- This is a typical evening when I get home from work or a trip. Todd is extremely loving and caring towards me asking for Cuddles, Brushes, Kisses, and some play.
Todd is a 6-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 48 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. Given the context that you're returning from an absence, Todd's pressing the buttons he does coupled with his corroborating body language leave no doubt: Todd is talking. He is literally asking for affection. Todd's very obvious love for you (and yours for him) is so touching and sweet. I'm bonded to my cat and I wouldn't trade our relationship for 100 billion dollars.

Todd is close to figuring out world peace. If only humans could be as welcoming and happy to see each other after a day’s work, we would be in great shape. Now if Todd would continue to be kind to Paulie, we are all happy.

I find it adorable that he tries to give you gifts when he wants his food bowl refilled. It's also nice that you still check on whether he actually wants something later by offering it at the moment, many times tho he does mean what he say.

That is so sweet. 😊 There are 3 or four cats that like to watch Todd videos. Their humans have sent me pictures and videos of them watching intently and trying to touch Todd.
my first cat I got when I moved out on my own, loved to play fetch with Q-tips, she would dig them out of the bathroom garbage can, and bring them to me. Sometimes I would wake up in the morning with half a dozen Q-tips on the bed around me, and her sitting there waiting for me to wake up and pick one to throw for her lol.
Yes, we had to move them out of reach, he would go and help himself all the time. Now it's when he finds one in the garbage, like yours did. 😊

I think where humans put Q-tips mean they have lots of lovely smells that mean "this is me".
My cats loved them as well but I stopped letting them have them last year after seeing a video where a creator (can't remember who) lost one of her kitties. The cotton on the end got stretched out while it was being played with & it got into the kitties throat. Just telling you guys too so you know to either always watch them with it or take them away all together.

Todd has to be one of the most adorable cats. So loving and cute. How wonderful that we get to know what he's thinking, and how it always seems to sync up with his actions, he almost certainly knows what he is saying. Like "later play", he didn't want to play now Dad! Fascinatingly amazing.

Yeah, people who say cats can't use buttons to talk I think what they're trying to say is cats will never have complex language like humans, but cats do communicate, can learn words and can get some very basic language.

Using 4 or even 5 word sentences that kinda follow human grammar, when this is not just a foreign language but that of a different species, is remarkable enough, at least for me. As a human language professional (foreign language teaching, transIation, and sociolinguistic aspects of multi-lingualism such as childhood vs adult learning, natural (family & other daily life settings) vs educational (required or for interest) multi-lingualism, first language attrition and code-switching) I see pretty complex use of language in many of these button pets.

I thought Todd was going to hit 'mad' when he abruptly walked away from pets when Glamour got some too. But he proved to be smarter than me; rather than tell you his feelings he perfectly manipulated a 'jingle ball' game to get you off the floor and away from Glamour instead. He certainly keeps you hopping....lol ♥♥

Is Paulie more of a mummy’s boy? Are Todd and Paulie getting along any better? Todd is so happy to see you, it’s like he’s asking for everything he missed while you were away and so he can have dad all to himself.
Paulie is bonded to Mom. Glamour and Todd are bonded to Dad. Todd and Paulie are doing much better, either the last video or the one before it has Todd asking for a toy for Paulie.

Are your cats always so calm and thoughtful in their behaviours and communication? If so, your voice must have something to do with it. It is very soothing and pleasing to the ear and your environment.

I love how he pushed want multiple times to make it clear that was the button he meant to press! So cute how he reacted when he pressed “what.” I forget, does Todd have an “oops” button yet?
No Todd does not have an Oops button, his reactions tell me when he makes a mistake. He will probably get one at some point.

Precious 💕😻 I've always enjoyed the individual ways different cats greet me. Percy meowed, "Hello" clear as day. Only for me, though, even though he was my son's cat. I used to say that to him when I walked in the door, and one day he said it back 😹 Quite some time later my son was there to hear it, and he was astounded 😹 But Percy gave my son his best greeting, of course, because it was my son who saved his life. And now I have Ombre greeting me at the door demanding to be picked up so he can wrap his paws around my neck as he kisses my cheek. Then he uses one paw to grab my other cheek and turn my face so he can give me kisses on my nose 😹 He's definitely grateful to be off the streets and healthy. Meanwhile, Ginger just sits there looking at us, then he walks to his food dish to wait for me to get the hint 😹 Yeah, I know he's grateful too. We're working on that bonding thing. Ginger doesn't like to cuddle much. He's the type that will stay close as long as I don't touch him, unless he specifically asks for it. But we have been doing some head bumps here and there, so he's warming up to me ❤

A cat that actually wants, asks for kisses?! Be still my beating heart! 😘😽 Actually, earlier today I was giving a few kisses on the head to an outdoor cat, Miss Kitty, who belongs to a customer of mine (I have a lawn mowing business). Miss Kitty seemed to like it, or at least tolerate it. LOL. She is a sweetie.

It's so interesting for cats to have a concept of wanting something later. Between Todd and Billi, i have seen a cat request something for later many, many times. And every time that Mom or Dad says "yes, you can have X later. You can have X now if you want!" the kitty in question does not want X now. (Thats my recollection at least.) But they do know that X is something that they will want. Later. 😊
Particularly, Billi's offended recoil when she asked for "catnip later" and Kendra offered "catnip now". 😾

@NineLivesburra No, I did find two similar ones but have tried them with Todd on camera awhile ago, they were Orbs of Sadness. There may be some Jingle Ball news very soon!

