    Where will you hide your GPS Tracker?

    • @JeffPDX1

      At the bottom of the nearest river- at least that's where your GPS is going to end up 2 minutes after your bike gets stolen in Portland. Find a way to integrate it with the battery pack so it charges with the battery and locks to the bike for great success.

    I agree with the other comments. A tracker needs to be integrated into the bike and powered by the house battery to be useful/effective. If you just looking to track your friend or spouse one can already do that with the cell phone.

    I wonder how good the tracker will be once the bike is inside an apartment/condo building. Could you pin point the correct apartment? Things to consider with this tracker. Good start but I agree with people here, it needs to be inserted inside the frame or the battery housing.

      Hi Joel! Great question. The tracker uses WiFi Positioning, GPS and Bluetooth for the best positioning accuracy. In dense urban areas and inside buildings the WiFi positioning will help narrow down the scope. Then, once you're within maybe 50 yards or so, perhaps more, and connected via bluetooth to the tracker you can use the app's 'Proximity Radar' to give you an even clearer view of the tracker's location. This is very similar to how the AirTag works when in close proximity to your phone.
      Please note that if the tracker is inserted inside a metal frame or in a completely metal battery housing it may not be able to receive or transmit signals (the metal forms what is known as a 'Faraday Cage').

    What to stop someone from pulling off the GPS and leaving it for your next bike and ride off with your bike?

    • @mattinvoxia3515
      @mattinvoxia3515 3 года назад +2

      Hi, I think it depends a lot on the type of bike you have and where you install the tracker. On the side of the bike as shown in the video is perhaps one of the more obvious placements. We typically recommend mounting it under the seat, within the battery compartment (if not 100% enclosed by metal) or in accessories/tool bags that are unlikely to be torn off in the event of a theft.
      The most determined thieves given enough time will of course manage to find any and all trackers / anti theft devices attached to your bike. The idea is to reduce the risk of theft as much as possible and increase your chances of a successful recovery.

      Hi @greaser5028 ! Great question. If the tracker is encased in metal, it will be unable to transmit or receive signals. The metal enclosure forms what is known as a 'Faraday Cage'. I'm not too familiar with the Himiway Escape, but looking at some photos I think you may have better luck under the seat.

    I used to use a SPOT Trace. It is about the size of a matchbox and its 2 AAA batteries last for month. Of course you need a subscription - about $10 a month. But I could use it on a car, kayaking, hiking, etc. When it is moved a text message or email (to anyone) with a link to Google Earth shows where it is. It comes with a holder and I attached it under the saddle to the rails with stainless-steel cable ties -pretty hard to cut and the unit could not be seen. The units are frequently on sale or about $50. Not too bad. You program it from a web app to set the intervals and notifications.

    • @mattinvoxia3515
      @mattinvoxia3515 3 года назад

      Hi, extensive testing on our side has shown that generally if the tracker is inserted into a down tube or any solid metal frame element, it will not be able to capture a strong enough signal / or be unable to transmit data effectively. This is the same for any GPS Tracker or device that operates over radio frequencies. If you insert your phone into a metal tube, it will also cease to function. With some models of Carbon frames, you may have sufficient signal quality for the tracker to operate normally, but this really depends on the specifications of the bike in question and is somewhat unpredictable.

If you rang a doorbell and said my bike is in your home or yard and greeted with a not friendly person that could be dangerous . Good topic for another youtube video . • @mattinvoxia3515
      @mattinvoxia3515 3 года назад

      Hi John! Over the past several years our products have aided in the successful recovery of thousands of vehicles and valuables. Experience suggests that the average bike thief likely won't think to look for trackers. You may also consider the scenario where the tilt and motion alerts give you a chance to interrupt a theft in progress, say, if your bike is parked outside your house on the street or in your yard. Assuming there's a lock to cut through, you may have enough time to react before your bike is gone.
      There's no foolproof solution to protecting bikes, but we believe our tracker gives you the much needed edge to prevent a theft or facilitate in recovery of your bike after the fact.

    Seems to be great for using as tracker of someone who you know is using the bike. It is not small enough to remain inconspicuous to a would be thief. If they suspect what it is, it's over.
    I use the sync-up tracker from t-mobile and swear by it. You can set up geo-fences that alert instantly if moved outside of them. You get real time updates which is crucial if you want to recover your bike quickly. It is also small enough to where upon inspection, it is not noticeable at all the places you can put it. I use 3m velcro attaching it to the underside of my bike rack. I have tested it and found my bike every time with feet of where it was.
    The peace of mind that it gives me when locking it up or even in my shed is worth the $5 a month fee.
    Also I feel that cell trackers win out over GPS only ones as weather can affect locations as well as metal enclosed spaces. Seven minutes is an eternity for updates when time is of the essence for recovery. Just my 2 cents.

    FIRST... my immediate thought, as mentioned by several others here, was "That's way too obvious and too large to easily disguise or camouflage, or hide. It will be removed immediately." SECOND... As a pilot, I have been using the Global Positioning System since 1995. It works by regular old radio signals. The receiver must receive signals from at least three satellites simultaneously for the computer to triangulate its position. Inside a metal frame it is not likely to work at all as the metal will block the weak signals of satellites that are 12,500 miles away from you. Even a Carbon Fiber frame will attenuate radio signals to some degree. Carbon fiber will conduct. A Fiberglass frame will not block the signals, but might attenuate them some. SO... the best place to position a locator would be, hidden in a plastic case of some sort, and located near the "top" of the case it is in, rather than the "bottom", where things like battery cells would likely block the signals coming from satellites that are moving above you. In an airplane, a thousand or more feet above the ground it is not uncommon to pick up 10 to 12 of the 24 active satellites at once. On the ground 3 to 5 are more likely. Between city buildings it's unlikely to pick up any. I have considered hidden in a plastic encased tail light, or headlight, or reflector or a plastic mirror. Perhaps a protective waterproof case for the speedometer, battery indicator that also hides the tracking device could be devised. I hope this helps your consideration. If I were to steal a bike w/ one, I would duct tape it to a Semi-truck somewhere and let it lead the owner all over the country. All that said if you look at this video there is a disguised tracker / taillight by Vodafone. Go straight to the 13:30 mark. This looks good. ruclips.net/video/lrn70L25Mfg/видео.html

    FREE PRODUCT IDEA, well, almost free, if you make 100k or more I will expect a free bike. A tracker should come built into the battery pack but that would require factory installation so as a stealthy add on it would need to be incorporated into and electrical accessory such as a headlight so it can be recharged by the main battery pack. If you design a headlight with a capacitor that can run the tracker for a month AND be recharged in a few minutes just by turning the headlight on.......yeh, you are welcome.
