@@Gatorade69 I most often hear it used to refer to like, the big cuffs chained to the wall or ground that you'd see in a medieval dungeon or some such.
I like how one of Colonel Abdullah's crimes is literally genocide, but his bounty only higher than the first guy who stole the military vehicle and lower than the woman who stole Japan's treasures, and by extension the other bosses.
“The 3D revolution happened too early, we should have had technology stop on super scaling for a couple years and really explore and expand on it…” PREACH MY BROTHER! Super scaler games feel more thrilling and three-dimensional to me than any modern photo-realistic racer. As far as I’m concerned, graphics hit their peak when Power Drift’s roller coaster feel and furiously fast tracks came out.
"Das Ende" is the cherry on top of this incredibly experience. I don't think I've seen any media outside of germany use a german "the end". for exotic Flair maybe?
I agree, they went all in on the 3D tech way too early. A lot of games from those early 3D days did not stand the test of time at all. Yet, there are a ton of 2D games from multiple generations that still hold up great to this day.
Wait a minute. Burn and Keith. Noooo way. The main character names in Psychic Force are a reference to this! ...or it's just a grand coincidence that another Taito game features a significant Burn and Keith duo. You never really know these days, eh?
Taito is still in business...but they're owned by Square Enix now. They said something about "making new console games in the future" a few years ago, but I don't know if anything actually materialized.
Someone else already mentioned it, but Square Enix currently owns Taito. For a game like Riding Fight to get an update, either as a rerelease/remaster or through a sequel, they'd have to basically get their heads out of their asses first with the way they're currently doing business.
Holy heck, this looks AMAZING! How have I never heard of this game until now? It looks like the coolest thing to both a little young Tenyoken, and a Adult Tenyoken!
There's one very late 1995 super scaler F1 racer from Capcom called Slipstream which really pushes the 2D tech. It seems to have been exclusive for the South American market, and oddly enough it was a Capcom game developed for Sega's System 32 arcade hardware.
The moving around the bottom of the screen while the world scrolls along thing brought back memories to the GI Joe arcade game that I only ever got to play once as a wee lass
Glad this game is getting some more love these days. The Taito F3 (the hardware this runs on) is full of bangers! Riding Fight, Darius Gaiden, RayForce, Kaiser Knuckle and Dan-Ku-Ga, Puchi Karat (try this one, Matt), more Bubbles than you can ever hope to Bobble. ;)
Have you ever played "The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy"? It's a janky arcade game, but I loved playing the heck out of it as a kid. Being an Indiana Jones fan, it was so awesome for me to see this guy with a whip just beating the crap out of "Nazis" and their biomechanical dieselpunk machines. Apparently Even inspired Treasure staff to make Gunstar Heroes!
3:46 I love the reasoning behind beating up that poor man, plus innocent tank, was to steal his lunch and the orphanage's medicine he was delivering. 🤣
Was the Star Wars vehicle game that Matt was thinking about "Star Wars Episode 1: Podracer"? Because that's the only game I can think of, but it was for the N64 (and maybe PS1).
Have you ever played Beast Busters? It's a weird first-person shooter full of zombies and mutants and might have a post-apocalyptic theme. It has lots of bizarre enemies and bosses.
If there are two arcade games I'd really like you to cover, it would be Space Gun (Also made by Taito) & Crossed Swords (think punch out but with swords =P )
Yea, played and beat this game on mame maybe 8 or so years ago. Tried to spread the word on it as Road Rash on Hover Boards but Wayyy better and nobody cared.
This is one of the best arcade games I've never seen before, Absolutely, this needs to be ported into modern platforms like Steam, I'd buy this for $20,
Hey, Matt McMuscles. I have a couple of suggested arcade titles you should play in future videos. Suggestions: Ninja Commando (Neo Geo MVS) SegaSonic the Hedgehog Virtua Cop (original) Metal Slug (original) Fighting Vipers X-Men: Children of the Atom (Arcade) Turbo OutRun Lethal Enforcers Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Arcade) Sonic Championship (known as Sonic the Fighters in Japan) What do you think? I hope you should play any of these games.
So I know this is a long shot, but I do have a recommendation from 2020 when this gem got swept under the rug by am amazing game called Hades. The most non-Metal Gear-Metal Gear game called UnMetal.
Absolutely agreed about superscalar graphics never getting their shot. The fact that people actually *liked* the look of stuff like the original Virtua Fighter or Quake baffled me then and does to this day. We could've had an incredible 5th generation with superscalar tech. We got hints of how incredible it could have looked with games like Symphony of the Night, Valkyrie Profile, Marvel vs Capcom, etc., but it never got properly explored. 3D wasn't really ready to look good until the 6th generation, although a handful of late PS1 games at least don't look *terrible*.
Yeah, this title looks great with super scaling 2d (not all of them are good see some of the Saturn's lineup), and maybe the 3d revolution was early, but we wouldn't have had any classics as well, both styles and methods should co-exist. Think of 3d games at this era like this, they're akin to the stuff from the 70s and early 80s like commodore and Atari stuff before things advanced further for 2d graphics in the same vein with 3d progressing further with powerful machines.
Every single wanted poster ever: Dead or Alive.
Taito translators: THIS MAN SHOULD BE MANACLED OR PUNISHED!
TIL what the hell a manacle was. Figured it was some typical Taito Engrish.
@@Gatorade69 I most often hear it used to refer to like, the big cuffs chained to the wall or ground that you'd see in a medieval dungeon or some such.
This is like if Taito took the concept of Neon Night Riders from the SNES version of Turtles in Time and made an entire game out of it. Neat.
Man, the amount of media that Fist of the North Star inspired is staggering. Wonder what other hidden gems are out there.
it is an absolute crime that this game never became as world-famous as it deserves to be. what a gorgeous hidden gem this was.
"There's no ladies watching." Yes, we are, Matt.

