NEW EDITION 🔥🔥🔥🔥 this is a deeeeeeeeep rabbit hole • Bobby Brown - Every Little Step • Ralph Tresvant - Sensitivity • BBD (Bell Biv Devoe) - Poison • Johnny Gill - Rub You The Right Way
You guys had me boppin with yall. I just realized that Johnny Gill had replaced Bobby Brown in this video. You guys have to hear his "MY, MY, MY" song. He's got that great deep voice.
Johnny was supposed to replace Ralph not Bobby because Ralph was going to go solo, thought the same thing but when you watch the movie you realize it wasn't Bobby he was replacing
What you two do not understand is that at least 90% of the viewers of this reaction were doing the dance moves right along with the video. Because we all remember them.
Being from Boston (Roxbury born and raised); I watched them from their youth. They are only a bit older than myself. I watched them perform and play ball on the streets. So, I am a lifelong fan and so proud. They represent our city well and really helped put us on the map musically. You really need to get up on New Edition and all of their solo and breakoff group hits. NE is still doing shows!
Dorchester born here! Love these dudes so much. Have seen them 3 times, the most recent being with Charlie Wilson and Jodeci (freakin' phenomenal show). Also, The New Edition Story is one of the best bio-pics ever and I will die on that hill.
I was blessed to be a teen in the 80's. Most people in the 80's did not stick to one genre of music. I listened to everything and that's why most people love your channel. 80's was the best decade for every genre. There will never be another decade like that.
These guys were so influential in the 80's they were considered the "Blueprint" of the modern boy band era. Extremely talented both as a group as well as individual artists. From 88-90 Bobby Brown was THE guy. He was untouchable and his second solo album 1988's "Don't Be Cruel" became certified 7 times platinum by 1995. Ronnie, Michael and Ricky went on to create the group Bell Biv Devoe and were instrumental in ushering in the New Jack Swing era of R&B. Ralph Tresvant went on to release double platinum solo albums also. All of these guys are legendary for their genre and as New Edition, they ruled the 80's.
Weeellll... The name "New Edition" was chosen because they were supposed to be a "new edition" of the Jacksons. So that would make The Jacksons the blueprint but I understand the sentiment. Like you mentioned, the pop boy bands that came after them were modeled after NE. The same guy that put NE together later put together New Kids on the Block even.
The musical careers that spun off from this group are amazing as well. Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant, Jonny Gill all made a splash after New Edition broke up.
A year or so ago they performed at the AMAs with New Kids on the Block as both groups were from Boston and started with the same producer. It was great to see this song performed current day and by all 6 members. Really fun performance by both boy bands!
"If It Isn't Love" is the first single from NE's fifth album, Heart Break (1988); it was the biggest hit off the record, becoming their first top 10 hit following the departure of Bobby Brown and peaking at #7. They also garnered their first (and only, to date) Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1989. The song and video are also notable for being the introduction of Johnny Gill as a new member. Great reaction!
Hey Jay & Amber, you absolutely have to check out "Can You Stand The Rain" by New Edition. These songs are from the album "Heart Break" which was produced at the time by the hottest music producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The same Jam and Lewis that produced Janet Jackson (Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet, The Velvet Rope, etc.). Enjoy and keep making us smile 🙂
Their song "Boys to Men" is an amazing ballad that highlights Johnny Gill's voice. Johnny Gill has this rich baritone voice which is missing from black music of today. Their other amazing song is "Can You Stand the Rain." They have quite a catalogue of hits, especially from their early years. "Mr. Telephone Man," "Popcorn Love," "Count Me Out," "Candy Girl" and "Is This the End."
Dig deeper into that New Edition bag! They are by far the greatest male group/boy bad over the last 40 years and still touring. New Edition spinned off into group member projects Bobby Brown, BBD, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill....they all produced many of the greatest hits of the 80's and 90's!
I have been WAITING for you two to react to this song since I started following your channel over a year ago! Easily my favorite New Edition song. And the choreography.....the best!
