    Thank you so much! Me and my dad took apart my Xbox and we did all these steps. It is a little bit uneven and there is a tiny bit of static on the screen but I think it’s just because we didn’t get the little wires all touching. We’re using a magnifying glass in a few days to fix that. We are not experienced at all in soldering but we still made it work. Anyone who wants to know if they should do this, my answer is yes if you can follow all the instruction and you have all the equipment. Just BE CAREFUL!

    great video, something i would have done different is instead of purely heating the underside with a rework wand, I would have used the soldering iron and a solder sucker/wick or braided wire to remove most if not all of the solder through the location pins, this will be less time heating the board and less likely of damaging the fiberglass pcb material through heating. Ive found blasting a "cold" PCB with a large amount of heat can "shock" the fiberglass material and cause damage to the traces. just my experience though :D

    Always a pleasure watching your videos and learning! Just wondering, any reason you dont use wick to get rid of the ground pins excess solder? it seems the hot air might knock off any small components around more easily that way?

    Hey great video, I'm going to be trying this repair in a week or 2. What else is needed besides a soldering iron and flux? leaded solder and what was the rectangle tool you were moving on the back of the board to remove the ground pins. (new to soldering) lol

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  7 лет назад

      You'll need a decent quality hot air station to remove the ports - you'll not be able to do it with a soldering iron alone sadly. Otherwise you'll need a quality soldering iron with a fine tip and a broad tip, quality flux, rosin-core flux leaded solder and some desolder wick in case it goes wrong.

    • @austinpauley9055
      @austinpauley9055 7 лет назад

  • @dlwn64
    @dlwn64 7 лет назад

    Great video. Unfortunately when I was removing the bad HDMI port, it also pulled off some of the extremely thin metal wires off the circuit board as well as tiny black chip that were going towards the back of the port. So pissed at myself, I've done this work before without problems. Bought an Xbox One S for 85 and completely fucked it up. Was trying to save money and have a fun project. I've been out of gaming for 7 years and wanted to get back into it because of Battlefront II. Wonder if I could part this out on ebay or try to buy a good motherboard. Did the heat travel too far or not enough? Curious if you've seen this before.

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  7 лет назад

      You didn't get the board hot enough before removing the port. The contacts on these boards are very long and thin which means that anything less than the board being fully heat-soaked before removing the port will result in these lifting out. In the video I mention that under no circumstances should you ever be tempted to lift the port out and just let it fall out of its own volition for this reason. They're a pain if you've not done much of this work before.
      You may still be able to salvage the board though - it'll just involve running some link wires from the port legs to their corresponding components out on the board, bypassing the damaged pads. How many of these pads lifted out?

      £5-10 for a HDMI port, £5 in materials, maintenance, electricity and so on, £20-30 labour and slap on VAT. So you're looking at around £40-60 plus return shipping. It's a fairly simple fix and takes just over an hour including cleanup without much testing needing to be done.

    sometimes the outer shield in the xbox one's hdmi expands and stops hdmi signal - dont need to replace port just bend it inwards from sides. if the 2 lips at the bottom of the port aren't touching and you get no hdmi signal thats why - no ground contact

    This was really helpful but after putting mine back together, the power button is not "clicking" like it was before and the power won't turn on. The power button just presses in with out the click. Power is running through it as the fan starts for a moment when I plug it in. It must be where the power button connects to the chip behind it. Any ideas on a fix?

      Yeah it's easy to damage the buttons on the front panel if the top cover is not slid back over correctly. Remove the top cover and look for the tactile switch still being present. The fronts can smash off just leaving the contacts or half the switch body behind - fix is to either replace the affected switches or replace the front RF Board PCB assembly.

      Andrew Paul Thanks for the insight, man. Luckily, I have a friend who's a bit better at this stuff than I am and he offered to fix it up for me.

    Andrew Paul could you please tell me what I need to use on this every little thing and I’d like to keep this as cheap as I can I’m just doing it on 2 of them so whatever gets the job done

      If you're only doing the two mate I'd look to find someone to do them for me - the equipment and tools required will amount to considerably more than the average tech would charge to replace them.

    low melt solder is easier job. Jessa Jones told me to use hottest air, highest air speed largest nozzle.