This is unreal and feels like every side scrolling beatemup game should have stages with this type of stuff too

How did this not get a spiritual sucessor? This was what crowdfunding was made for.
Agree. I don't mind some indie game companies taking the role of spiritual successor for this game.

Sadly, some of the text for this game is in Portugese.

That tight Taito ass joke never gets old 😂

"Video-game-ass video game."
Never heard of this game until today. Glorious stuff, thanks for sharing!
I've seen another streamer play this. It is nuts. A very unique take on the beat em up genre.
These guys look like Fist of the North Star but radical to the max.
Now I'm left with this empty feeling of what other absolutely cool hidden gems like this I missed back in the day
good gravy, this is flippin' RAD.
edit: i wrote this comment before seeing 'gravy day' haha!
Man so many of these old arcade games just had some of the most wild ideas and presentation. Like how do you even come up with this?? 🤣

Let's ask Taito and Hamster (the Arcade Archives dudes) to bring this to consoles via the Arcade Archives series, pronto!
Couldn't Agree More! This Looks Sick! 100% :) Here Take My Money!
This came out in 1992? This game looks unreal!
A gravy day indeed.
Every time I tune in to the Flophouse I discover another banger!
Thanks for always being awesome 😎
Your thinking of Ronin Warriors character Lady Kayura. She took over as major antagonist after Anubis defected and took over for the Ancient One.
How about Cadillacs and Dinosaurs? The arcade game. Not the Sega CD one.
Yeah. Definitely the Arcade version of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs from Capcom.
Double dragon on hover boards with terrible translation!? Sign me up buddy!
Was the Star Wars vehicle game that Matt was thinking about "Star Wars Episode 1: Podracer"? Because that's the only game I can think of, but it was for the N64 (and maybe PS1).

