How To Fix a 1990 Accord Seatbelt Retractor

- This is for 90-91 Honda Accords. In 5 minutes you'll learn how to bring your seatbelt retractor to a close position so you can buckle your seatbelt manually. Despite what others said, both Honda dealers and Honda consumer relations said they are NOT responsible to fixing the computer relay unit (silver unit under passenger seat with black plastic cover). Car has 240K miles and counting, seatbelt motor still working, my next project is to replace computer control unit with one from junk yard.
12 years later and still this video is a huge help. Just had this happen to me & I had no idea what to do. Thank you so much
I think it terrible when people get upset when little things like this go wrong. When the car is 20+ years old it owes you nothing. My accord has spent the least amount of time in the shop out of any other car I've owned and it also the oldest. The parts are readily available and cheap and I would buy this car again every time.
Thanks buddy. I was going to try to force my seat belt back into locked position, but glad you demonstrated that it can be done without breaking it.
I think it sucks that Honda won't fix the electronic problems. I had my transmission EC computer replaced this year, now this.
Thanks for making and posting the video. It's the only work around for the problem I can find in the Google search.
The beeping is controlled by the black CM (computer module) located under the front passenger seat. Unscrew the 2 bolts at the front of the box, then lift off the black plastic cover. Now push the seat all the way forward, look down on the floor of the passenger seat and u can now see the 2 wire connectors (a brown and a green). I disabled mine by unplugging both connectors.
I want my 6:53 back!!!
Good job bro 💪
Did you check the fuses under the hood before replacing the unit under the seat? The fuses are labeled L passive motor, and R passive motor.
I hope u all find this helpful. Despite what others have said on the internet, Honda is not responsible to replace the computer module. All the Honda dealers i've dealt with said Honda liability ends with the seat belt and the retractor itself, not the computer module.
I did this and worked, but after i turned the car off and opened the door the problem occured once more...
this is a temporary fix!!!!! its not that hard to fix people!!!! all parts are available at the junk yard
Will it work on a 199o Acura Integra... it's practically the same?
Broooo..thanks alot for taking you time to share this ..i was worry since my belt stop working today...thanks alot man
I have a 91 honda accord and my seatbelts are stuck the driver side will go forward but wont retract back idk what to do any suggestions would be great!
Thanks for the video man. This gave me an idea that led to a fix. Thanks.
My is in the locked position and won’t move what do I do
Oh. Just pull the plug under the cover then put a hotwire to the motor then pull the fuse under the hood and its not going to move again. Or fix it right like me. I like my seat belts to work by themselves.
Thank you brother 🙏🏼
I had a problem with the driver side only. I pulled the male end back into the posistion where I could use it. When I turned the car on it went back to the forward posistion. So, I removeved the 30 amp fuse to the driver side motor under the hood.
I have this problem on 1991 Honda Accord. If the problem is this "computer relay unit" as you say, then please let us know the part number. Then we can type it in google and possibly find a replacement for it (also, if you can open up the unit, then quite likely you wouldn't have to replace the whole thing, but just the bad component(s) in it - if its a "computer relay unit" then its got relays in it, and relays seem to be components that fail eventually). And commenter GHOSTGXZ below suggests checking 'the fuses [under hood that] are labeled L passive motor, and R passive motor', which is excellent suggestion to do first. Otherwise, great video!!
Also, just discovered this is discussed a little bit on pages 126 and 127 of the Owner's Manual.
Bro your comment helps me to fix that!!! i dont even know that thing of the owners manual thank u bro
Thank you was looking for hours in my manual couldn't find this huge help
I'm having issues with my 1990 Honda civic driver side seat won't retract back and the beeping sound stays on when I close the door also when I crack the door open it jerks like it wants to retract but doesn't it just started doing it did before but it hadn't in long time just yesterday it started what should as a quick fix cuz I need to drive with the seat belt back
I never had problems with this before but my 91 accord but the latch broke on the driver door. I replaced the entire door no problem but now the seat belts stay in the closed location. No Seat Belt warning light or anything. I assumed it was a wiring issue
Wow!!!!!!
