Yea for sure the 16mm 1.4 is a beast! perfect pair on the XH1/XT4, The only other comparable lens I have found to get these perspectives was the Tamron 35mm 1.4 SP on full frame. I find essentially eliminating a minimum focus distance , combined with wide angle, and smooth bokeh falloff is the best way to tell a story with a picture.
Mine too! It's the first addition to my Fuji X-T3 system, which included the 18-55f/2.8-4. I have just 3 days ago added the 55-200 ff/3.5-4.8! Of the 3, so far, the 16 is my fav! I also have the MCEX-16 Extension Tube which has transformed both zooms into awesome macro lenses (as if the 16 wasn't enough...lol) so really, I now have, in essence, 5 native lenses.! WooHoo!. By the way, I think it would nice to showcase the MCEX-16 as it never gets the attention it deserves.

You like shooting with a wide like the 16 but with the 3/2 ratio? I think it's the smart way to go. Gives you the best part of the lens and cuts edge distortion. I look at the astonishing film, The Cranes Are Flying, (there's a collage of scenes on one RUclips) which has a ratio of 1/1.37, I think, and marvel at all those swooping camera moves all in focus, from 1961. Then it all makes sense. The format is a win win. Early television dramas, like Serling's The Comedian has all kinds of camera and subject movement, but never messes up. And it was live. And that format on TV was even less wide. And of course, you're shooting for prints too.
Equally great lenses. It just depends on what you’re planning to shoot and what your style is as a photographer. If you tell me that I can help you decide
@@Reggiebphoto hey reggae, just like you I shoot weddings and events for living and then travel vlogging. I've just got into fuji system, first lens was 10-24 for vlogging as 1dxm2 was getting too heavy. Got a 56 f1. 2 as well. My genre would be wedding and travel
I know that's a very common question , but What you recommand for a jack of all trades lens ? I'm really torn about 16 1.4 and the 23 1.4 ; i already have 50 mm and a 16 55 2.8 zoom. I'm really concern about the weight and I'm willing to be very discreet. I would like to do some street photos with people, capturing mood and emotions arounds.
Hi Reggie and thank you very much for your amazing content! Really inspiring! I've watched this video and your video about the 18mm f2. I'm a street and wedding photographer and about to attempt a wide angle lens for the fuji system that matches those 2 styles (even if I shoot wedding in candid style). Which lens would you recommend ? I like the compactness of the 18mm that allows more to be "low profile", on the other the f1.4 of the 16mm is really attractive... Thank you!
They're really different tools with different strengths. It really depends on what type of street photography or what type of wedding photography you're looking to do.
Nice review, Reggie. I was thinking of buying this lens for my RUclips videos and photo work as well. what are your thoughts in term of video capabilities...I watched a few discerning reviews about doing video on this lens. Btw, I am Bay Area as well. :) thank you sir.
Chris Weekly for Video it doesn’t pulse a bit during continuous af. The noise is also slightly audible with even a shotgun mic. I personally use the lens in mf
I've been too challenged by the 16mm f1.4! I want to take your advice, especially seeing your incredible 16mm pics on Fuji-X Pro Photographers page, however after a 6-month trial, found it just to be too much work/experimentation. However - and even though it may not make sense, I really like Fuji's 18mm focal perspective. So I'm ordering the 18mm f1.4 and will hopefully gain some of the positives over the f2 version. But I think I'm at the same point in my craft: the 23mm perspective is getting too easy and boring, and I want the extra ooomph. Regardless - thank you for your perspective!
Hi Reggie between these 16mm f2.8, 23mm f2 & 35mm f2.. which one is the sharpest? I would like to buy my first prime lens into my fuji line up. Currently I'm using the 18-55mm with my xt30. Thanks
28mm 1.8 nikon on D750 was my favorite walk around combo. Wish fuji made new 18mm . Maybe 1.4 or Even 1.2. 24 is too wide for me in general and if i need or want to go wide it's not wide enough. 28mm is where the magic happens for me 😏
Reggie Ballesteros the close focusing distance is amazing and I have been able to do some lovely macro shots. Also I like to do environmental portraits like you talked about.
Hey man! I would advise you to raise the contrast and saturation in your A-roll footage just a bit. Now, it feels like your skin tones are muted and a little bit too unsaturated, which looks a bit lifeless to me. Gorgeous pictures by the way!
BTMovieSecondChannel thanks my friend. I realized that youtube by default changes the colors of the grade. So what I’m grading to my eye goes thru some desaturation and contrast reduction upon uploading and the RUclips processing :(
@@Reggiebphoto That's said! Since I have been using Vimeo for some years now, I don't exactly remember. That would mean adding a bit more saturation in the grade than you'd normally like.
Great video Reggie!!! I love this focal length but which focal length do you recommend me as a first purchase in the Fuji system? I’m going to get a XT3 as my first Fuji camera and I only can get one lens ... All the best!!

Curious how you like this 16mm vs the new 18mm 1.4?
I pretty much don’t use the 16mm anymore haha
Great video with good images 👍
Thanks!
Found it! Thanks! 🎉
You mean 16:9?
Très intéressant et superbes photos, bravo.
Brilliant review. I'm torn between 16mm and a 23mm.
I would think the 23mm 1.4 and 56 1.2 combo is the most used for weddings. Get those two first then move for the 16 1.4 after
Awesome photos 👏👏👏
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Let me get my 16 1.4 out and watch this great vid.
lol, best first comment.