@ 15:50, you're talking about Episode 1 Pod racing game, aren't you?
Star wars Clone wars was the game with the vehicles i also remember sections where you could get out on foot and fight with the lightsaber
Loved Ronin Warriors, watched it a ton on Cartoon Network back in the day!
The lady boss might have more to her than meets the eye... it said to bring this MAN in.... YOOOO the final boss is Melon bread from Gunstar heroes!
Bravoo Man, not Melon Bread.

have you done A.B. Cop, same kinda thing but on a hovering jet bike like PlayStation's Jet MOTO series! i always emu it!
This is one of the best arcade games I've never seen before,
Absolutely, this needs to be ported into modern platforms like Steam, I'd buy this for $20,
THANK YOU FOR THE RUNNING MAN SHOUT OUT LOL
Transition to 3d was definitely too fast, most of the 2d games still hold up compared to the early 3d era

Suggestions:
Ninja Commando (Neo Geo MVS)
SegaSonic the Hedgehog
Virtua Cop (original)
Metal Slug (original)
Fighting Vipers
X-Men: Children of the Atom (Arcade)
Turbo OutRun
Lethal Enforcers
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Arcade)
Sonic Championship (known as Sonic the Fighters in Japan)
What do you think? I hope you should play any of these games.
15:37 was it Super Bombad Racing?
So I know this is a long shot, but I do have a recommendation from 2020 when this gem got swept under the rug by am amazing game called Hades. The most non-Metal Gear-Metal Gear game called UnMetal.
Matt McMuscles, you should definitely do a playthrough of Chase H.Q. for the Arcade, which is also developed by Taito! Pretty please?
Ah man this is the perfect game to rerelease for 3DS
anyone remember the beat em up on genesis where Satan makes you eat his lunch? This game has a similar translation comedy to it
So this is everything Sonic Riders should've been.

I feel like the only way to play this game is to wear a backwards baseball cap with shades while doing so.
Can we get a Wha Happun for the Chinatown Wars video that was mysteriously disappeared?
Mentioned Star Wars game sounds like "Star Wars Demolition".
Try Mystic Warriors.
It's Sunset Riders with ninjas.
Sonic Riders should have been more like this.
Am I the only one who thought the thumbnail art was of Matt's avatar as Maggott from the X-Men?
RAD/10
wonder if matt would like skitchin' on the megadrive? i loved that game when i was a kid
Please play Robot Alchemic Drive
Thought this was gonna be radical heights for a second
I think the Star Wars reference had to do with the pod racing game a bit.
Oh man, you really should check out The First Funky Fighter!
Yeah, this title looks great with super scaling 2d (not all of them are good see some of the Saturn's lineup), and maybe the 3d revolution was early, but we wouldn't have had any classics as well, both styles and methods should co-exist.

OH MY GOD THEY HAVE THE SAME NAMES AS THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF PSYCHIC FORCE!
.... THAT WAS ALSO MADE BY TAITO!
wow this so fun
Burn, Keith, taito, the future. Has this something to do with the Psychic Force series?
Burn and Keith from Psychic Force?
Wait... the chinatown wars upload was a mistake? goddammit, I wanted to watch that one.
The Star Wars game you were thinking was actually just called Star wars the clone wars.
Might have been Episode 1: Racer which was on the N64.
@@greymin2158 considering the game being played you're the one correct. I'm glad I got to play racer in a arcade once.
Dude you should scope out Champion Wrestler it's by Taito and there's a guy called Nitro Panks
so they made a whole game out of neon night riders, that's cool i guess lol
is this game impossible to get on console?
Yes
PS Ronin Warriors is HYPE!!
15:49 Battle Front One and Two!
This game’s pace gave me a panic attack.
Star Wars podracer
It feels like they weirdly stole 90% of their character design from Fist pf the North Star for some reason.
Matty fatty
Play Haunted Castle
That's like the least exciting version of the first Castlevania that's not a straight port of the NES one. The only good thing about it is the music.
Nah it sucked dude
???
The first boss was going to jail. Those were cops, and you get decent health care once you're in custody.