Great reaction. These are the guys that New Kids on the Block, NSynk, BackStreet Boys got their inspiration. And they are on tour right now in their 50s still hitting the moves and sounding good. But to me, their best choreography and stage presence is "You're Not My Kinda Girl". They have a movie about their life story and you all would enjoy it.
Yeah...lol we had The New Edition....who were like the 80's version of The Temptations and Four Tops with the singing....harmonies....and dance moves....What I like about this video is that it shows the amount of work that goes into a group or band being excellent on stage or in a recording....lots of hours, Y'all. Thanks .... Great Reactions.....seeing Jay...getting down is fun.
Jay and Amber - great reaction! New Edition is a "Supergroup" of sorts with each of the singers enjoying separate solo or group careers (Ralph Tresvant, Johhny Gill, Bobby Brown, and Bel Biv Devoe). They started in the late 70s/early 80s as kind of a cutesie pre/early teen boy band. By the time this album came out in '88, they were young men with pretty established voices and talent in their individual careers and groups. Another plug for the power ballad "Can you Stand the Rain" from this same album. This really showcases Ralph Tresvant's and Johhny Gill's individual voices, along with some fantastic harmonies and hard-hitting lyrics.
cant forget Ricky Bell if this is the end and Poison and Your not my kind of girl he kills it singing dancing in syce and still singing and dancing in synce
YES!!! One of New Edition’s best songs!!! If you like this, please do their song “ONCE IN A LIFETIME GROOVE” ❤🔥. Got to to some Bobby Brown solo as well; “Don’t Be Cruel”, “My Prerogative”. The beginnings of NEW JACK SWING ❤
Yeah.. I've seen NE live a few times and they were always on point. Top 5 live performance! Their setlist is full of hits whether they were a group or solo songs. The longest lasting most successful "boy band" of all-time.
Finally!! Love this song…and the dance moves🕺🕺🕺🕺we had them on all down back in the day! 🕺🕺💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🕺🕺 No worries, Amber, you, yourself and your kiddos can start a NEWER EDITION! 😃
They are my favorite group of all times. Since I was 12 years old. That was 4o years ago.😮 I have seen them live 4 times. Their true fans are dedicated and know this entire dance routine. They are on tour right now. And they still give 100%. They love their fans. Their catalog is deep. Decades worth.
I love New Edition so, so much. They are worthy of a bunch of reactions, you guys. They just toured with all 6 guys not too long ago. They always had 5 members. When Bobby Brown went solo Johnny Gill took his spot. They're my favorite male R&B male group. You guys NEED to do "Can You Stand the Rain" next. Fantastic reaction
If Wikipedia can be believed - they did just one album with only 4 members (right after Bobby left) called “Under The Blue Moon.” From Wikipedia: New Edition recorded their cover version of "Earth Angel" for the soundtrack to the 1986 film The Karate Kid Part II. At the time of its recording, the cover was intended to be a one-off endeavor, but the popularity of the film and its soundtrack helped make the song a minor chart hit. This spawned the idea for the group to record an entire album of covers of popular doo-wop songs. I know you two love older music, so I think you’ll like their 80s take on 50s music!
Feeling so vintage when i see first time reactions to what i saw brand new. So one of my all time favorite groups, song and video. Glad you guys found out.
This is before Backstreet..In Sync..New Kids on the Block all of those bands that defined the 90s. And they would split into Bell Biv Devoe (That Girl is Poison), Ralph and Bobby would go solo. A guy named Johnny Gill would show up later and go solo.
