Great video... I spent a good 5yrs trail running PA and AZ. Some trails were counter flow for hikers and bikers and some were free flowing. I never impeded a MTB for more than 5-10 seconds. I always let them pass. Unless you're doing speed work (which you would do on a track), hogging up a trail is just poor form. I'd regularly pass and be passed on the trail by the same group of bikers over a 5-7mi trail run. I'd over take them on the climbs when they stalled out or needed a break, and they'd over take me on the downhills. That guy at the 6:00 mark gives trail runners a bad rep. I've only been MTB riding for 2-3 months and am gaining fitness, but absolutely let anyone pass. I actually appreciate the folks that have bells and use them when approaching from behind. It helps me know I"ve got faster traffic back and I just look for some room on the trail to let folks pass. Easy, Peasy. If I'm not getting a pay check tied to my time at the end of a ride, I've got no reason to impede faster traffic.
Very cool that you've recently started riding MTB! I always try and be as aware as possible on the trails. So many people faster than me and I hate holding people up. The dude in this video seemed a bit annoyed by me and probably all the other bikers he encountered. I'm not sure why as this is a popular biking destination. Oh well...can't please everyone. Best of luck in your biking journey!
Don't take this the wrong way, it is just funny what people that don't live near large mountains consider exposure (like the lake). Where I ride, you can be riding on the edge of a 40-50 foot drop into a ravine or on the edge of huge cliffs. Really don't mean this as an insult. Just an observation.
No offense taken at all haha. I hope to ride some real mountainous places this year, and I'm probably going to panic and lose my mind at the elevation and cliffs.
@@CobraKyle Big part of dealing with exposure is not paying attention to it. Know its there and adjust your speed accordingly, but don't dwell on it while you ride.
I did about half the west side the day I filmed this. I actually haven't been back to North Shore since then. I was in Dallas a couple weekends ago, but rode Big Cedar and Sansom Park.
One of the things I like about your videos is you show some of the easier trails and not just the black diamonds. Not everyone is an expert and enjoy less technical rides.
I appreciate that! I imagine if a beginner saw nothing but double black diamonds, it may turn them off from the sport. I've always wanted all skill levels to feel welcomed here.
I love the trail runner. I had a literal LOL when 20 minutes later popped up. Did he have headphones in or was just he pretending you didnt exist? I'm riding that trail this year for sure. Hopefully when its much cooler, like Thanksgiving lol.
I'm pretty sure he just chose to ignore me. My hub is not quiet at all, and he literally started running as I approached him. Guess he was sending all those bikers a message they'd never forget.
We laughed and grit our teeth watching that trail runner on this video, too! As a family of 4 that drives 45 min (one way from Frisco) to hike the Northshore trail (for 4 hours - 8-12mi), we respect bikers and literally jump off trail the minute we hear the bikers. The posted rules state bikers yield to hikers, but we find the rule assinine. We love 90% of the bikers, they are so thankful for us clearing the way and I know that's because most of the hikers/trail runners are...ummm...rude, to put it kindly!!
haha! Almost all my interactions with hikers are great. I never understand any anger between people for having to share a trail. We're all out enjoying some natural beauty. Some on wheels...some on feet. I sound like a hippie, but can't we all just get along? haha
Nice video, just stumbled upon your channel. Only been riding about 5 months, but have not built up enough confidence (or skill in my head) to ride the east side. It's nice to see a good breakdown of most of it, so I know what to expect when I eventually try it.
Thanks for the comment Daniel! The east side was fairly beginner friendly. Just take it easy, ride within your abilities and don't feel bad if you need to walk something. You have an awesome trail system to progress on! Best of luck to you.
I can see why! It was super fast out there. I know XC riders exist in my area, but I never see them. I think they just zoom right past me and I don't even realize.
Howdy, I'm planning on contributing to the DFW MTB community with videos, community service etc... once I get started with future projects I would love to collab!
Very cool! I'm hoping to come back to Dallas before the summer heat strikes. I'll try and announce when I'm headed up that way. Good luck with your channel!
Lol the spandex, yes! Some hardcore XC racers around here. I get annoyed with some of the hikers out there, too. Man I wish I would've been available to show you around! Some cool stuff you missed, and I can show you how to clean that chunk rock climb. It's actually not as bad as it looks.
No worries Matt! You had to get healed up. I'll gladly take a guided trip with you next time I come up there. I'll for sure be back. I really like Dallas and these trails.
I live in San Antonio. I love the Leatt gloves. They have served me well for the last year. Surprisingly not too hot even in summer, but love the protection it offers on the knuckles.
haha I wonder the same thing. I can appreciate that they enjoy the scenery as much as bikers, but wish they were a bit more aware of their surroundings....for example a biker barreling down on you!
Same reason why you are on the trails as opposed to a boring concrete street. Also for me I have to run on dirt or grass because of the lessening impact on my joints, calves etc. It is so much better on trails. I run and bike so I appreciate both parties.
I love how some of the trail runners refuse to get out of the way...others are very courteous here and most hikers actually greet you and smile.
My experience with other people on trails is generally positive. Every now and then you get someone who don't care haha

