    Your hair texture, which you refer to as 4b/4c, is one of the most magnificent hair types. Outside of RUclips, it is hard to find or see this type of hair in an extremely long and healthy state. As you stated in your video, this hair type can be very fragile. But, if one has understanding and knowledge, as you do, that fragility can be overcome. When this hair is accepted, embraced and loved, it flourishes beautifully. Congratulations on your progress! Wonderful tips and suggestions as well.

    Weaves do not agree with my hair either. I tried it once and my hair felt like straw on a sahara desert, never again. Wigs are perfect, it protects and allows you to check the moisture level of your hair.......GREAT TIP.

    I wash my hair almost everyday, meaning I style my hair OFTEN, and man is my hair growing. More so than when I was protective styling.
    What I'm trying to say is, just take care of your and it'll grow, like she said.

    • @edithwenepai2744
      @edithwenepai2744 7 лет назад

      rosedaline valetine Can I ask what else you do, product wise? I've used box braids as a protective styles and my hair just will. not. grow. I think the problem was I wasn't able to moisture it as much as my dry hair needs. I've been doing twist outs every three days and washing twice a week for the past month, and my hair is definitely healthier looking now. I just wanna know what else I could/should be doing.

  • @NitaVeee

    Braids work well for me with my 4b-c hair ! I actually oil the length of the braids where I know where my hair ends so my ends won't be dry. But I will def be getting a wig soon, thanks for the tip!

    You're so correct! I tried explaining this to my sister with 3c hair and she doesn't understand the trials and tribulations we as 4s go through with our hair. Also I wanted say my hair isn't at all fragile as some might assume. I believe moisture help maintain hairs strength.

  • @PurpleDiamondKing
    @PurpleDiamondKing 9 лет назад +9

    I completely agree with this. I love love wearing wigs coz I still get a chance to work with my own hair (moisturize, green house effect, water only method, deep condition etc). I just keep my hair in medium sized twists. I started noticing so much more length retention with this method!!

    Thank you for sharing, I wear braids and twists as protective styles, and as you mentioned I do soak them to get them moisturized, and it works for me. I worked at a wig shop for 8 years, so I am very familiar with wigs and have worn them as well, I just don't like how they look on me. As an African it is hard for me to let go of braids because they are also part of my heritage. Wig are good for a day, while I try to figure out what to do to my hair. Thank you for sharing.

    Great tips ! I agree with you, wigs are the best protective styles ever. I have managed to grow and retain 6 inches (sometimes even more) of length with them. I went from ear length to waist length within 3 years. :)

    Dephne thank you for the hair tutorial. My hair used to thrive on pure coconut oil. But I've been noticing a lot of shedding during my protective styles. I don't like or wear weaves, wigs or extension braids. (That is what broke off my daughter's hair at the crown.) So I'm just experimening with oils, leave in conditioners and water hydration. My hair despises constant manipulation but washing twice a week is impractical, drying and time consuming. Just trying to keep it simple, healthy and happy.

    Thanks for the video! I have worn weaves for years and it helped my hair grow a lot! I wear weaves because I work out intensely daily and overnight backpack in the mountains all seasons so it helps protect my hair from the elements. I learned how to moisturize my hair while in the weave but I'd like to get away from it. What I REALLY want to know is best FAST styles for natural long hair for people that work out and sweat ALOT! Any suggestions? Thank you God bless!

  • @curliefro
    @curliefro 9 лет назад

    You've got great retention for 5 years natural! My eureka moment was realizing not thoroughly or properly detangling my hair led to tangles and poor retention. Once I remedied that and continued protective styling (mini braids with no extension), I had retention.

  • @naturallyvirtuousyou509
    @naturallyvirtuousyou509 8 лет назад +1

    Osa, I L.O.VE your vids!!
    I've been wearing wigs since I big chopped. I have experienced great retention wearing wigs. I will two strand twist or coil my hair. These styles also help with retention. I have hand I hair syndrome so my wig blocks me from playing in my hair. I love the shrinkage with 4c hair and I love how thick my hair is.

