickly.. for most people , they can deal with one problem, but when there is more than that they become anxious and confused… never stress. Stop for a minute and regain your thoughts.. have a great life because it gets better every day…

I retired to the Thai jungle when I was 60 because I never fit, in the USA. Ironic, because at 70, I discovered that four of my blood ancestors were Mayflower Separatists who founded Plymouth Colony. I'm 77 now and have just finished building an experimental race kar and will begin testing it as soon as I can find a flat piece of pavement big enoough to run it safely. Ten years ago I built a dual leaning sidecar rig and my wife and I rode it all over Thailand. Shortly after that I fell off my mountain bicycle and shattered my shoulder. I sold my Kawasaki Ninja and started thinking about a four wheel shifter kart. I built my first one, but then got back into motorcycles and started touring Thailand again. I have finally settled on four wheels out of respect for gravity and expect my racer will fly fast and low with aerodynamic downpressure gluing me tight to terra firma. PS I learned to race go karts when I was 14 ,so all the muscle memory is deep and automatic. I get up every morning with a project list and check it off as I get it done. Oh, I almost forgot... when I was young I was a Bad Boy... I quit all my self destructive vices in 1985 when I faced a decision to change or die. I chose to change and that's why I'm able to share my story. I may be a RARE GEM but my name here in the jungle is KHUN GRIT.

One aspect curiously missing was the connection with God. I am 74. Probably not social enough, but He is a constant comfort to me. I work with children at my Church. No immediate thanks, but very rewarding to me. And very beneficial to the kids I work with. I want to be a "good and faithful servant." My OWN needs are not the main concern.

At 84, I have a wide range of interests, but the most significant one emerged when I noticed that doctors often focus more on prescribing medications than on preventing illness, especially for those past retirement age. By that point, I was on the verge of serious health issues. Over the past 3-4 years, I've adhered to basic principles, paying close attention to what my body was telling me. Although I'm not completely out of the woods, I’m in better mental and physical health now than I’ve been for most of my life!