When I saw the notification, I knew straight up it was from you just by the color of the thumbnail.
Haha, hope that’s a good thing!
My favorite lens is ... Fuji 16 1.4 too. Really amazing videos Reggie. How works fuji 16 with xt3? Big differences with xt2 in af speed? Thank you
I think it’s a good af speed bump for sure
Hey bro please suggest me two lens for portrait, landscape, and macro please
You’ve mentioned 3 different specialties, I’m not sure if there’s a combo of 2 lenses that will hit all of that
Perfect vid✨✨
Superb review, respect
Thanks
I know that's a very common question , but What you recommand for a jack of all trades lens ? I'm really torn about 16 1.4 and the 23 1.4 ; i already have 50 mm and a 16 55 2.8 zoom. I'm really concern about the weight and I'm willing to be very discreet. I would like to do some street photos with people, capturing mood and emotions arounds.
Vincent Portais 23 1.4 or 23mm f2
@@Reggiebphoto thanks for your answer man, best wishes for the next !
You’re welcome!
I hope you show the aperture of each photo
What photo are you curious about? Unfortunately I can’t reupload the video
Do you ever pair this with the 11mm extension tube?
J Rebel I haven’t tried as I don’t own that extension tube
Did you try the 16mm f2.8 Reggie, probably not bright enough for your wedding photography but it sounds to be great for travelling?
The 16 1.4 is actually one of my favorite travel lens. I haven’t tried the 2.8 tho.
Thanks Reggie…what’s your take on the 14mm 2.8? Probably a bit wide for your work but did you ever consider it when comparing the 16mm 1.4?
I tried it and exchanged it for the 16 1.4
@@Reggiebphoto thanks for the insight
Can the AF+MF function be used, if the AF clutch is on?
Loving the body of work here on RUclips, Reggie! Thank you!
Joseph Abad the clutch overrides wharever mode youre in and forces it into manual mode
@@Reggiebphoto I shoot more often in documentary/candid style. I fear "church sessions" because it's often really dark
I have review videos on both these lenses. It’s gonna come down to if you prioritize low light or compact size
Skills. Respect.
Thanks!
Hey Reggie, great stuff. What lens did you use to shoot this video? There’s a nice subtle blur on your background that isn’t over the top.
23mm 1.4
great photos and nice video :)
Hey Reggie,
If you had to pick between the 16mm 1.4 or the 23mm 1.4, which one would you go with? I do a lot of landscape/travel/street photography.
Carlos Briceno for landscape street and travel it would be the 16 1.4
You don't think the 16mm is too wide for street photography?
Perhaps for some people, but for me It’s personally what I would pick. Isn’t that what your question was?
Hi Reggie between these 16mm f2.8, 23mm f2 & 35mm f2.. which one is the sharpest? I would like to buy my first prime lens into my fuji line up. Currently I'm using the 18-55mm with my xt30.
Thanks
I haven’t tried the other two, but the 35 f2 I’ve heard tk be the sharpest of the 3
@@Reggiebphoto i see..alright thanks for the info 👍☺️
Reggie make a Leggo shoot wedding series... I think it will be cool.
Will do!
28mm 1.8 nikon on D750 was my favorite walk around combo. Wish fuji made new 18mm . Maybe 1.4 or Even 1.2. 24 is too wide for me in general and if i need or want to go wide it's not wide enough. 28mm is where the magic happens for me 😏
Yup I agree. 18 1.2 would be my dream fuji
Very good points and video. I have owned the 16mm 1.4 for over a year now and completely agree.
Any point that you feel you most relate to? Thanks for the comment.
Reggie Ballesteros the close focusing distance is amazing and I have been able to do some lovely macro shots. Also I like to do environmental portraits like you talked about.
It's an awesome lense for time lapses, satisfied I am.
Nice 👍
Hey man! I would advise you to raise the contrast and saturation in your A-roll footage just a bit. Now, it feels like your skin tones are muted and a little bit too unsaturated, which looks a bit lifeless to me. Gorgeous pictures by the way!
BTMovieSecondChannel thanks for the feedback.
@@Reggiebphoto No problem! I really like your content.
BTMovieSecondChannel exactly what I’m thinking. Appreciate the feedback again
Love this lens also. I don't have experience with the 28 1.8g but if it's any better than the 16 1.4 , it would be my next Nikon lens :)
Can’t beat that full frame bokeh. And the Nikon focuses closer and more magnification
Great video Reggie!!! I love this focal length but which focal length do you recommend me as a first purchase in the Fuji system? I’m going to get a XT3 as my first Fuji camera and I only can get one lens ... All the best!!
if you can only get one lens maybe a 23 or 35. depends on what type of photos you want to shoot
@@Reggiebphoto I used to shoot with my Canon 15-85 and my Sigma 18-35 at 15,18,35 ,70,85 never at 23 .... I am looking for something versatile until I can purchase my second lens. What do you think? Take care
23 then
@@Reggiebphoto Better than the 16f1.4 or the 35f2? And to complement this focal length which one do you suggest? 🙏
As a single lens, the 23 offers the most general application and versatility. I always recommend getting the 18-55 kit if you can as it’s a great deal and very useful, from there you have more freedom to choose a funnet second lens
