Jermaine Stewart started out as a Soul Train dancer and was in the running to be a part of the Soul Train-inspired vocal group, Shalamar. He later met Mikey Craig of Culture CLub and sang backup with them on their major hit, "Miss Me Blind". "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" song came out a couple of years later in the mid-1980s as AIDS was making everybody (understandably) paranoid about sex. The message definitely resonated, because the casual sex of the early 80s club scene was suddenly a terrifying prospect. In a cruel twist of irony, he lost his own life to complications from AIDS in 1997. "...Clothes Off" (US#5) was his only major US Hot100 hit, though "Jody" and "Say It Again" found success on the R&B and Dance charts.
@@JayH-tz4ip Indeed. I started to put that, and then I thought, there are more ways to get AIDS than sex. Back then you could get it from tainted blood transfusions

I know Jermaine did a lot of backing vocals for Boy George and Culture Club around 1984/1985. I can clearly hear his voice in some of the old Culture Club 80s classics.
Came here to say the same thing. A lot of artists in the 80's wrote songs about how AIDS was so bad and they were touting celibacy for people to stay alive.
This was a huge huge hit when it came out. Also, fun fact he used to dance on soul train. There's a clip of him going down the soul train line with one of the regulars. Her name is Sharon Hill he had on blue jean pants. I believe a blue shirt and a very big afro May Jermaine Stewart Rest in Peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾
WOW! I haven't heard THIS in forever! The mid eighties were the days of the greatest dance music ever! You played this in a dance club, and EVERYBODY was out there jamming to this!
This was another club favorite, we danced to an extended version, lasted about 7 minutes. We had a routine and everything. Another club favorite was "Just Got Paid," by Johnny Kemp.🎉🎉🎉❤❤

This song has been redone by various artists, even some who've slowed the beat where you REALLY get the lyrics. Glad you two got to sample the original. RIP, Jermaine.
The great thing about this song is it got everybody moving young and old parents loved it because of the positive message and the beat got the younger crowd into it. @@NessieT The early days of the AIDS epidemic really brought out the worst cruelty within certain political factions...around the world. I have friends who survived but lost so many of their peers. I lost a teacher who was pivotal in my college career. The hatred these people were assaulted with was shameful. I'd hoped we'd never see that kind of treatment again yet, sadly here we are.

Made fun of him for what?? People can be cruel at times. I will remember his hit forever, it always makes me smile. A feel good song. Thank you Jermaine x
I remember that. It was so sad. Fast forward some 17 years later a fan paid for his gravestone marker. He now has one. May he rest in peace.
Didn’t know that about him… all I know is we loved his song and danced and partied all night!💕💕💕
@@NessieT- For being gay and fir having AIDS. People were HORRIBLY CRUEL to AIDS patients. People are cruel ... 😔
Always loved this song!!
Great choice, you guys are just on fire today! Another great tune from this era is "Oh Sheila," by Ready For The World.
The 80’s music unforgettable and great era. No swearing or weird stuff. Just good music and great memories. Miss It a whole lot. You should listen to Tender Love and Love Is a House from FORCE MD’S. Their voice sounds amazing!!👍