I’m 50. I saw this the first time around and it actually be more impressive now. Nobody does or can do this anymore. Choreography and singing like that to uptempo grooves. 5 capable singers in a group. It’s unheard of now
One of my favorites from back in the day!!! I have this song on my playlist and listen to it often to this day!!! Love that you guys loved it! Thanks for the throwback! Much love❤❤❤❤
FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for you to see this video. One of the best they have done. If this video does not show you what New Edition is capable of, then this group is not for you. Love this video.❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You know I notice theses days there are a lot of "Reaction" shows on RUclips, But I really think you guys were the first and your definitely the best!!! Hands down👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✌🏽👍🏽
I was waiting for you to get back to them! Please do 'Can you Stand the Rain' next. You need to get into the individual artists/groups that made New Edition: Bobby Brown Johnny Gill Ralph Tresvant Bell Biv DeVoe** **Michael Bivens helped launch another major R&B group you should really get into: Boyz II Men Also please, PLEASE, introduce yourselves to Mint Condition. Try 'What Kind of Man Would I Be?' That will set you up nicely for 'Breakin' My Heart'. Do it in that order. Thanks for doing what you do!
Now all you have to do are the young family group called the SYLVERS from the 70's singing "Boogie Fever" (The live version from THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL.)
Yes you were most definitely jipped! I am so glad I grew up with this music. I listened to everything so I love watching you guys because you delve into other genres. You guys are so appreciative of the art even if it is not your preferred genre. I was also raised on my mom’s music. She made me appreciate the art. All she had to do was put different artists on the record player. I taught my son the same. He loves different genres but mostly metal. Anyway, you guys are the best!
When I worked at Universal Studio's , I was in the MCA Music Building one day and I met them!. They were all very nice and intorduced themselves individually to me one by one. They were there that day for a meeting..
I Luuuuv New Edition and I Luuuuved This Reaction! Great Great Great Great Reactions Y’all!!👍🏾💯👍🏾..N.E. HEARTBREAK Is A Great Video From New Edition As Well. I’m Sure You Two Will Enjoy That One Too.😁✌🏾
One of their four Top 10 hits, reaching #7 in 1988 Just saw them in concert in Miami last year They definitely weren't doing it like back in da day Johnny Gill blew up like a balloon. Can't take away from the good times.....
You sure you don't mean Bonby Brown? He's the o e that blew up to porpoise like proportions Even saw a video clip of a concert from the ladt year where the rest of the group is doing the dance moves as Bobby waves them off and refuses cuz he was too fat to do them! 😂
@@MightMouse2174 I'm there age, and I'm the same weight I was, back in da day, so I don't accept that excuse. If you put in that work, you can keep up appearances. They got rich and lazy.
NE, Bobbie Brown, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv DeVoe….So much talent! See them in concert first with BB, and then a second time BB toured with them so we got to see him perform his solo stuff as well. Johnny was a great addition and has such sexy deep voice.
Hi-Five sang "Just Can't Handle It". They were another big boy group that was very popular and had a great sound. Song released in 1990. You'll love their sound too.
I am late to the party but wanted to share: Boston is my hometown and I was a teenager when "New Edition" became a pop sensation with their first song "Candy Girl!" (You might want to check that one out!)They lived in a section of Boston called Roxbury. I lived in the South End, about three blocks away. Shortly after, "New Kids on the Block" came out, but as history would have it, "New Edition" prevailed. Thanks for the memories!
Love that song! Great boy band! Could you two revisit GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS? The had a hit back in the mid 80s called SAVE THE OVERTIME FOR ME. It is in every sense of the word, a jam!
I'm from Boston. Their age. And this music just brings me back to a great time in my life. This is what natural born talent looks like. And I'll forever miss it.
Yes!!! NE is my age group. I've seen them twice in concert (not nearly enough) and Bobby Brown once as a solo artist. They are currently winding down their 40-Year Legacy Tour as we speak! 🤩😍
I love this. I love that you help introduce good music to a younger generation!! I have to do the dance everytime I hear this. Supermarket dancing too. Nobody like them!!
One of the all time legendary jams from the 80's. One of my all-time favorite jams period. The 80's was just an epic magical time for music. There were so many genres of music introduced during the decade it was insane
Amber said, “we had Backstreet Boys & *NSYNC, & you had New Edition”. Donny Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block says without New Edition, none of them would exist.- the Battle of Boston “New Edition & New Kids on the Block at the AMAs 2021. They still got it. ruclips.net/video/kre3wB_Ik7M/видео.html Ffwd to about 8:45 if you want to hear them sing If it Isn’t Love from 2 years ago without spoiling future songs. They still got it.