  • @TheeSecondSon
    @TheeSecondSon 9 лет назад +2

    Great video ! Im a guy and I'm clearly not trying to wear a wig haha so I'm doing mini twist! I also moisturizer my hair daily. This Saturday will be 2 weeks with my twist in. My plan is to protective style all fall, re-doing my twist every 2-3 weeks. so we'll see how that goes lol.

Last time I did my length check, it was 19 inches mostly sll over with no breakage. I kerp it oiled and moist. This year, im going to try to wear my own hair 👍 now that i have the length that I have desired. Kerp ip the good work, womsn of God!

    I don't have 4b/4c hair but I do have multi-textured hair (3c/4a/4b curls) and it's hard for me to retain length. I stayed away from scissors because I wanted to now be on a hair growth journey (since I can't wear locs -_-). My hair used to be down my back but ever since I permed it and cut it to go back to natual it seems to not be growing. Out of the two years I've been natural (and even when I cut it) my hair still seems to stay at the same length it once was before. I think the problem is, is that I leave it out too much. Do you think the same tips you shared can work for my hair texture? And would you recommend wigs for girls who are 17 years young for hair retention? (I don't like sew ins even though they are pretty).

    hey there, I believe I have what people call 4c hair. I have a very short natural hair,I try doing protective style twist,I keep it In for a week wash and retwist. I get so embarrassed most time because the twist get smaller and smaller each day that you will not even put it a little 2 years old child. by the special grace of God,am a born again child of God.
    I cannot wear or put any hair that is not mine on my head,
    do you have ideas what kinds of protective styles I can do to grow out my hair?

      Hey dear I totally get what you mean. Do you not wear synthetic hair as well? You could try a hair bun or twists/3strand braids with your own hair tied in a bun for 1-2 weeks before washing and refreshing. Lastly you could do threading (check out my African threading video) then tie them in a bun as well at the back. These I found to be the best, Hope this helps! Xxxx

    What happened to your hair? The hair dye makes your hair look dry in the video. Were you trying to color your hair red or brown?

    I love wigs, however, I noticed 2 sections of my hair that seem to suffer when I wear them, that is the crown and the very back middle. I can't figure out why these areas break and become thin...any ideas??? Also, I need a good protective style for my 6 year old daughter. Her back is waist length but her hair is thin, any ideas there,??? You are a blessing!!!

      hi Stevia. My hair issues are in the exact same spot as yours! Doing WOHW and still figuring it out. Got 4b in the back and 4c at the front. I don't wear wigs but wear trendy headwraps with a slim scarf underneath. I think my problem is over manipulation and this is affecting my ends even though they are moisturised. I did a bentonite clay wash to clarify my hair and did an Aphoghee 2 step Protein Treatment and this really helped with the problem area. I will be doing one at least very 6-8 weeks and try to cut down with the manipulation. hth

      +Nadine Kazuba hi dear you could do like me in this video, tying it in a bun! i've found to be very effective. Or simply braiding your own hair in large braids every once a week after washing xx

    When you are wearing wigs - do you plait your hair underneath? If so do you wash it in the plaits/braids? If so pls share your regime. Thanks.

    If wearing wigs, how do you reduce the pain of the comb on your scalp? I always have this problem after I wear a wig due to the combs of it.

    • @kemiesther2971
      @kemiesther2971 9 лет назад +2

      +frederica Bediako How about you wear a wig cap (but the problem with that is it might take the moisture out of your hair sometimes) or you remove the combs and wear wig that have an adjustable elastic strap

    • @ericabedia8370
      @ericabedia8370 9 лет назад

      ohk that sounds very helpful :) Cause even when I wear the wig cap you still have to attach the combs to your hair which my scalp seems to absolutely hate haha So I might just have to find wigs which also come with an adjustable strap

    • @DatSmile1
      @DatSmile1 9 лет назад +1

      +frederica Bediako if the adjustable elastic strap isn't secure enough, you can always add a few bobby pins here and there to keep your wig secure- a great alternative to combs.

    • @ericabedia8370

      Ohh that is a really good idea. Thank you so much! :) I might have to find some wigs which aren't so expensive haha and look like my real 4c hair haha