It's Flower Mound not Dallas!
Oh god .. I hit my nuts 😂😂
I’m a marathon runner and I also ride MTB. Both have their own aspects that make it great!
That's cool you do both. I wish I could run, but my knees aren't happy when I try it lol
what chest mount do you use?
I use the Stuntman chest mount. It's really nice and comfortable. Here is an Amazon link to it: amzn.to/3haTNx1
@@CobraKyle Thank YOU!
Nice job Kyle! Great content as usual.
Thank you my friend!
bruh... did you ever make it out to the west side?
I did about half the west side the day I filmed this. I actually haven't been back to North Shore since then. I was in Dallas a couple weekends ago, but rode Big Cedar and Sansom Park.
@@CobraKyle dopeee, thats good that you found your way out of dallas, bet you found yourself a sweet spot with a lot more trails.
Oh and good to see you again
Good to see you. Always happy to have you here Yuan!

My favorite horse trail in DFW
A great trail indeed. I look forward to riding it again.
Great video!
Thanks! I keep hearing you guys are getting hit hard with rain. I hope to ride these trails again soon.

Kobra Kyle, are you from DFW?
Nope I live in San Antonio. About a 4 hour drive to Dallas for me.
Thanks for this video! I plan to be in the area in mid-july...bike in hand!
Awesome! I think you'll have a good time. Hopefully it's dried up some because I know they've gotten a lot of rain there.
Sweet video.. love the YT
Thanks! I love it too. I'm looking to host a group ride on July 14 at O.P. I'll post a video in the next couple days about it.
Cobra Kyle sounds good. I'm always up for a group ride and to meet new peeps

"I'm not used to seeing so much spandex..." Said by everyone other than NS locals. LOL. That's the clubhouse for the local XC mafia.
I can see why! It was super fast out there. I know XC riders exist in my area, but I never see them. I think they just zoom right past me and I don't even realize.
Lol...at 1:00...my same reaction every time I hit that spot.
haha. Will maybe conquer it one of these days. My list of features I want to accomplish is getting longer!

Right on!
What bike are you riding ?
I ride a YT Jeffsy 27.5 aluminum frame.
Get an incredi-bell, joggers will move without a single word needed.
On weekends ride the west side and avoid most of the two and four legged folks.
Next time I'm in Dallas I'm going to devote my whole time to the west side.
How many miles can you get out there without repeating anything?
yo so where are you from? how do you like the leatt gloves?
I live in San Antonio. I love the Leatt gloves. They have served me well for the last year. Surprisingly not too hot even in summer, but love the protection it offers on the knuckles.
So typical dfw trail, with hikers going the same way as you and pretending they dont hear you
That sucks if it happens often. I find it odd when people act mad that their are bikes on a multi use trail lol.
Make bmx videos hahaha
I need to practice on it....it's just sooooo hot. I like being under the shady trees haha
Why do people run on trails smh?? There's a million places they can run?!?!
haha I wonder the same thing. I can appreciate that they enjoy the scenery as much as bikers, but wish they were a bit more aware of their surroundings....for example a biker barreling down on you!