Nice bouncy song with good moves reminds me of the old Motown groups who started these kind of moves, like The Temptations. Also like Others of their type such as New Kids on the Block, Back street boys who did some great songs. Still the boys can sing.
Thanks so much for doing this song. My first year of college I saw Bell Biv Devoe, Johnny Gill and Keith Sweat in concert and this video brought back that great memory.
YES! Been waiting for this one. NE has tons of hits, together and as solo artists. For more NE I'd try Hit Me Off, Can You Stand The Rain, and Boys To Me. Also, no need to apologize. Family always comes first.
Omg are we entering the 80's Boy Group Era?! I'm so excited for this!!! Such an iconic sound. Let's bust out the perms, Keds, and denim jackets! New Kids On The Block next please???
New Edition was one of my favorites growing up in HS, another boy group to check out is Force MDs "Tender Love", PLUS an awesome female group to listen to would be The Pussycat Dolls "Don'tcha".
If you loved this, you should definitely check out some of the great music from some of the members post-New Edition, like Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" and Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison". I know you will love them!
Thank you for this memory. New Edition was my very first concert here in Tampa when I was 16. Was bday gift from my friends. Was a damn good concert too. Thanks guys... You're the best.
I wish I could like this 1000 times!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that you guys are about to go down the New Edition (and resulting group and solo projects) rabbit hole. I LOVE everything New Edition and have been obsessed since I was a kid. I have seen them in concert every chance possible and scream like a little girl every time lol.
Without New Edition, there wouldn't be boy bands as we know them. They could sing, rap, and dance- a rare combination. Choreography wise- there is no group that can beat them-even to this day. The only group that came close was TROOP, who actually had killer harmonies as well (BoysIIMen had killer harmonies too). They continued to have hits after Bobby Brown left the group and Johnny Gill joined and they just concluded their Legacy Tour this year - they are in their 50s. You should check out their hits (as adults) You're Not My Kind of Girl, Can You Stand the Rain, Hit Me Off and Hot Tonite. Their hit song Mr. Telephone Man (as young teens and mostly led by Bobby Brown) is still a fan favorite and so is Candy Girl. Bobby's debut album Dont Be Cruel, generated 5 top 10 hits. He had the most successful solo debut album of the group. But he's recorded songs and continued to tour with them off and on (he had to quit earlier this year for health reasons.
Is this a fantastic song or what? I’ve always loved it.. I have it saved in my playlist.. so many of the group went on to successful solo careers! Great reaction!
I went to the All Six Tour and got to meet them and it was my birthday. So happy. They played their New Edition songs and BBD did their's...HUGE Ricky Bell fan and crush back in the day, Bobby Brown did his, Johnny Gill, Rub you the right way live so good, Ralph Tresvant. It was super.
One of my favorites by New Edition. When Johnny Gill joined, they had some great songs. Not meaning they didn’t when Bobby was a part of the group. Johnny just brought that amazing voice. And I was IN LOVE with Ralph Tresvant. (The lead singer on this one) he has some bangers y’all need to hear. Sensitivity, Do What I Gotta Do, Money Can’t Buy You Love, Rated R. Hope y’all check a few out. Also, Bell Biv Devoe. They were so early 90’s R&B. Great music. I’m doing the dance with them. We all knew the moves. Their choreography was a throw back to the Temptations and the Jackson Five. They always had some amazing choreo while doing their songs. New Edition was our version in the 80’s and early 90’s.
If it wasn't for New Edition (and New Kids on the Block), there wouldn't have been a Backstreet Boys or N'Sync or any of the other late 90's/early 2K Boy Groups. The NE rabbit hole is deep and good. Don't foget about their offshoots, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, and Bell Biv Devoe.
This was a bit of the New Jack era seeping in (though this song isn’t New Jack) After this Ralph went solo , Johnny put out a solo release and the rest formed Bell Biv Devoe.
