I bought my X100v a couple of weeks ago and am just getting used to it. I was using a setting that, tbh, was way too warm and vivid. I have just dialled in your Porta settings and am now getting the feel I want. Thank you for sharing your knowledge . I will head to your website and try some of your other recipes.
Hi Reggie, thanks. Just getting around to using and editing simulations and investigating the complexities of these fanrtastic cameras. hanks for the comment about clarity. I wondered why there was a delay in processing. 😅
A bit late but as a tip for clarity, it’s turned off by default when you shoot in burst, but all other settings remain the same. Yes, if you turn it on it will delay your time between shots, but to avoid this, i just shoot in 3fps burst mode.. When I want clarity i shoot in single drive mode. When I dont, I shoot in the slowest burst mode on my camera and it works fine.
So I tried this recipe this past weekend. Worked great! Was a family gathering, and was just walking around, taking pictures, sometimes without anyone knowing it. I had with me a Canon Selphy CP1500, so I'd make a print of a few of the better images, and then present that to whomever was in the printed photo, and they were floored with the image!
Thank you for these step-by-step videos. It is great to see what each setting does as opposed to just guessing. Just got my Black Pro-Mist 1/4 filter and am excited to try this one and the Reggis Porta out.
I really wish that Fuji could evolve their simulation bracketing. Make it so that you could use custom recipes and change the number of copies. I dont want 3 copies, I want just 2.
Hi Reggie, thanks fo the recipe, I will test it, as well as Portra's one (not far from Fuji X Weekly apart from white balance mode, but that's worth making the comparison). AT LAST I have understood this strange "storing" - and boring - message, so I will set clarity at 0 as standard shooting option.
The section where you were explaining highlights and shadows really resonated with me, but the photos of your children and your architecture shots are outstanding as well!
If you set it to continuous shooting on drive, like 3 fps - the camera won't lag even if you adjust the clarity to other values than 0. At least on X-Pro3.
Nice filmsim, though I think you should perhaps call it something other than HP5. HP5 has a fairly large grain structure and forgiving dynamic range. +2 on each curve and a DR200 max is giving way too much contrast and limited dynamic range to be associated with 'HP5'. Just my 2 cents. This of course doesn't take anything away from the actual end results of course, nice images.
Diffusion filters are a pretty drastic decision since it will affect EVERY file that you capture. Including all those archival RAW images that you might want to re-evaluate and revisit later. Your tastes and desires may change some time in the future but you'll be stuck with those diffused RAW files - forever.
great video man, I love shooting in BNW because it lets me use much higher ISO values in night shots and the grain it produces is actually very nice. with BNW i have a low light profile and a daytime profile. Basically just film grain off / on though. But the ACROS ISO gain is very pleasing depending on the look you’re going for
Great info here … thanks! I really enjoy shooting Acros with my X100V and have been wanting to dial it in … beyond just adding the digital Red setting. I recently downloaded X Raw Studio so I’m looking forward to seeing the effect of your recipe on the computer. I might also have to consider a diffusion filter. 📷🙂
Okay hold on, nobody in the comments is talking about the X-Pro3-ification of the X100 here??? Reggie, tell us more about this screen cover you slapped on there! And please tell me that isn't gaff tape wrapped around the screen! That would be horrible to get off!
@@Reggiebphoto always Pro Gaff for me! And it doesn't leave residue in the short term but I have found that when using it for things we touch/handle often, human body oils sort of break down the adhesive and can make removing it a bit gooey 😅 I did see someone else online recommend putting on a clear screen protector before gaffing though; that seems like a good idea 😜
Hey Just found your Channel and im pretty new into photographing. Really intereseting video! I currently have only one Lens (35mm) and cannot find any Diffusion Filters (5%) for it. Do you have a link or an idea Where i could order it ?(to germany)

I'm intrigued and would like to try them out one day. Do you have any must-dos or must-nots when it comes to using diffusion filters?
Can you have this recipe in RAW too though? Just took a bunch of shots and when went to upload it into Capture One...nada. Checked the files and it only recorded an HEIF file.
