For me the great advantage of filmsimulations is, that I see the result live, thus catching the mood at the moment while taking the shoot. RAW processing at home, far away from the actual scene means, that you are in a different mood. Often this RAW processing results in highly artificial photos, but not with the mood I wanted. During taking a photo I start with a recipe, but depending on light and scenery, I slightly change some parameters to get the mood I feel while shooting. Exposure triangle is not all. Great job Reggie!

I do this regularly with 3 film sim bracket shooting. My favorites are Arcos, Classic Negative, & Chrome. Getting black & white, cinematic, and Chrome all at once is so convenient. Love FUJIFILM

Film simulations allow me to shoot in B/W by using a screen or EVF. And that's crazy! When you shoot in BW you can focus more on composition, lines/perspective, light and shadows and color does not disturb you. Only this one things make me happy to shoot in BW Film simulation.

Actually you can apply film simulations to the RAW files within fuji desktop app, when the cammera is connected to the computer. It uses the camera's processor so most of the settings are achievable.

Yes, I made a video about this! ruclips.net/video/oWCumQDV0kk/видео.htmlsi=aXLz8007uZS3PSQC not quite the same workflow tho since it requires the camera.

@@Reggiebphoto Fujifilm x raw, not the fastest software but it works very well for recipes. I often use your version of Portra, great recipe!

Great video! I only shoot JPEGs both film simulations & in camera profiles! I'm currently using Vivid 1 film simulation & love it! Please do more Jpeg videos!

When friends got me into photography a couple years ago it was through classic film photography, and I didn't like how expensive it was in post nor did I have the patience. I shoot film simulations now on my Fuji and Ricoh cameras which produce a lot of immediate satisfaction. I still edit if I'm shooting raw at live events, but if it's freelance or personal, I shoot jpeg. I think Roger Deakins argued he shoots digitally now because it's a bigger pallet to paint with and it's not so restrictive like film. I couldn't agree more.

Personally, I mainly shoot to document family moments, vacations, etc. I am capable of developing RAW files, but I prefer shooting in JPG for a more immediate result, which often meets my needs perfectly. I also find that color/cinematic look/film look... is sometimes overrated: it doesn't excuse not taking a good photo in the first place. Spending hours on a bad photo to impress people online doesn't change the fact that your photo isn't interesting; it's simply an additional element, which is often very subjective. I really like your film simulation; personally, I mainly use Joe D'Agostino's Nostalgic Negative.

Film shooter bulk roll their own film to save money, I "Bulk Edit" in lightroom to save time, I just copy the setting on a picture I already edited and paste and the all the new one I imported.

my x100 is my travel camera, and I am happy with the film sim settings I have for myself (a nice soft astia vibe) but I _still_ end up editing photos in Lightroom, maybe just because I love doing it 😅

You do you Reggie! For me, I shoot film alongside my Fuji Recipes. I enjoy developing my own film and making dark room prints. Shooting analog film has certain sounds and smells that are satisfying beyond just the end product. Reggie's Portra is always the first film sim i program in any camera.

100% - I still bring film along with me. But mainly for trips and holidays. I don’t have the budget for using it as everyday

This. People saying 'why dont you just shoot film?' are for the most part sending their film out to get it developed/scanned and then post it on IG as a low quality digital file so... digital works just right for most uses. Shooting film but not developing/printing is just not the whole experience :)

Great video Reggie. I am a retired senior hobby photographer & shoot Fuji JPEGS . I don't have the patience to use LR & C1 although I did give C1 a try in my early Fuji keen years. I enjoy shooting JPEG & use it as sort of a film camera challenge to see how close I can get it right on. Really can't do that, but I'm getting close as possible. ShootingFuji SIMs is next on the list.

Thanks for your videos and for your Jpeg recipes! I absolutely agree with you about jpeg. I started with film and dark room. at that time we had 36 shots, no editing possibility. So now I still try to create a good imagine whith my camera, not with my laptop.

Nice video ! I do love some of the recipes out there, but I still just apply a film stock preset across my work and find it to give me more freedom rather to be locked into a film recipe. I do still shoot film though from time to time .

The negative environmental impact of the whole film manufacturing process, and developing and printing has been known for decades. My personal photography started in the early seventies. I was an early adopter of digital. Yes I’m aware of the fact that digital hardware also has a negative effect on environmental waste pollution. But it’s got to be considerably less than film.
I realise I’ll get flamed for this but stopping film production is long overdue.
