I was able to successfully replace the head gasket on my 07 civic because of your videos. You have helped me save a bunch of money that would otherwise have come from our holiday funds. Thank you very much.
Thank You so much for going the extra mile and keeping the camera close. You basically reassembled this engine with one hand while the other was holding the phone. That’s badass.
Just finishing up doing this job I’d like to say thank you for all the help and detail that went into this series it really really helped a lot 👍
I just wanna say THANK YOU for this video. I'm in the process of doing a head gasket and this video is the best step by step video out there. I'm just about to pull the head off. Thanks again!!!
Thank you very much! Your 3 videos showing disassembly and reassembly helped me correctly fix my car. I saved a good amount of money thanks to you!
Thanks for the great vid, very helpful. One thing, just in case anyone wants to know, replace the drive belt before the motor mount to save a little hassle. BTW, thanks for pointing out the two timing chain cover bolts that are different than the others, make sure to put those on first, they align the cover.
Saved my car with this video series. Thank you for doing these!
You did a really good job man, you got a passion thank you for video
Very straightforward and well put together
- video! I am amazed you did all that work with the firewall shroud on 😅
I’ve learned a lot since. I was straight out of college and not very experienced.
Don't do what I did and forget that little partition plate in the block, you may not even take it out but if you do DON"T forget it. It makes the coolant flow evenly through the head by creating a restriction.
muchas gracias amigo actualmente voy a bajar el motor para cambiar el monoblock ya que tira anticongelante porque esta dañado el monoblock y gracias a este video ya me di una idea de como hacerlo saludos de ciudad de mexico
Great video with many details.
Good job, although I would have included torque specs, the tensioner bolt is 40 ft/lbs, use a new Honda 10x55 bolt, (not 10x59) and blue thread lock...read the TSB. i'll post more later
Hey man I’m doing this job right now. Can you update me and explain what you mean by 10x55?
@@jaketomberlin8916 The part number is Honda 96700-10055-18, for the serp belt tensioner bolt. 10mm x 55mm. Honda had issues with this bolt coming loose. I went ahead and did the timing chain, pulled the oil pan and cleaned it out, almost an in block over haul. Check the motor mounts too, they also had issues. And of course the cracked blocks that were an issue. Honda has a TSB on that.
Muy buena la ayuda k ofrese este taller de servicio, social para los k no sabemos, gracias
Obrigado pelo seu canal aprendi muito👍🏾
Subscribed Bro, good video keep them coming man!
Great video! Keep it up!
Good job man appreciate the video
Eu do Brasil 🇧🇷 gostei super dica
Great job bro.
Nice very well done.
Great video!! Thanks
How many ft lbs should the crankshaft bolt be?
You the man I need on my 08 civic right now!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👎
Great job I would like to know
What’s the total cost ? labor and parts.
Thanks for the video 👍🏼
Thanks
R.I.P to my civic
Did you go back around and check the torque on the bolts after the first time around? The #1 was finger tight on mine by the time I got to the end.
Hey buddy... It awesome and will also fix my civic in future... Why dont you make a video on taking a ride after fixing cylinder head
That's a good suggestion.
Good job 👍
Damm u got it 👍👍👊
Very helpful vid. You only angled torqued it to 90 degrees once, was that for the sake of video length? Or would it need an additional 90+60 degrees more using new bolts?
What is the final torque for it not using degrees torque?
Any metal shavings from the head milling job? Or did the shop clean it for you?
***you dont want excess oil on the head bolts it can be bad if the oil collects at the bottom of the bolt when torquing
COMING FROM A 2000 CIVIC OWNER WWOOOWW I'M BLOWN WAY TO HOW MUCH PLASTIC WAS REPLACE FOR SO MUCH METAL ALUMINUM PARTS THEY USE TO MAKE
Thank you so much for these videos they have helped so much, I used the disassembly guide as well and they are so well done! If your reusing the old head bolts would you skip the final 60 degrees? I have put them all back in the way they come out just don't want to snap any 😬
Yup skip the last step
Thanks so much 👍
@@stevenpacey9020 These are TTY bolts, never re-use them, you are begging to do the job again.
@@vernonbosshard9317 thanks for the advice, was worried but luckily the old ones went back in ok. it's an old car and I'm not to fussed if dies. Will bare that in mind if I do the job again 👍
Just priced new head bolts, Honda parts now is $38,60 for 10 bolts,... rockauto, Victor Reinz and Mahle are around 56 a set. Go with Honda then.