@NineLivesburra it is possible but I don't think so. I the box of old cat toys there were four Jingle balls all together, he looked through the box and picked that one and wants nothing to do with the others.
I love that you call it floor time. And I love that he can ask for floor time when he wants to.
I try to do "Floor Time" at least once a day if not more. I think it is important to get down on their level and interact with them and not just always bending.

Not really. She wants to be near me but she does not want to be held or cuddled. She likes me to play with her and toys and she likes to be brushed. She will sit next to me on the couch and let me pet her and she is happy. She also comes in every night when I go to bed and makes biscuits on me then leaves. Everything though is on her terms, but I know she loves me dearly and I love her too.

Nothing worked on the Orbs of Sadness. We will see as I have received what should be two True Jingle Balls from his fans. I will unbox them and offer them to Todd so we will see!

@deborahemielita5949 when Glamourbwas young, she would leave me her toys on the floor by my side of the bed for when I woke up in the morning. I would often wake up to her toy mouse and a cricket or bug she found in the house. I can't remember what she was mad at but she was mad about something and I woke up to her mouse and a single cat turd 😂

My talking cat, Shamu (a tux cat) also wakes me in the night sometimes by sticking his paw in my neck, and then he wants under the covers or to snuggle next to me and kneed the bedding. Hard to Turn him down! They’re up and think we should be too! I don’t mind as they purr and I get back to sleep ok! What characters cats are, go to love it.

She has been walking to them more lately. I continue to offer it to her but she is not interested. I may try giving her and Paulie their own pads and starter button again and see if that would help. All the buttons at this point may be overwhelming.
I saw a package of five balls at Pet Smart. One was the right colors, but the design of the lattice is different. The bell is white.

Gloamour likes to be around and watch Dad but is not a big fan of being touched and them only when she gives permission. You do not puck her up, she hates it, and heaven help you if you touch her belly. Lol

About all the orbs of sadness: I wonder if the quality of the sound maker inside is a factor and not just the colors and quality of the plastic exterior. He sniffs for plastic and/or maybe metal bell. Have you tried different bells in the duds?
I have not, as I would have to break the ball to get the bell out, and there would be a hole big enough for it to fall out.
He loves his daddy and he's a very smart kitty. May I ask what the large white arrows represent?
That is letting you know when the video is being fast forwarded. I like to show that everything he does is real and not spliced together so if he takes several minutes to eat or get brushed etc. I fast forward. If not the videos might be 20 minutes long, lol.
I love this video, i love them all, actually. We can see the dynamics between the cats grow and change over time so thank you for making the videos.
I am curious though. Do you ever change button positions to see what Todd would do if a button didn't make the sound he would be expecting. This occurred to me after watching Jackson Galaxy's video on the buttons etc. I'm just curious about what the result would be.
Also, maybe the starter pad would help Glamour. She seems to like her own things, basket, brush, toys etc.
I would never relocate any of Todd's buttons. These are very important to him. I think that would confuse him and upset him greatly. Watch the video in the link I provided. One time a button somehow reset to factory default and when he pressed it it was a British lady explaining how to program the buttons started talking. Todd immediately got upset, confused, and concerned and was crying at me to hurry and fix it while I was working on it. I see the logic in keeping them the same & if Todd got upset about that button not saying what he expected, it shows he knows exactly what those buttons mean and is therefore communicating with you. Do Pauli and Glamour not feel left out because of the attention showered on Todd? I love cats and feel for them. Todd is amazing , but so are the others.
Throughout the day, all the cats get equal time, love, attention, and treats. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The channel is The Chronicles of Todd and is focused on him.
Poor Glamour feels left out....how do the two of them behave towards your wife? I Glamour more of a mamas girl? How does Todd cope without his buttons to tell mom what he wants? Is he more vocal towards your wife? Someone stole a q-tip? Fresh or out of the garbage can?
Todd and Glamour are bonded to me, Paulie is bonded o my wife. Todd uses his meows and body language with both of us when he is away from his buttons. The Q-tip is stolen from the garbage, we had to put them up because he was taking them from the box and they were everywhere. Lol

So your wife has her own cat, and is the go to for Glamour and Todd when you are away.
And Todd interacts differently when he is out of reach of his buttons.
Does he go upstairs to his buttons sometimes when he can not convey his ideas/needs without them?
@RealMash Todd loves his buttons. When I am away he often sleeps next to them.

Yes, he uses the board whenever I am upstairs. Todd does not use the board when I am not near it with the exception of when he saw his favorite toy get stepped on and crushed (he has another on), It upset him and he was by himself upstairs looking sad and said Ouch and touched the Jingle Ball button which was the toy I stepped on.
I like the idea of trying to communicate with Todd, but why does he have to ask for his toys? You’re gone all day and cats get bored. Leave his toys out for him to play.
All the toys he has to ask for are toys that require me to turn them on or interact with him. All of the toys, other than his Jingle Ball are available for him and the others to play with.