Jay and Amber your next song has to be "Can You Stand The Rain" a great 80's R&B ballad. Don't wait!!!
The next song should be Hi Ren by Ren
Absolutely it's a completely different side of them showing off crazy range.
I still have the cassette single of "Can You Stand the Rain"

Also listen to "Rub You the Right Way".
Johnny was supposed to replace Ralph not Bobby because Ralph was going to go solo, thought the same thing but when you watch the movie you realize it wasn't Bobby he was replacing

This is one of my favorite New Edition songs. I have to add my vote for "Can You Stand The Rain" as well. Another great NE song.
I was waiting for you to get back to them! Please do 'Can you Stand the Rain' next.
You need to get into the individual artists/groups that made New Edition:
Bobby Brown
Johnny Gill
Ralph Tresvant
Bell Biv DeVoe**
**Michael Bivens helped launch another major R&B group you should really get into: Boyz II Men
Also please, PLEASE, introduce yourselves to Mint Condition. Try 'What Kind of Man Would I Be?' That will set you up nicely for 'Breakin' My Heart'. Do it in that order.
Thanks for doing what you do!
Ohhhh yes. New Edition was BIG in our house growing up! So good! You have to hear “Mr. Telephone Man” and “Cool It Now” ❤
Now all you have to do are the young family group called the SYLVERS from the 70's singing "Boogie Fever" (The live version from THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL.)
...and Foster Sylvers trying his best to sound my MJ. I swore for years that "Misdemeanor" was made by the Jacksons.
I swear, I never clicked so fast on one of your videos. This is my childhood ❤
I love this song! They were the ultimate boy band and set the standard for every boy band after! I love Ralph Tresvant’s voice!❤❤
My biggest crushes were on these guys!!! The best boy band ever!
When I worked at Universal Studio's , I was in the MCA Music Building one day and I met them!. They were all very nice and intorduced themselves individually to me one by one. They were there that day for a meeting..
The O.G.'s! Without them, there would be no New Kids, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, BTS, etc.
Donnie Wahlberg said as much while honouring them.
Candy Girl needs to be your next New Edition song, especially since you two love young MJ & Donnie Osmond
Jay wouldn't like "Candy Girl" because he didn't like Ralph's voice in "Cool It Now". Lol . It was released a year before.
I Luuuuv New Edition and I Luuuuved This Reaction! Great Great Great Great Reactions Y’all!!👍🏾💯👍🏾..N.E. HEARTBREAK Is A Great Video From New Edition As Well. I’m Sure You Two Will Enjoy That One Too.😁✌🏾
One of their four Top 10 hits, reaching #7 in 1988
Just saw them in concert in Miami last year
They definitely weren't doing it like back in da day
Johnny Gill blew up like a balloon. Can't take away from the good times.....
You sure you don't mean Bonby Brown? He's the o e that blew up to porpoise like proportions
Even saw a video clip of a concert from the ladt year where the rest of the group is doing the dance moves as Bobby waves them off and refuses cuz he was too fat to do them! 😂
Johnny has put on some weight....Of course they're not gonna be doing it like back in the day they all are over 50 years old
@@MightMouse2174 I'm there age, and I'm the same weight I was, back in da day, so I don't accept that excuse. If you put in that work, you can keep up appearances. They got rich and lazy.
@@InvestBetter. sure you are if you say so !!!! You acting like all of them have gotten so out of shape they can barely move ( maybe Bobby can't)
NE, Bobbie Brown, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv DeVoe….So much talent! See them in concert first with BB, and then a second time BB toured with them so we got to see him perform his solo stuff as well. Johnny was a great addition and has such sexy deep voice.
Gotta love New Edition!
Hi-Five sang "Just Can't Handle It". They were another big boy group that was very popular and had a great sound. Song released in 1990. You'll love their sound too.
We got New Edition AND New Kids on the Block. 😉😘
I hope that's a reference to the Bob's Country Bunker lady(from the Blues Brothers movie). "We got both types, Country AND Western" !
Being from Boston, this was my first concert! Ahh to be a teen again!