Is there anyway to narrow it down to head gasket or cracked block? I have coolant in the oil, but no oil in the coolant, and it runs great except for when the coolant goes down and it then overheats.
Only real way would be a leak down test. But sounds like for sure it could be a head gasket. I know the cracked blocks usually happen in the same 4 locations.
Thanks for making these videos. Quick question; did you sand the block surface, or just clean it up really good?
It was resurfaced at a machine shop
What is that little black metal piece under the motor mount bolt for?
Anti- vibration weight
Why would the old timing chain get "locked" if you reuse it?
She was just messing around. There is a stretch limit. But I can't remember the specs . You are fine to reuse it. But when I worked at honda we never recommended reusing a chain and it was recommended to change it every 200k miles
Just finished the job but now getting crank but no start. When I turn my key to the on position the fuel pump doesn’t seem to prime or come on at all. Any ideas?
Forgot to plug it in
What is the average cost on a job like this?
What was wrong with the old head ?
Can you reuse the old front main seal
I mean it shouldnt be reused. but it's up to you. I wouldn't.
Do you have to replace the timing chain or is it optional? Also what rtv is the best to use?
You dont have to if it's not over the spec. Over time the chains stretch. You have to measure it to see if you can reuse it. But it's always best to change it
You can use black gasket maker, or permatex the right stuff. Or if you want what I used was one from the dealership honda brand
My timing belt slipped on my 91 Honda Civic mechanic said valves were bent. If I buy a rebuilt cylinder head from eBay. Would that fix the problem? Thanks 👍
I’ve had it where the piston has been scored up from hitting the valves and I’ve actually threw on a head and it worked fine. I’d say yes. Unless it looks way bad
@@laketownautorepair336 thanks 👍
Hey Bro! Thank you for this video. I made a comment a year ago that I was able to successfully replace the head gasket!
I was hoping you could point me in the right direction on my current issue.
Crank - No start - No error code.
Leading up to this I received some cylinder 2 misfire at startup. I would turn off the vehicle and restart and would not have any issues.
I have compression, ignition and gas.
I replaced the cylinder 2 spark plug and ignition coil. (I also replaced the MAF sensor. I cleaned that at one point, and it seemed to improve the misfires)
Any advice in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thanks again. You already helped me get another year out of my vehicle and I'm hoping you can do it again!
Have you done any valve lash adjustments? I bet that’s what’s going on
I’m re reading this and didn’t realize you stated the car wasn’t starting. Do you see a flashing key on the dash (possible key issue which is possible) also where did you get the maF sensor.? A lot of times working at a Honda dealer. if we suspected MAF sensor we would unplug it and the car would start as soon as we turned the key. Let me know.
Consider also did you change all the spark plugs ? Or just one? What brand did you use? Some good quality NGK plugs should be used. With ignition coils always use a good brand also. NGK, Denso and Bosch are decent. There is a lot of bad cheap Amazon/ebay parts floating around. Sometimes there are parts that look very similar to OEM but they aren’t. I just talked to my buddy who is still a Honda tech and he also said there is so many counterfeit parts he’s had to change out that look very similar to OEM.
Are these engines reliable? The r18
I'd say apart from the engine block cracking that they are reliable.
I'm putting everything together and my crank pulley isn't aligned with rest of the pulleys. It seems like it could go more in but it's not. What's wrong?
Did you make sure the black links line up correctly? Check to see if it goes in all the way in with the key insert out
@@laketownautorepair336 Which black lines?
Do I have to move that black shape inside the timing cover to line up with the crank pulley?
I got the crank pulley seated all the way in!
How did you do it?
How come nobody safety checks after fitting timing chain on these engines, like the full rotations to make sure stays in time
I never met anyone that didn’t. Just wasn’t filmed.
@@laketownautorepair336what does he mean by safety check?
It means to rotate the engine 2-3 times or more to make sure the timing marks still like up when you get back to top dead center
Why are you changing the cylinder head?
Bad head gasket. I just resurfaces the head I didn't change it
How much was it to resurface the cylinder head?
$50.
Size adjust in ex sir
2 yrs now, my civic still runs great. This engine was worked on by idiots, I found loose bolts, dodgy work all over it,
I don't think you're supposed to be oiling up those bolts. That's going to make your torque wrench inaccurate (tho it looks like you may have used degrees rather than a torque wrench so the above comment probably doesn't apply, other than to say I don't think it's necessary)
Using old O rings and timing chain tensioner made me cringe as to why go through with this major work for