Hi Jman N,
Thank you so much for showing us how to moved the buckle and my son did it.
However, I don't know how install a computer.
Respectfully, Hong
Thanks bro!! Your video help me a lot!!
If you take apart the computer box under the pass seat you can remove the buzzer (forever, so be sure)
will that stop the beeping noise as well (the one marked when seatbelt is not up)
Can u switch these out with the 92-93 interior panels without the seatbelt n retractor?
Thank you so much, I thought I broke it but all I did was pull it back and it started working again. Thank you!
Thanks man!! Quick tip when turning Allen key push seat belt clip at the same time otherwise your going to struggle.... Thanks again!!
i have a 1990 acura integra it was excatly the same u just saved me a huge head ache
Good to know! I just bought a Honda same year and the same problem. Gonna try to fix it tomorrow : )
Thank you! My 1990 Civic belt retractor motor drive was stuck in the "almost closed" position. The seatbelt could be used but the warning beep would sound unless you pulled it and held it closed the last 1/4 inch or so. Thanks to your video I opened the little access hole at the bottom of the B pillar and with a 4mm allen wrench I was able to retract it back that last little bit now no more false warning alarm.
had the same problem and after replacing almost everything.... it was the easiest thing to replace .....the computer under the passenger seat and its cheap at the junk yard
Ok. So i did this and i was able to pull the seatbelt lock all the way back (driver side) and it helped because it turned the dam dashlight out but then when i turned the car off, the mechanism worked again until it got stuck again all the way on the other side again. fuuu k that
LMFAO that's some bull right there
LMFAO! This video is for retards!
My 93 acura integra just did this today i tried moving it back manually but as soon as i opened the door the thing retracted back to the front of the car and stayed there i've heard that acura has a lifetime warranty on defective belts so im going to go into the dealer and see what they can do for me. I will keep you guys posted on what happens
What happened I'm dying to know
Did you fix it mine just did this today , please keel updates of how you fixed it
Thanks :) I couldn't locate the damn B pillar hole! Now I know
Thanks so much for the video. It helped me and saved me money.
Seatbelt Has LIFETIME WARRANTY . go get done free
Sadly it does not. This is my second 90's honda that they will not replace the non working seatbelts.
Hmm. 3 days ago. Btw, the Peter creek Honda place stripped threads/ cross Thread (And LEFT LOOSE) One rear Bolt. The other wasnt tight at all. A Headon collision would have put me thru Window. 5 hours work; afyer I was told 1.5 hours (he added, " it free cant complain) and I got pist after I got home. So it took me 2 hours to remove seats (find NEW problem) and Steam clean carpet., I pre planned. In other words a couple hours to remove srats CLEAN WHOLE CARPET and find WHAT MORONS had done at Honda Wsnc Peters creek parkway!
My 1990 acura integra has the same problem my drivers side seat belt wont go back to its locking position.. I wonder if its a fuse , motor or computer. Do i need to loosen the srew to push it back to its locking position?? I need help..
Don Herculano Sanchez did you ever fix yours I have a 93 integra and I’m having this issue as we speak
DB7 Mario did you end up fixing it bro , mine just did this like right know im stuck cant find nothing
Thanks for the video, it save me money and headche
Where is the second part?
Would that work on the driver side also?
LOLOLOLOL
MrMustacrackish - I know your post is a year old, but this is a safety issue. It's not like the radio quit working or something, this is something that you NEED, not only for safety, but for legality.
On many older Honda's and Acura's they provide a lifetime warranty on them. They provided the warranty, so YES the service is owed to us.
You didnt fix anything ! I can do that by puttibng a hot wire to the seatbelt motor. E- gads !
I did then when I open the door then it is go back to home position again. What will I do now?
Did you ever figure it out?