One of the all time legendary jams from the 80's. One of my all-time favorite jams period. The 80's was just an epic magical time for music. There were so many genres of music introduced during the decade it was insane
Now u guys are getting into some good r and b
Amber said, “we had Backstreet Boys & *NSYNC, & you had New Edition”. Donny Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block says without New Edition, none of them would exist.- the Battle of Boston “New Edition & New Kids on the Block at the AMAs 2021. They still got it. ruclips.net/video/kre3wB_Ik7M/видео.html
Ffwd to about 8:45 if you want to hear them sing If it Isn’t Love from 2 years ago without spoiling future songs. They still got it.
Yes!!! Deep in my childhood.❤ I had a crush on Ralph!🥰. New Edition and New Kids on the Block…we had it great❤❤❤
Nice bouncy song with good moves reminds me of the old Motown groups who started these kind of moves, like The Temptations.
My senior year in high school nothing but NE, Bobby Brown, Al B Sure concerts and house parties, so much fun.
Omg are we entering the 80's Boy Group Era?! I'm so excited for this!!! Such an iconic sound. Let's bust out the perms, Keds, and denim jackets! New Kids On The Block next please???
Definitely listen to "The Right Stuff".
@@flodee8561 Or "Hangin' Tough"
They've done one or two NKOTB songs, but it's been a while. They need to get back to them.
@@chrisdutton2975 omg you’re right! I totally forgot about that lol! I think I may have even commented on that video. Pfffhahaha I’m a dummy.
New Edition was NOT a boy band! Especially during this era of the band
New Edition was one of my favorites growing up in HS, another boy group to check out is Force MDs "Tender Love", PLUS an awesome female group to listen to would be The Pussycat Dolls "Don'tcha".
Tender Love 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
If you loved this, you should definitely check out some of the great music from some of the members post-New Edition, like Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" and Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison". I know you will love them!
Thank you for this memory. New Edition was my very first concert here in Tampa when I was 16. Was bday gift from my friends. Was a damn good concert too. Thanks guys... You're the best.
The OG boy band! So many solo careers launched. Check out Johnny Gill Rub U The Right Way!
I was never a fan, but they were definitely pop icons for a time. Glad to see you are experiencing everything.
Respect the objectivity. More people need to be like this. 👍🏽
Y'all have been missing one of the BEST Pop/R&B bands of the 80s!!! How in the world??😢
Without New Edition, there wouldn't be boy bands as we know them.
Man, I loved me some TROOP. The video for "Spread My Wings" still has some of my all time favorite choreography, they were gettin' it!
@@taneshah.1260 Because it may actually be the best one EVER. Those guys were on a different level altogether. They need to see some TROOP!
Loved this...they were my first concert in '85 (I think!) Saw them in Knoxville with The Jets. Great show! Thanks for all the smiles ❤.
FINALLY!!!!! Bobby Brown next.
Is this a fantastic song or what? I’ve always loved it.. I have it saved in my playlist.. so many of the group went on to successful solo careers! Great reaction!
Love this group forever
They're now in their 50s and still dance like this. NE4L ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Talk about a group of guys who ruled in that era. Either as NE or on their solo deals. Then add Johny Gill. 🔥
You both have to listen to " Can You Stand The Rain " ASAP
Bel Biv DeVoe is another great boy band of that era.
BBD IS NE basically
Hey no need to apologize family always come first that is one of the things I love about y’all
People- that is NOT Jamie Foxx in the video. It's Brooke Payne. 🤦🏾♀️
Dang this takes me back.. Our jr.high and high school dances were so awesome. We knew all these songs and dances. Lol.
This is middle school basement dancing at it’s HIGHEST, imitating all their moves!
This song makes me excited every time I hear it. I was such a fan of theirs. I'm so glad you finally got around to this one!
This was a bit of the New Jack era seeping in (though this song isn’t New Jack) After this Ralph went solo , Johnny put out a solo release and the rest formed Bell Biv Devoe.
If it wasn't for N.E. there would be no BSB or N'sync.
